Mary J. Blige took a break from her “King and Queen of Hearts World Tour” with Maxwell to pay a visit to Good Morning America on Wednesday (Nov. 16). The R&B Queen took to the indoor stage to perform her emotional new single “Thick Of It,” a song that touches on her divorce from ex-husband Kendu Isaacs. MJB would later sit with Robin Roberts to open up about the divorce, after being married to Issacs for 12 years.
“My heart is Ok. I’m hanging in there,” said Mary. “No one wants to go through this. This is hard. I’m hanging in there.” She would later explain to Roberts what was her breaking point in the long relationship. “The breaking point was when I kept asking over and over and over again for respect and to be respected and it just seems like I was beating a dead horse and it seems like I was talking to a wall. I just wasn’t getting it back. If I can’t get respect in the relationship, then I have to move on to save myself. That was the point where I’m like, I’m done. I just can’t do it any more.”
Mary would go on to share advice for women on how to protect their money and themselves, and her tour with Maxwell serving as therapy. The legendary singer’s new album, Strength of a Woman, is due later this year.
