Drake and University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari have developed a tight relationship in recent years, with Calipari serving as a mentor to the Canadian superstar. The face of OVO has credited the Hall of Fame coach for inspiring him to go back and finish high school, as Coach Cal attended his graduation in late 2012. Along with attended various UK games and events, Drake received a championship ring in celebration of the Wildcats’ 2012 national title and Calipari appeared at Drizzy’s 7th annual OVO Fest last August.

Drake, who is now known to shy away from the media, sits down with his mentor for a rare one-on-one interview. Appearing on the “Cal Cast” podcast, Drake speaks on his start as an actor, a bad audition experience shaping his attitude and professionalism, why Coach Cal is a mentor in his eyes, staying connected to UK players like John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins, the extreme limits he goes to finishing up an album, Sade being the ultimate collaboration and barely missing her “Moon and the Sky” remix, wanting to be remembered as an emotion evoking artist, getting back into acting after More Life drops, producing and hosting the 1st annual NBA Awards this year, his love for basketball and sports in general, his favorite UK players, the role his mother has played in life to this point and much more.
