Lil’ Wayne to New York City: I Don’t Like You
Posted by Mr.North under behind the scenes , for fashion-hounds and obsessive consumers , interview , photos , quotes[41] Comments
“Flat out: I don’t like New York,” is how Lil’ Wayne summed up his dislike for the Big Apple in an interview with MTV News’ Rob Markman. While out in Las Vegas for the annual Magic Convention to promote TRUKFIT and his new sneaker with Supra, Weezy spoke on the recent bad luck he’s encountered in NYC. If you remember, he was arrested for a gun charge in 2007 following a concert in Manhattan. The incident lead to him serving a year in jail back in 2010. More recently, the bad luck continued as Wayne made news after his decision to pull headliner Nicki Minaj from Summer Jam 2012 back in June. The face of Young Money did touch on the good time he had during the make-up show last week that included guests Cam’Ron, Drake, and Foxy Brown.
“You’re not supposed to leave it at, ‘Everything happens for a reason,’ ” Wayne said of how the failed SJ set turned into a blessing in disguise. “I believe everything happens for a reason and then you make the most of that reason. I think we made the most of it last week.”
After the jump check some footage and photos from Weezy’s TRUKFIT booth and sneaker launch in Las Vegas….

No, we’re not losing sleep over lil wayne, matter of fact, who is lil wayne? He’s no Jay-z, biggie, or pac the greatest rappers to ever touch the mic, mind you all of them are from NYC. So we’re good Wayne, no body takes you seriously out here, a man who kisses another man on the lips, and wears jeggens on stage, we’re good.

I’m sure not losing any sleep over it!! If the man has had bad experiences here time and time again, you can’t be mad at it. It’s not the people of NYC he has issues with, its just the circus that follows him upon entering the 5 boros!

I see what you’re saying…its only human to remember a place for the experiences you’ve had there. I loved Barcelona but I still feel resentment over being pickpocketed while I was there.

I think it’s deeper than the arrest thing. Flat out, NYers are traditionally big ass haters (with the exception of a few). But overall all NY has done was pretty much hate on anything that wasn’t NY. Everybody outside of NY recognizes this.

You mean everybody outside of NY “believes” this. Exception of a few???….how many NY’ers do you actually know. Not the ones you meet on the Net, living and breathing Hip Hop Ny’ers. Not our fault this is where it all began! We hold our MC’s to a much higher standard here with good reason. Most of us here in NY know personally at least 5 cats better than Wanye, yet we gotta hear him and his BS raps everytime we turn on the radio. No hate…dude has bars…sometimes…I guess…I don’t know….you tell it…lol

You guys missed the point. NYPD is the biggest gang in the city. The harass and even kill so many of us blk and Latinos . Who wants to deal with a city where there is a cop and squad car every four blocks? Watching your every move . They got cameras everywhere here. Now they talking about air drones to. Let’s face it, this is the most heaviest police state in the whole damn country. If Pac was alive he wouldn’t like it either. Until commissioner Kelly is removed and put up on charges for the crimes against us? If I was a artist, I would boycott this place too.

Um I live in Jersey City…..Hi neighbor and the cops are heavily prevalent in every major city. The Police are the biggest gang in the country, ask Philly and LA so maybe gay ass wayne should feel a way about that too. One easy ass skid bid and a little bit of Rosenberg Humor makes this lame say this. FOH!

Yes, but his CHARGE is here. I don’t like wayne either, but I can sympathize with why he feels certain ways…. He knows him doing anything in NYC, puts money in bloomberg, Kelly, NYPD pockets…the same cats that pretty much set him up.
p.s. you can’t compare JC to NYC. New york is much bigger, and its different from J.C. I been out there I was raised in NWK…its not the same. There are so many more unsolved cases out there where you are…and your police force was redeuced. I’m not saying its not bad, but it’s not as bad as here.

