Lana Del Rey’s Answer to Critics: ‘It Wouldn’t Happen If I Were A Man’
Posted by Mikey Fresh under hmmm....? , interview , life beyond rap , quotes[11] Comments
Back in September, Miss Info was one of the first to show Lana Del Rey some love on this blog. Yet not everyone shared a passion for the songstress, as there has been widespread criticism regarding allegations of cosmetic surgery which she has denied, as well as skepticism regarding her authenticity as an artist…hipsters are not pleased she signed with Interscope! It doesn’t help that her first live TV performance on Jools Holland was met with some negative reviews.
According to The Sun, Lana opened up to Wonderland Magazine about all the negativity, and interestingly attributes her gender as the reason for it:
I think when anything gets popular quickly there is always skepticism, but I don’t think that’s grounds for being rude or cruel…I’m sure it wouldn’t have happened if I were a man.
Do you think her gender has anything to do with it? Sound off in the comments and peep her performance on Jools Holland after the jump:

I dont know a thing about her, but I know that as far as criticism goes, be you male or female, if you come out of no where and have labels signing you up and pushing you in our face you’re gonna get Negative reactions.
Many folk want to see you put that work in and if we don’t then all the cosigns in the world mean nothing. Look at the comments on everything posted over the past 2 weeks about that A$AP kid. So gender makes no difference.

I dont know shit about this chick either guess I’m not cool…
But on the subject of plastic surgery Kim Kardashain is going to look like shit at 40 if she keeps cutting her face up… she is starting to look funny in the grill and a litte scary Latoya Jackson-ish

i couldn’t even make it pass the 2:20 mark of the video because she damn near put me to sleep. she sounds so depressing, yet as if she’s somewhat hopeful; i don’t know. but like nightfall said gender makes no difference.

i don’t know if it’s her gender or what, but i definitely think all the negativity/hate is very unwarranted.
mufuckas treating her like she on some kreayshawn shit, but the crucial difference is that lana has some talent and kreayshawn (at least from my vantage point) doesn’t (which is why kreayshawn gets the knocks she does. or at least it should be why).
this isn’t REM jumping off college radio in the 80s. that whole notion of who put in work first and who didn’t has been played out. and it was never really pertinent to hip-hop anyway.
sheeeeit, in hip-hop you bring yo’ ass out all fast and shit if you want to. if the shit ain’t jammin’ we gon’ let you know off the rip, regardless (i’m looking at you A$AP Rocky, although i must say after only being two songs into the mixtape i’m fucking with it so far).
and besides, from what i’ve read, ol’ girl put in work around nyc anyway. it ain’t like she went straight from singing on a webcam on youtube to being signed to interscope (although i wouldn’t have a problem with that either as long as the music was good).
bottom line, mufuckas need to let shawty live.

“I’m sure it wouldn’t have happened if I were a man”
Well, not a lot of guys get botoxed lips.
Her music is taking a back seat because she looks like a duck faced freak, just Google the before and afters. It’s a real shame.

she actually has a good voice and i liked this song from when you first posted it but she seems a bit off in this performance..like she was deliberately being disinterested.
