Kanye West has been dominating the chatter lately, and not just because he’s got a bunch of new music on the way (a 7-song solo album, a joint LP with Kid Cudi, plus he’s producing Pusha T, Teyana Taylor and Nas’ upcoming albums, all of which are dropping in the next few months). Over the weekend, Kanye voiced his support on Twitter for Candace Owens, a black conservative pundit who once described the Black Lives Matter movement as “poisonous.” Needless to say, Kanye’s tweet went down as well as his meeting with Donald Trump.

Yesterday, Hot 97’s Ebro recounted a recent phone conversation he had with Kanye regarding his support for Candace Owens, which Ye apparently explained by saying he wants to “deprogram” people and challenge conventional black thought. But there was another comment from their conversation that struck a chord with people and added fuel to the fire of negative press: “Kanye West, quote: ‘I love Donald Trump,'” Ebro said.

This morning, Ebro got the man himself, Kanye West, on the phone to clear the air…sort of. “I just called to say I love you,” Kanye said during a brief and somewhat bizarre appearance, which was made slightly less awkward by his Stevie Wonder joke. However, Kanye did say that he wants to meet Ebro in person before talking about new music (or presumably any other pressing issues) on the air, which will hopefully happen sooner than later.