What we need to do here is place the blame where it belongs…….unless the G-U-N was planted. Its crazy…this is how you know alot of these rappers who talk that street sh!t just talkin…..it’s this easy…you strap up and get caught, do your bid and move on. Every real ni$$a in the street knows the consequences of thier actions. Man Up!

In my opinion there’s a difference between “hating” and flat out not liking something. With that being said what are you referring to when you say “hate on anything that isn’t New York”? Also when you go to certain blogs you see that it’s a two way some out of towners don’t like anything New York and vice versa.

Outkast and Snoop boo’d at the Source Awards in NY in the 90′s. Jay was mad at the “west coast dick lickin”. NY was resistance towards the Souths emergence in the game. Even Joe Crack had to check NY “Why is everybody so mad at the south for?” Cube and the Westside Connect had a diss song aimed at all of the “critics in the NYC” . It’s no secret that NY has been the games biggest haters.

I get what your saying but like Rosenberg said this morning this is the place that birth the game so I think it’s natural that theres some resistance to changes kind of like when the older crowd who grew up on oldies say they don’t like hip hop. It doesn’t make it right just saying it happens. Also I remember a southern artist (i can’t remember who) saying that because of their style back in the 90 they couldn’t get record deals and wasn’t getting air time they had to keep it local and make music that the south could relate to and I believe that NY’er felt like they couldn’t relate to some of the southern music. my personal preference are lyricists everybody can’t be good at everything so I do find them simple raps annoying that’s just me! And look at the circumstance that lead to snoop getting booed. But at the end of the day there’s alot hate these days I just think there’s a difference between not liking something with good reason and not liking something because of what region it comes from. What do you think?

If Wayne has issue w/ the NYPD cool….get in line. But you dont like New York as an entire collective ok.
Lets ignore how much Wayne were on Jayz’s nuts and flipping his rhyme style to a more traditional NY/East Coast influenced style. Let him take his wannabe Damu, skinny jean wearing, trying to be Shakeboard “P” ass but to Miami or NO. NY will get along fine.
Will Busta cosign the thoughts of his new boss? Jae Mills? Corey Gunz?
Whatever….”Life is Good” and “Wu Block” soon come.

The problem is there is a whole generation of kids who ACTUALLY RATE THIS BITCH & HIS CREW AMONGST THE G.O.A.T.! THAT SHIT IS WRONG & THESE KIDS DON’T KNOW! Same kids who think Ross is one of the best to ever do it! BULLSHIT!
The halcyon days of Real Hip Hop & Real Mc’s are gone now. It’s all about the gimmick & this dude still ranks high off of that. You see it fading just a bit but he still has power & pull.
Personally where I’m from (In Day & Age), you make a comment like that & it’s OVER FOR YOU! Every cat in NY is seeing you in person & on wax & your whole cred is dead! But dude never had cred to begin with & he’s still a star! SMH…. FUCK THAT!

I think you guys are reading into this too much and making this statement mean way more than he intended. He said something similar when he was headed to jail. I’m not going to waste time search for his quote a few years back but it was something to the effect of “i’m never coming to ny again, I dont like the way they treat blacks nor the police. I love the fans of ny but the nypd is f’d up.”
Again that is not a direct quote, im paraphrasing, but that was the gist of what he said. He was just here in NY last week for goodness sakes!
For you guys to take this personal and act as if he is personally insulting each and every new york citizen is insane.

If wayne does’t like NY good for him. He’ll start appreciating NY when its time to sell clothes. I think he said this to be provocative. There is some truth behind it but I doubt that’s his overall sentiment. He’s in the next picture with NY jumpoff “supahead”

He and he minions of the south are all dumb with their lyrics, he brings NOthing substantial to the black community…..atleast NYC/HARLEM–125th street–saneter hok has a section where there is **some blk pride left, anywhere–any state below philly its like 50 yrs behind, and the education system in the still very racist south sucks!! Hes a spawn of hate/racism with his color struck self
