See, what folks don’t realize is that 50, love him or hate him, has an old school ethic about 1) thuggery, 2) confrontation AND 3) music. On a musical level, I haven’t really messed with 50 since chinatown bootlegs of “Guess Who’s Back” and “Power of the Dollar”. But I have always appreciated the fact that he’s so possessive/proprietary about his position in rap music, pop culture, etc. Simply put, he’s not gonna let ANYBODY remove him from the position that he’s literally spilled his own blood to attain.

An old school philosophy, for sure. Slightly sociopathic?? Of course. Still, understandable from an old school head.

See, my (and the bulk of my 30+ year old friends’) take on newer artists is similar to my (and our) respective takes on newer “thugs”. Now, artists have a “story” because it’s cool to have a story–not because they had no other alternatives and were forced into struggling and hustling to survive. A compelling backstory, instead, becomes mere fodder for record sales. And that’s an insult to cats with actual stories that really didn’t want the stories. Those war stories represent a bad time in their lives.

It’s similar to much of today’s thuggery–absent is the Reaganomics of the 80s that caused actual desperation (although times ARE, in fairness, starting to economically more depressed again). Instead, you have kids wearing red and blue bandanas as fashion statements–kids catching a felony because they wanna be able to say that they’re felons, and places (no shit!!) where folks actually PAY for someone to shoot them in a controlled setting.

Thuggery has become high fashion. And we old school heads, like 50, says “f*** that.” You’re not gonna cash in on our tragedy.

So he confronts, in an old school fashion, but using new technology. Like KRS did to PM Dawn. Like King Sun did to Ice Cube. Like LL did to Kool Moe Dee.

I love it.

What’s offensive is that people (on-air personalities, writers, DJs, “CREDIBLE” bloggers, etc.) with a platform to reach more than just the industry exec or intern use these platforms to continue to exacerbate these mindless beefs. At what point do you Ms. Info or anyone else out there opt to focus on other issues in the music community? What’s even more saddening is the fact that if either one of these fools get killed then reports get made and condolences offered, but everyone in media acts none the wiser. It’s beyond tired.

Even more disheartening is the fact that people, the consumers, want to here what these ass clowns have to say about one another. The biz is now based who can huff and puff the most in the digital space and less about heating up the physical studio space with ridiculous levels of creativity.

How come no one (meaning journalists) comments on the fact that these f*ckas aren’t putting out classic material? Rick Ross, fam? Dude is a fraud (albeit w/ skills) and it pains me to see that Fif is going at dude like there is no tomorrow. For what? How much money do you possess, fam? Get over it.

When it’s all said and done, Fif and Ross better put out a classic album from intro to album cover b/c if not, then it’s clear that they spent too much time focusing on playing “my d*ck is bigger than yours.”

Gentlemen, man up and settle the issues and make music for the sake of making music. Otherwise, stfu and go spend your $$$ in peace.
