Jeezy tells Vibe: “Pac and Big gone…I’m already ahead of the game” (UPDATED: What Jeezy really said)
Posted by Miss Info under hmmm....? , quotes , things I like , videos[42] Comments
Young Jeezy didn’t totally suit up for his Vibe cover shoot, but he did take a break from his khakis and rock a tie, lol.
I can’t wait to hear what Jeezy has to say in the cover feature about his upcoming TM103 album, but I’m sure everyone will have an opinion on these Vibe pull-quotes that my homie Lowkey posted on BET.com….
Jeezy on Biggie & 2Pac nostalgia:
“Pac and Big gone…They no more. Only thing you can hear is they voice, my nigga, and you know what they voice telling me? You gotta keep it moving, man. Fuck the dumb shit…I’m four albums in. How many albums Big have, two? He ain’t make it that far. So I’m already ahead of the game.”
UPDATE: The quote above was serviced to BET.com, but without two key factors: context and a middle sentence. I just saw a scan of the actual article, and in it, Jeezy is talking about why he decided to let go of old beefs and sit down with Gucci Mane. Veteran writer Ben Meadows-Ingram writes:
“…By making peace publicly, Jeezy broke ranks. Together with Drama and Gucci, he pumped the brakes on a car speeding out of control and veered left. What happens next is anyone’s guess, but after everything he’s seen, Jeezy knows it has to be a better road than the one he was on.
“Pac and Big gone, cuz,” he says, looking up. “They no more. Only thing you can hear is they voice, my nigga, and you know what they voice telling me? You gotta keep it moving, man. Fuck that dumb shit, cuz. We wanna be where you at. I’m four albums in. How many albums Big have, two? He ain’t make it that far. So I’m already ahead of the game.”
But Jeezy knows it’s not that simple. He gets phone calls, friends in the streets and in the pen, telling him he should have never backed down. “But they don’t understand,” he says, “’cause they just got that mentality, kill or be killed. Ant that’s my mentality. But at the same time, I still want to be here for my child…”
“We wanna be where you at” is missing from the pull quote. How can you possibly take that line out? It wasn’t removed to save space on an email. The only purpose is to make the quote viable out of context. In some cases, the context is not that crucial. Some statements can stand alone. But the context here is absolutely key. Jeezy’s words completely change from an explanation of how beef is not worth it..to a bravado quote about new kings vs. old ones.
The Jeezy cover story is a great read, it didn’t need any misleading pull quotes to enhance that fact. Hopefully it was just an innocent p.r. oversight.
oo-oo. Honesty and self-confidence? Or sacrilege?….check out another Jeezy quotable, and Vibe’s other cover (substantially less clothed) after the jump…
Jeezy on his place in hip hop’s current hierarchy:
“I feel like the last Mohican dawg…I feel like the last man standing. I done seen it, I done done it. I done smelt it…I know what I am. But I know what I’m not about to become. I gotta stand for something, man. Who better?”
So…are you guys up in arms? I’m not. Seems like Jeezy feels how he should feel about himself, whether or not others agree. Either that or he knows what to say to get ears perked. (Probably a combo of both)
Unrelated/Related: On the opposite spectrum of target audiences I think….is the Trey Songz companion cover.

I like Trey as much as the next gal, he makes great tunes and is easy on the eyes…. but I’ve never been a fan of the naked and moist cover layout. Case in point, Usher on Vibe….

Not even a fan of the non-naked but moist cover. Case in point Snoop Dogg on Vibe…

(Sigh) And i just downloaded some of his music today. If Biggie was still alive Jeezy would still be finding room in the top 20. People need to stop being so gasp about how good they are on the fact they drop more albums.
Biggie drop two classic albums
Jeezy drop four albums the first one was good but not a classic. The second one got by barely. The third one wasn’t that good at all.Which is probably the reason why he went back to the “Thug Motivation” route. In my opinion this album coming up is the deal breaker. Cause if he doesn’t come through he going to lose his original fan base.

WORD?? Iight, normally I dont do this but you seem like an educated consumer so Im really curious as to why you feel like that. Me and my little circle feel like Jeezy improves with each project (which is a rare feat in todays hiphop) You see it as a fumble, why?

