Two of hip-hop’s newest — and polarizing — stars claim the top two spots on this week’s Billboard 200. After being delayed for months, the wait for Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv Is Rage 2 has paid off as the album debuts at No. 1 with first-week sales of 135,000 (28,000 in traditional album sales). With 100,000 SEA (streaming equivalent album) units, Luv Is Rage 2 has the third-highest streaming debut of 2017 behind only Drake’s More Life (257,000) and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (227,000).

Meanwhile, XXXTentacion’s debut album 17 makes its own impressive entrance on the Billboard 200 at No. 2. Despite the controversy surrounding his criminal history (he’s currently facing charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering and aggravated battery of a pregnant victim), the Florida rapper sold 87,000 equivalent album units in his first week, with 18,000 of that sum in traditional sales.

Last week’s other new hip-hop release, A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy, lands at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 41,000 (7,000 in traditional album sales). That’s a marked improvement on last year’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends, which sold 21,000 copies in its opening week and peaked at No. 13 on the chart.

Oh, and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. is still in the top 10 — something you’ll hear us say for many more weeks to come, no doubt. Check out the latest Billboard 200 top below.
