lilherb

There’s no question Lil Herb is one of the hardest rappers to come out of the new generation in Chicago. With his Ballin Like Im Kobe mixtape on the way, G Herbo is taking it back to the streets and giving “I’m Rolling” the video treatment. Surrounded by his people and in the darkness of the night, he enjoys his vices like he does on the regular.

The man behind the boards, Statik Selektah, is taking a step back from the normal rap stuff for his latest video “Harley’s Blues,” putting a spotlight on a subject that hits closer to home. The clip brings awareness to hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that affected his baby’s mother, Fran. Luckily, things turned out okay for the two and they had Harley Emma Baril, but the two want to make sure other mothers get the proper care and treatment so they don’t suffer a different fate.

Chicago’s Dreezy signed with Interscope late last year and this week, the 20-year old rapper/vocalist from the South Side dropped her first major-label EP, Call It What You Want. A follow up to Dreezy’s 2014 Schizo mixtape , the new 5-song EP features collaborations with Teyana Taylor on “How I’m Coming,” as well as K-Camp on “Ain’t Rockin’ With You,” Unlike the pure drill sound of other members of Chicago’s new gen of rappers (both male, and female, i.e. Katie Got Bands), Dreezy is aiming for a shared space of coquette lady raps and radio-friendly R&B melodies…and the results are likeable and promising.

This year’s Pitchfork Music Festival had a ton of performers and one of them was Chicago’s own Vic Mensa. With the crowd already amped up, he gave them a high energy performance of the Kanye West assisted “U Mad,” which almost caused a riot on stage and in the crowd. He also performed “No Chill,” his new track with Skrillex.

Drake is playing no games when it comes to the rhymes and subliminals to Meek Mill. While the hip-hop world is still waiting for the Dreamchaser to put something on wax, Drizzy delivers another track packed with lines about the Philly rapper. This comes right after Meek performed with Nicki Minaj in Toronto.

“Ya love her than ya gotta give the world to her/is that a world tour or your girl’s tour/I know that you gotta be a thug for her/this ain’t what she meant when she told ya to open up more”

Rico Richie may have run into some problems in his personal life, but on the music side of things, his stock keeps rising. After climbing with his hit street certified “Poppin,” he takes it to a more commercial side alongside Verse Simmonds on “Both Ways.” The track talks about what happens to cats who play both sides of the fence as well as girls who do too and in the clip, you can see Rico riding around in the old school with a few girls and then handle someone out to get him towards the end. This track is taken from his Realest Story Ever Told project out now.
