All eyes from the Hip-hop world were on the city of New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday night, as the first annual Lil’ Weezyana Fest took place. On the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Lil’ Wayne put on for his city, performing an over two-hour a benefit concert at Champions Square’s Bold Sphere Music, just steps away from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Continue after the jump…..

Streamed exclusively on TIDAL, Lil’ Wayne hit the stage shortly before 10 p.m. EST, to Tha Carter III song “Mr. Carter.” The Young Money rapper opened with more recent smash shits and fan favorites such as “John,” “Love Me,” “6 Foot, 7 Foot,” “Loyal” and “How to Love.”

Die hard Weezy fanatics got their turn also, as the rapper went through a flurry of cult classics like “Dedication 2 (Bang Bang),” “Ride For My Niggas,” and “Georgia Bush,” before being reunited with the original Squad Up clic (Gudda Gudda, Dizzy, Kidd Kidd, and Fee Banks).

After some appearances by Mack Maine (“Knuck If You Buck”) and Curren$y (“Where Da Cash At”), Lil’ Wayne went back to Tha Carter III LP’s standout singles “A Milli,” “Got Money” and “Mrs. Officer.” The biggest on stage reunion of the night came from Lil’ Wayne’s former Cash Money group, the Hot Boys. Mannie Fresh, Turk and Juvenile joined Weezy F. Baby for a medley of late-90s hits like “Bling Bling, “Project Bitch,” “I Need A Hot Girl” and “Back That Azz Up.”

During B.G.’s “Uptown Girl,” the incarcerated rapper’s mother and son took his place on stage alongside the Hot Boys, as they held up t-shirts in honor of B.G.

It’s all in the essence of New Orleans music,” said Lil’ Wayne during a brief break before bringing out his next guest. “And New Orleans music, ain’t music without these people I’m about to bring out,” he continued, before Master P, Mia-X and No Limit stormed the stage to “Make ‘Em Say Uhh.”

Sadly for viewers watching on TIDAL, the live stream was cut off following Master P’s performance right before the finale, as Drake closed the show out. The Toronto rapper ended the night with a medley of “HYFR,” “My Way,” “Back to Back” and “Know Yourself,” at one point bowing down to the man who discovered him nearly 8 years ago.

Drake’s set was cut off as Apple threatened to sue TIDAL for $20 million if they streamed Drizzy’s appearance at the concert, which benefits Tha Carter Fund, an organization that supports after-school programs in Louisiana.

August Alsina, Jake Troth, Shanell, Cory Gunz, Ms. Tee, Big Freedia, DJ Jubilee, and 5th Ward Webbie also appeared on stage during Lil’ Weezyana Fest. Watch most of the show and video of Drake performing “Back to Back” below.
