Lil’ Wayne Live @ Jones Beach (America’s Most Wanted Tour)
Posted by Mikey Fresh under Uncategorized[35] Comments
Mikey: Ok, ok I know I’m mad late with it, but tonight was the 1st time I got the chance to catch Lil’ Wayne’s live show. I mean, I was was fully aware that he was a star before tonight, but to see this lil’ dude own an entire stadium stage by himself solidified his rock star title to me. Say what you want about Weezy’s style, recreational habits, and his lyrical content but to quote the big homie, “he’s electrifying on stage”. Lil Wayne is an incredible entertainer, bottom line.
**According to Wayne, Drake is going in for knee surgery tomorrow.

Drake has 1 hit? Okay, apparently you’re the type that sits there and only listens to the radio, please listen to Drake’s music and you’ll see he’s not a “one hit wonder” – considering he’s been ghostwriting for a lot of people (including Lil Wayne) for a while now, i’m sure he knows what he’s doing and he’ll be around for a while.
Weezy is just a trend, and he’s truly not that great, this Lil Wayne trend will die down in about a year or 2. (It’s true, look at everyone who was big, no one EVER stays big)

Weezy F. His stage performances has rlly stepped up over the yrs. ‘Specially since he quit lean. He’s more energetic.

I saw him on Wed. in Saratoga Springs and couldn’t agree more. I was surprised at how great of a performer Drake was too for being so young. They really make for a great duo.

Typo withstanding, let dude do a solo tour, and see what he “sells-outs”.
Amphitheaters, clubs, etc. maybe.
Stadiums or even real arenas. NOPE!

Electrifying? Really?? He’s rhyming to a loud-a** backing track and walking back and forth. I’m not hating, but he couldn’t touch Doug E. Fresh or Busta Rhymes in their prime when it comes to live performance. He just has more hits and sales.
If this is “electrifying,” then I get why hip hop is in a depression. Numbers don’t lie, sales are down close to 20% this year.

nah, honestly, I’ve seen Doug and Busta and Kane who is amazing live…..they’re all kings.
but lil wayne is nothing to sniff at, his live perf has matured eons since even just 2 years ago. So, I’m gonna back up Mikey. The guy puts on a good show.

Weezy has grown as a perfomer there is no denying that. Who would have thought back in 99 Wayne would where he is today. So I would have to say he looks like the champion of the game right now because everything he does is turning into platinum one hit at a time. So give dude his props for doing his thing on his terms and winning along the way.

I’ll say this….comparatively speaking, I guess you have a valid arguement saying Weezy has come light years performance-wise, ok, but this is only in comparison to himself. To say that he is “electrifying on stage” is quite a stretch, in my opinion. My description of a great performer is someone who, regardless of whether I like his music or not has the stage presence and showmanship to keep me thoroghly entertained. Weezy does neither for me, despite all the lights & pyro, he’s still dull and many times I can’t understand a word he’s saying, and that’s when he’s performing the songs that I like. For years we put up with mediocre shows from Jay-Z only because he had the hits to keep you interested. Weezy is doing basically the same thing except he runs around a little more. Don’t let the hits mislead you into thinking the show was live.
Again…my opinions, feel free to disagree, but keep it respectful.
Peace.

idk. I haven’t seen wayne in 3 years. Most hip hop performances bore me, but that little dude is all over the place. So much energy and passion, and you can tell that he loves what he does.

Yeah I judge Wayne vs himself when speaking on HIS growth performance wise. Things get more suspect when you compare him to others, especially those that many of us grew up on.

Using that criteria though there would be no limit to who you could call a “great performer” or “electrifying on stage”, if solely based on personal growth. So he’s better than he used to be…that means he’s great?? I’m not hating..I love Hip Hop..& I just get frustrated when these adjectives are thrown around & then a year later you’ve got your foot in your mouth. I haven’t seen a body of performances by Wayne to call him anything more than mediocre at best. Stop giving these dudes crowns without earning it. (yes i know Weez been on his grind since infancy…were talking stage show perormance here) Now I would never go see Wayne live unless the tickets were free but I have seen him on television, i would like to here someone tell me 1 “great” performance by Wayne, alone, no guests.

Or better yet answer this…Will you want to hear Weezy perform Lollipop 10 years from now, like we still watch a Run DMC now 20 years later. Will you be YouTube’ing old Weezy performances in 2019??
As always, just food y’all….no hate.
Peace

I’ve seen Wayne live. He’s ok. Nothing to dedicate a post about. This clip doesn’t help either. But he’s ok.

I feel what yall are saying and you def. cant compare Wayne’s show to a DMX or MOP, but his stage presence is undeniable and demanding. This clip doesn’t do his aura justice. On this night his lyrics were extremely clear, and he had the venue rocking with him in unison, Weezy isn’t my fav. rapper or even a rapper in my top 10, but i still stick by my original statement. He’s got a incredible live and is a rock star.

I definitely agree that Weezy is a rock star right now..but that in itself is my point. He’s white hot right now & that adds to the aura and presence of his performance. All he has to do is show a smidgen of energy and perform the songs that everybody knows & loves. Basically 3/4 of the job is done for him..all he has to do is open his mouth. The true test will come years from now, when the lights not so bright and the fickle Hip Hop community has moved on to the next “rock star” can he still command that attention and respect from the audience. I guess only time will tell.
Peace.

ok, i have never seen wayne live, but i watched the youtube posted above, and it looked boring yo, str8 up…i have seen krs, dmx, and mop live, and that was bananas, this clip was not, if i ever do see him live and it is a different experience, thats peace, and i hope that is the case cuz wayne is supposed to be a superstar and rap needs that, but if this is the top of the food chain now, hip hop is getting dooky

The best hip hop live show I’ve ever been to, without a doubt, has to be when Pete Rock AND Premo came down to Toronto. I haven’t been to many live shows, but the vibe was just incredible. Premo is fun and he takes crowd requests for what to play next.
And honestly, all they were doing was playing their shit back and forth. They weren’t juggling, singing, dancing or anything. But THE MUSIC is so powerful that, matched with their presence and energy, makes an incredible experience.
That to me is a hip hop show. Not all this ‘live band’ bullshit. This aint rock – hip hoppers connect to records different from rockers. Or even pop for that matter. I just want an emcee who makes incredible classic records and can come up on stage and deliver that presence. Two turntables and a mic type shit. Of course it wouldn’t hurt for the rapper to enjoy his/her own shit and groove to it while performing
e.g. Ghost: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDJwZMyLbzo
I’d lose my mind if I watched Ghost go into “Child’s Play” live.
