Sorry but this crew were NEVER that ill! Yes I know I’mma catch some flack but hear me out first!
DMX’s skills were ai-ite, it was his attitude that got him over. The Lox are ill as fuck, Period, but they were never consistent in terms of album quality. Eve was a really good mc but a lil’ too poppy for my tastes & her music was waaay too overproduced. Everybody else…. Hangers on & whatever but they shouldn’t be remembered for anything more than being part of a crew.
In terms of Swizz… It’s very hard to big this dude up in terms of what he did back then BECAUSE the facts are that the majority of his production sounds were ALL stolen from the Triton keyboard. They were not innovative or really memorable. Timbaland used keyboard sounds as well but HE ACTUALLY MADE THE MUSIC. THE SOUNDS THAT SWIZZ USED WERE ACTUALLY BUILT IN MELODIES FROM THE KEYBOARD! THAT’S NOT how you are supposed to produce, especially in the 90′s era! I respect his stuff since & of course I respect him as a businessman & someone who’s trying to uplift Hip Hop.
