uhhhh……Joell Ortiz is a good lyricist and I respect what he’s trying to do by bringing back REAL lyrics.
Problem is his beats usually suuuuuck and his hooks are garbage. He’s gotta remeber that even the most lyrical artist had amazing hooks in their classic songs (example Wu Tang with C.R.E.A.M).
Also I think he’s too caught up in trying to re-create the early-mid 90’s sound. He should try using different producers and messing with different sounds.
He’s a really good lyricist so him on top of a crazy beat with a GOOD hook would be AMAZING. Him & Saigon can bring NY back. Papoose is just a cipher/mixtape rapper. No hooks or song structure and he spends the whole rhyme trying to show u how many punchlines/metaphors he can fit in a verse.
Mr. Ortiz is a monster. Point blank. If he came out in 1995 he’d go platinum. .to bad everythings about a club banger or already having a large fanbase.
