Lil’ Wayne Sings His Heart Out On “How To Love” (UPDATE: Artwork & Mastered Version)
Posted by Mikey Fresh under new music[70] Comments
New Music: Lil’ Wayne – “How To Love” (Prod. by Detail)
Mikey: You can call me a hater but I just can’t do this. If say The-Dream sang this, or even Beyonce then maybe but this Backstreet Boys sounding track ain’t working for me with Weezy at the wheel. I love Tune’s music but I’ll pass on this. Man, I know I’m going to be hearing this on radio, all summer long. They say this is the 3rd single from Tha Carter IV. UPDATE: The official artwork and mastered version are now added, thanks to NavJosh/HHNM

If 50 Cent would have pulled this shit it would be WW6 on the internets!!
This crazy!!
Not hating the song or even his attempt at auto-tune singing just a little perplexed at what critics decide to accept from who and when!! Good for the kid!!! Sometimes a nigga just want to sing about some shit on his chest fuck if R&B dudes can get pissed and start rapping why cant rappers get soft and start doing songs? I feel very sorry for 808′s & Carter 5 Breaks!
Just sayin

Well, this is weak, not even a good radio song. U cant play this in a club or noothing, John also wasn’t good and 6 foot 7 ahh good try..But he tried to hard like 50 with candy shop versus amusement park 2 repeat that candy shop success.
Wayne come on start doing some real songs with real producers and artists..something new like a milli was back then

wayne did his thing on this track tho, this song wont click with “hip hop” fans right away but pop fans will embrace it….then hip hop fans will too soon after.
folks hung 50 by the balls when he did candy shop or the joint with justin tim because the people bought more into 50 the tough gangster persona than his music. but as far as wayne goes, he has a “safe” persona so he cant lose regardless of what type of music he makes

….dunno how to feel about this Weezy joint, i wanna go on a ‘witch-hunt’ with this one but i’ ll go out on a limb and say the song is a straight billboard battle contestant against anything Beyonce-not for it being a good rap song but it has everything thats comprised of a ‘PoP record’ and not a rap record that went PoP,(yes!! theres a difference). With a great video, this should warrant us to get someone popcorn(i hate popcorn but who cares!) and watch how this turns out. The Hip-hop fiend in me hopes this doesnt slowly tarnish his rap credibility, we saw Nelly take this route(Remember him?), yo this is the music industry, anything can happen..i mean Lil’ B exists right?!! Not my cup of tea though from a so called ‘Street Rapper’.

yo i wanna kno who wrote that song … PLEASE REVEAL THIS because Prom queen was written by the lady on young money with the ring in her nose…. BUT I HAVE TO SAY this song is amazing… like this is a great song to have on an album to show balance and give it some real life.. and not just like a mixtape full of freestyles with no meaning… like i imagine the album being full of different feelings and vibes and thats a classic album that can take you every where… and his vocals are perfect for him and the fans and the vision on the song not to much not to little just Wayne… he is really suprising me as an artist with this joint right here…

I agree with you, Carter III was a classic in my eyes because of the diversity, I mean look at ‘Comfortable’ and ‘Playing with Fire’ then look at ‘Nothing on me’ the difference in tracks is what gives an artist true credibility imo. I gotta feeling Wayne bout’ to drop a(nother) classic

There’s only 2 R&B dudes that couldve done it and thats Lloyd and Rayza.
and it also sounds like Nicki!!
I admit the song Pops. You just think of Cheezy faces and a whole lotta smilin’.

What’s the fucking deal with Lil Wayne? Listen to ATCQ, Madvillain, Wu-Tang…shit is unoriginal and a poor excuse for poetry. Even better R&B tracks out there too…better southern rappers too. Big K.R.I.T. anyone? Come on lol

This song is cool. Actually, a pretty cool take on his version of singing/rapping. Maybe I’m not supposed to like it, but I like the fact that he is doing something different and taking rap in a different direction. Releasing this as a single is a big risk, but I think it will pay off. I applaud this guy for being an artist that makes music just for what it is. Creatively, Wayne is in such a different place than when I first heard him in ’99. But i like it. He keeps reinventing himself.

Why do you feel you’re not supposed to like it? Is there a hip hop handbook floating around that I’m not aware of?:)
In any case, it’s refreshing to know that you can appreciate an artist’s catalog.

I actually like this song and I’m not a fan of Wayne at all! Around The Carter 2 when people started calling him the best rapper alive, I got left behind scratching my head with mean bbm confused face.
That being said, this is pretty much a Drake/Nicki track. Can’t you picture one of them singing it?

This is actually a nice song. I’m giving Mikey the side eye saying that he would have liked it more if Dream sang this. LOL! I’ll pass on that one! One doesn’t have to live, breathe and sleep only hip hop. IMO this is no different from Andre doing his ‘Love Below’ album. The truth is sometimes you get bored with hip hop’s monotony and need to listen to something else. As long as its genuine, I’m not knocking it. For the men who feel that he’s turned his back on hip hop, this song isn’t for you. But you’ll probably be nodding your head in the privacy of your own home where no other men can see you. You’ll be a closet supporter;)

This is actually a very nice song. Very airy and summer-like. I’m not a die hard Lil’ Wayne fan at all, but most people sound like they don’t like the song BECAUSE it’s a Lil’ Wayne song. I’m sure if it was anyone else, say Drake, for example,it would be totally acceptable. This goes with my theory of what fans will and will not accept from an artist, regardless if it’s good or not. I’m listening to the song without judgment…not the artist singing the song. Just go off first instinct.

My point exactly. If this isn’t you’re speed, then it’s not your speed. Be honest with yourself about what you like, more importantly, what you don’t like, and you’ll know when something is not for you.

I’m really not seeing what is the big deal here. Personally the song sucks but if you like it, you like it period! This entire website speaks for little Wayne’s greatness and the fact that one of his “bad” songs is so controversial. I’m not calling anybody a hater but if you are one of the people that can’t stand him for some reason step back and ask yourself why do you care?
Reply
May 27th, 2011 at 12:35 pm
It’s def not a bad track, I can imagine it making sense in the sequence of the album. Weezy doesn’t care what anybody thinks he’s gonna do whatever he feels like trying, which sometimes ppl don’t feel. Carter IV will be awesome for sure, just like the Carter III, it will have some tracks not everybody will love, but there is almost no way Weezy will put out an album that won’t be a classic. Bet on it.

I don’t know if he does it on purpose or not, but he continues to draw attention to whatever he’s doing. He’s a puppet master when it comes to manipulating the consumer. Just look at how many comments are on here. Maybe he really has mastered the game.

The lyrics are real good, the singing probably a 3 out of 5.But otherwise i love the song. & i really don’t care what anyone has to say. This song is great. Show’s a whole new side to Wayne. Nice to see that not every rapper is rapping about drugs, money and hoes. The song shows that he put a lot of effort into the lyrics because they have meaning. And so what if didn’t make a auto-tuned song? Maybe he wants to try something new and its definitely working. Looking forward to The Carter IV. Can’t wait to hear more dope shit on his new album.
