While the world awaits what might be the second single off his massively anticipated album, Kendrick Lamar sat down with Hot 97 this morning for an endearing, in-depth interview. As for his current single, “i,” the TDE rapper emphasized the need for positivity in rap right now, and revealed the inspiration behind the song came from his homies that are currently in jail and suicidal teenagers.

For those that weren’t won over by “i,” K. Dot talked about the other records that may or may not land on his upcoming album, for which he’s keeping things largely in-house (Pharrell, Dr. Dre, Thundercat, Sounwave, Tae Beast and Rahki). His upcoming SNL performance, Macklemore’s Grammy apology text and a potential Summer Jam 2015 appearance also came up in the conversation.
