Lil’ Wayne On Jay-Z Diss: “I Know There Won’t Be Any Repercussions Behind What I Did”

Lil’ Wayne speaks with VIBE Magazine for their upcoming Oct/Nov issue on his jabs to Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé on “It’s Good” off Tha Carter IV. The collabo, which also features Jadakiss and Drake, is still fresh on many listeners ears as many felt the intended victims on the song are very clear. Weezy however feels very confident that nothing will come from his verse and feels it’s just another song.
“I know there won’t be any repercussions behind what I did, I know for a fact music is about perception. You can’t do anything but perceive what you hear. I know that for a fact. So I can’t ever be upset about someone’s reaction. I’m not going to say I don’t know what would happen before I even say [something on record] I do know what will happen. I’m aware of it. But it is what it is.”

THE TRUTH : Miss Info: It’s odd to me that folks seem so offended that Lil Wayne would dare fight back. While I think the kidnap line is a bit overdramatic, the concept that Weezy would take offense at Hov’s line and say something about on his album is no more offensive to me than Hov taking Birdman’s comment personally and dropping a snarky line about it.

No, the last beef saw Nas wipe the floor with Jay-Z’s punk @$$. I’m pleased that Wayne came back at em. If Jay can throw shots, he damn well better be able to take em. I loved the line. Jay brought his wife into it, not Wayne. Once jay did that, she was fair game!

Jay-z won’t do anything. Huh? Jay-z always does something. At the subliminal level OR in a implicit manner. He probably won’t do it explicitly, he learned that no one wins battles. WTF Am I talking about….Well exactly what I said. I suppose. First of all. I’m a Big Nas and Hip Hop fan. I will never forget the day when Hot 97 Played “ether” against “super ugly” on that day. I was not a Jay-Z fan at all. I have every Nas Album and unreleased track available. I lived that. I will never forget that moment in time. I have like 4 hours of Hot 97 just talking about it and debating about it. Plus, the Next day when Jay-Z when to Angie and sounded defeated AND Like his soul was taken away from him. I carry that moment with me. And I deemed it a monumental moment in the history of Music as a whole.
As per your statement. I didn’t say people in Hip-Hop don’t know who won that battle. But there are lots of people that don’t remember that moment as clearly as you Or I do. I’m the one that always brings it up.
Casual listeners do matter dude. As much as it hurts for me to say it. They buy records (or Itunes) just like you and I. They go to concerts. They do all the same shit they do also. They may not be as passionate as you and I, because they choose not to be consumed by it. Like we are. But my point was, which I didn’t explained in my post, is that the average hip hop head does not remembers the severity of that Battle. Specifically that day I mentioned earlier. Jay-Z was deemed Done. Nas was Proclaim the King. But my overall point was that Jay-z overcame all that and become the King of Hip Hop, as far as perception is concern. Opinions vary on this matter.
I have come to learned after growing older (I was 17 at the time) that It was never fair that “Supper ugly” was pegged against “Ether” than more than the Takeover. At least in the tri state area on that Day.
I should have been “H to the Omo” vs “super ugly” and “the takeover” vs “Ether”. NAS would’ve have still Won. But it would’ve been a better match up. No one in their life expected the “Ether” Jay-z literally woke up an sleeping Giant. And it resulted int Stillmatic which is a great album.
But Today in my life I think: the takeover is a better song technically and the Set up is beautiful. It was a new way to make a diss record. Along with the Blueprint 2, in the BP2 Album. They are more sophisticated more sophisticated records and they eerily foreshadowed the future. Where as, “ether” was Trench ware fare at is best. It was fucking D-day. It was an A-Bomb. But at the End it was what The Republicans are to Obama today. Substance wins in the long whole my brother. THE AVERAGE HIP HOP FAN DOES NOT REMEMBERS HOW SEVERE THAT WAS FOR JAY-Z. You and I are outlier my friend. No insiders. Outliers.

It’s kinda funny how in 2011 it still irks Jay-Z that he got ethered. While on his rounds promoting his book, Jay-Z stopped by Cypha Sounds & Peter Rosenberg’s show (Juan Epstein). He mentioned that if we look back at the two songs, that Ether wasn’t all that great and Takeover was a much better song. Why mention it 10 years later?

