If you watch Real Housewives of Atlanta, as I do, you’re familiar with singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss’ storyline: engaged to a man, AJ, who is lovable but not favored by Kandi’s mom because he has 6 children by 4 women. Her relationship becomes a hot topic on the web, whether it’s speculation about her fiance’s employment, or his worthiness as a mate. In real life, Kandi recently revealed that after taping the season, she and AJ split. But that she had taken on the role of guardian for AJ’s twin daughters.

Now Atlanta news outlets are reporting that AJ Jewell was fatally hit in the head, during an argument in the parking lot of Atlanta’s famous Body Tap stripclub. (AJ was allegedly promoting the event at the club)

Burruss’ publicist, Lisa Nelson, confirmed to WSBTV.com reporter Brian Johnson that the incident has left the Atlanta “housewife” stunned and speechless.

Nelson, who represented Burruss during the taping of the show, said the family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time.

UPDATE: Police have arrested a suspect in Jewell’s death. Frederick Richardson was hospitalized from injuries he sustained in the “one on one” fight at Body Tap but he has still been charged with voluntary manslaughter and will be handed over to police when he leaves the hospital.

UPDATE 10-6-09: Necole Bitchie posted a detailed report on the theories floating around Atlanta about what sparked the fatal altercation at Body Tap. Was it a business or personal dispute? Either way, Kandi is still suffering the effects of her loss : (
