lauryn hill prison

Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in prison today (Monday) for tax evasion, according to ABC. The former Fugees star failed to pay federal taxes on $1.8 million income earned between 2005 and 2007. It was reported that Ms. Hill made a last minute payment of over $900,000 yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to avoid jail time. Still, her sentence is peanuts in comparison to other celebrities’ tax evasion charges (like Wesley Snipes, who was sentenced to three years back in 2010). Plus, that new deal with Sony should be a nice welcome home present.

Says Ms. Hill:

I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that.