a few thoughts: jay has said on numerous occasions if it’s not pointed directly at him, he doesnt respect it. so i dont expect him to respond to this diss, he will probably say men lie, women lie and numbers don’t.
Lil wanyne is like jay in a sense because, he picks and chooses him battles, plenty of people have gone at jay but the last person he really responded to was Jim Jones, shit he did a whole 2 verses about jimmy. 50 spent a whole year and change going at wayne and baby, wayne backed off and just said “that boy 50 crazy”. he knew 50 would spend hours, days, weeks…etc going back and forth with him, but he already knows he will not really hear a response from jay.
I agree with 50 when he said he feels jay thinks he’s above the art because he doesn’t want to compete and he feels he is that nice that he doesnt need to respond.
now to the person screaming about how wayne use to catch bodies, wayne admitted he shot himself, smoked crack… etc (go to VH1.com and go to Behind the Music), he’s been rapping since 11-13 something like that, birdman and his brother might’ve been slinging them things, but catching bodies and they dont really have a rap sheet? that a weak angle, you’re taking it waaaaaay further than just raps.
final thought, for everyone saying, “oh no lil wayne went to far for going at B”. we just have to go 10 yrs back when Jay was talking about doing nas greasy and bedding his baby mama. Then he took it a step further and did “super ugly”, if you remember he called up the radio station and apologized, nas talked about how jay use to do shit to foxy, 50 took rick ross’ baby mama out shopping, rick ross talked about 50 maybe having his baby mama’s house burned down.
with that being said all is fair, more so when you have a public life, its considered collateral damage….i hope jay responds, but if this is what people consider hip hop, i am done, i cant deal with weak lyrics and producers turning into dance hall producers(i’m looking at you lex luger, swiss beat, scott storch, Bangladesh….etc) and making the same beat and put everyone on them and calling them different songs, music is becoming convoluted and this is another shinning example of this.

Wayne will promote his album as he should, but when you have a diss record on it, the album has to be hot. The song itself is not that hot, but its cool. Not like takeover or ether, but its cool. Hov is on top of a moutain right now,which his career helped land him there. I THINK THE THING TO REMEMBER HERE IS THESE PEOPLE ARE CELEBRITIES. EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT WHO IS REAL AND WHO IS NOT. IF WE MUST MAKE A DECISION ON THIS, WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE POINTLESS AS FAR AS REALNESS IS CONCERNED, LET’S LOOK AT THESE TWO INDIVIDUALS.
JAY-Z BEGAN HIS CAREER AT 26. BY THIS TIME IN HIS LIFE HE HAD SEEN THE STREETS AND WHAT THEY HAD TO OFFER. LIKE MANY OTHER YOUNG MEN IN HIS SITUATION HE BRAVED THE DANGERS OF GROWING UP IN THE HOOD. HIS MUSIC CAREER CAME AFTER HAVING A HEALTHY DOSE OF LIFE’S PAIN. FROM HUSTLING,GUN TOTTING, AND LIVING THE ILLEGAL LIFE. THAT IS WHERE JAY-Z CAME FROM.
LIL WAYNE ON THE OTHER HAND HAS BEEN ON A LABEL SINCE HE WAS 9. I AM SURE THAT AS A YOUNG BLACK MAN HE HAS HAD TO DEAL WITH HIS OWN TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS, BUT THEY WERE NO WHERE NEAR BEING ON THE SAME LEVEL AS JAY Z. ALL HE TRUTHFULLY KNOWS IS THE MUSIC BUSINESS. BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT IS HIS LIFE. ALL OF THE HOOD LIFE HE SPEAKS OF IS FABRICATION. EVEN IF HE HAS EXPERIENCED IT AT SOME POINT IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT HIS EXPERIENCE DOES NOT RIVAL THAT OF JAY-Z.
I PERSONALLY AM NOT A BIG FAN OF EITHER RAPPER. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE ONE BASED ON LYRICAL ABILITY I WOULD CHOOSE JAY-Z. I HAVE LISTENED TO LIL WAYN A GREAT DEAL. AND I FIND THAT MANY OF HIS LYRICS DO NOT MAKE SENSE AT ALL. HE IS AN AVERAGE RAPPER AT BEST WHEN HE IS MAKING SENSE. JAY-Z’S LYRICAL ABILITY ON THE OTHER HAND DOES RANK IN THE TOP TEN LEGITIMATELY. IF THIS GOES TO AN ALL OUT BATTLE IT WILL RESULT IN A RESOUNDING VICTORY FOR JAY-Z AND THE ROC-A-FELLA CAMP.
AS FAR AS CHARACTER ISSUES I DO NOT KNOW EITHER OF THOSE MEN WELL ENOUGH TO CALL THEM COWARDS OR JUDGE THEIR ACTIONS IN ANY WAY. WHILE I DO NOT LIKE LIL WAYNE AT ALL I CAN RESPECT HIS SUCCESS. I AM A JAY-Z FAN PART TIME AND HIS ACHIEVEMENTS ARE ASTOUNDING ALSO.
LET KEEP REAL THOUGH PEOPLE. IT IS JUST MUSIC AFTER ALL. PEOPLE DIE IN REAL BEEF. MOTHERS AND FATHERS LOSE SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHEN THE BEEF IS REAL. SO LET US JUST LET THEM MAKE MUSIC AND WE CAN CHOOSE ARE FAVORITES.
