Kendrick Lamar travels from Compton to Paris in his new video for “Backseat Freestyle,” the Hit-Boy-produced cut off his good kid, m.A.A.d city debut album. “Martin had a dream!” K.Dot preaches in the back-and-white clip as he walks through his hometown of Compton, Los Angeles before flying first-class to France. As he performs in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower, Lamar later moves to a podium draped in an American flag to preach his story.

lol. typical rap shit. cars, hoes, etc. And people talk about how Kendrick is sooo deep. The best part of this video was watching Sherane shake it. Tell me that wasn’t some “Bandz A Make Her Dance” shit. All I’m saying is that I’m tired of people dickriding generic/typical rappers like Kendrick who are suddenly the ‘voice of hip hop and forward thinking’ when they rhyme on the most typical rap beats and, really, aren’t saying anything particularly new or deep. Of course I’ll get some commenting on ‘oh you don’t know shit about rap’ blah blah gtfoh

The song is called backseat freestyle. The lyrics are simple and go along with the simple video. I’m sorry you expected more.

I think it’s unfair to judge the majority of Kendrick Lamar’s career based on this one song alone. I was on the fence about releasing this song as a single because of how crucial it is to the story of GKMC. You will have to fully listen to the album to really understand the significance of this song on the album.
It fits into the album/story perfectly and IMO, still stands as a great song on its own.

I agree that this was a horrible introduction for anyone that didnt listen to Kendricks album. I kinda said the same thing when I heard this song the first time. But I have to realize that he is a youngin and he’s allowed to act immature sometimes. This is HIS immature song; even the older rappers have immature songs. I would recommend that Truffd listen to the album and give him a chance before you send him into “typical” rapper Siberia. To those that heard the album, !!!! @ Sherane and LOL @ his mom and pops.
