Thanks to DJ Khaled and JayOne for sending over this behind-the-scenes video of Mavado, Ace Hood and Khaled in the studio, playing their new collaboration, “Emergency.”
Mavado and Khaled checked in with The Angie Martinez Show on Hot97 to announce that Mavado is the newest member of Khaled’s We the Best Music Group. And Funk Flex debuted Mavado and Ace Hood’s song, “Emergency” on Hot97. Mavado recently reclaimed his right to travel to the U.S. after his passport was revoked in 2010 and will be performing at the Hot97 On the Reggae Tip Live concert tomorrow night in New York City. That’s always a wild time.

I’ll start by saying that I was born in St. Vincent and moved up here when I was 7. Why do you feel the need to write this way? Even if you are the most west Indian of west Indian people, you still have no reason to write like this. They teach us how to spell in the islands. Doesn’t it take way more effort to write this way anyway than if you were to write properly?? Its not cool. You’re embarrassing yourself and in a way, all west Indians. SMH

Happy for Mavado , he deserves a bigger platform for his music hes put in alot of work. Gotta respect DJ Khaled on this one. I miss this type of reggea in the mainstream. He has a real nostalgic 90′s reggae flow still youthful enough to keep it relevant.

I don’t see this deal any different from the last, except he’ll be on all of Khaled’s/ Ace Hood’s hooks from now on.
Wish him the best though.

Khaled knows reggae. I remember hearing him come up to NY radio stations with dubplates like in 01 02.
I just hope he dont have Mavado just singing hooks for Ross and Ace Hood all the time. There is too much hip hop influence in dancehall already.
I grew up on dancehall and hip hop simultaneously. Even though both genres have the same roots they dont always clash well. At the same time this can work, i can see Mavado being the next Nate Dogg, on everybody’s hooks getting that US$.