Well to me the concepts he was rapping about was boring. It rare for a mc/rapper to keep especially these days to keep the listener ear for the whole album. Nevertheless keep a grip on the concept of the album.
For example the intro of the recession right? He was on point talking about the struggles of the ghetto and ect. But other tracks like
1.Welcome Back
2.By the way
3.What They Want
4.Amazin
5.Take it There
5.Get Alott
6.Everything
Seems like they don’t belong there. Like they are fill in tracks.I like those tracks but when you give your album a political and controversy title like that you must stick to format the entire album.Which a lot of rappers don’t do in general.Plus at the time they was pressuring people to vote. Not to say that a bad thing but i felt like Jeezy album was a marketing tool for that whole movement.
Jeezy usually never follows a trend. How can you go from Thug Motivation 101 and 102 which signify Jeezy style to “The Recession”? It seems he just went out of bounce to me. Album titles and concepts like that seem more like Nas and Kweli avenue.
That what i meant when i said if Thug Motivation 103 doesn’t do well. He will lose his original fan base.Maybe he was experimenting with the third album. Which is always good to do but it just caught me off guard

Really Jeezy? I mean really?
Just like Baby saying him having the most money determines whos best, Jeezy applies the quantity over quality view to things.
I dont think Jeezy is THAT concerned with the culture of hip hop so I dont think he means it to sound as bad as it comes across.
Unless he’s referencing BIG and Pac as inspirations he need to not mention them at all. It’s safer that way.
He’s already had to apologize NAS after a silly statement.

I honestly don’t think he means to be that insensitive but this dude. lol
“Big have, two? He ain’t make it that far. So I’m already ahead of the game.”
He passed away (RIP) so obviously he couldn’t make anymore. Jeezy can make how many cd’s he wants, but that dosent mean itll be anything close to even 1 big cd.
Quality over Quantity

Good for jeezy he’s gonna catch a ton of flack for that, but hell the greatest cant be the greatest forever cause if that’s so that means the game has not progressed at all. At one time Magic Johnson was the greatest but at some point there had to be a Mike just like at some point there’s a Kobe or Lebron or who ever you prefer. In my opinion Jeezy’s not there yet but I’m glad he believes in him self cause if he doesn’t who will. Jeezy’s a good rapper with really solid albums but in my opinion he’s looking at it all wrong. He’s saying look how much great work I put in over the years I should be considered at this level, but what he should be paying attention to is that BIG only had to do two and really only one, to get where he is.

delusional maybe? haha i respect jeezy’s hustle and his position, but i felt that he could have chosen his words more wisely. just because one is 4 albums deep doesn’t mean any of them have substance or even considered “classic”. respect the dead, and keep it moving please. no arguments here, just hoping this hype would be lived up to, otherwise it’s just brazen ego-talk.

Jezzy is totally free to express he’s opinion, but he so far from reallity he’s no where near the place that pac and big left!!! He does have four albums but u could not get a 1 classic album if u picked and choose from all thoose four albums. Come on dude u don’t have a classic song u don’t have a ‘california love” a “big papa” he’s ego is bigger then music. He needs to respect that big and pac deserve in fact he needs to respect everyone that has been in d game before him . He’s a decent rapper but that’s about it!!!

A case of foot’n mouth from da trapstar.
Biggie made a timeless masterpiece, for all his 4 albums Jeezy ain’t hit a classic yet.Talent is never been measured by quantity.Let the great vets rest in peace.

not a case of foot in mouth at all. If you notice the missing sentence makes it clear what he meant. That’s not a diss to biggie. Its a statement about rap beef.

He isn’t comparing himself to BIG in the sense of he’s better than him. He’s saying BIG & Pac are dead and if him and Gucci carried on beefing they would have eventually ended up the same. He’s saying he has 4 albums, he’s still alive. Biggie only had 2.

I don’t think Jeezy was bragging or saying he do it better than BIG. He’s saying BIG did two and he’s at 4 so he still in the game. Clearly BIG isn’t here anymore. It wasn’t an insult.

maybe he can talk about his feelings
but biggie was alive, first jeezy would not say that
secondly, biggie would murked him on a track
& last but not least, biggie would be with jayz on stage.. and probably not jeezy (or just like a hypeman or something lil)

Yo, y’all are missing the point. Stop trying to make beef appear just for the hell of it.
Jeezy isn’t knocking Pac of Biggie at all…
He’s just saying that looking back on the whole Pac and Biggie situation, as inspiration, he decided to drop the beef with Gucci before they both ended dead…just like Pac and Biggie.
The whole 4 albums to 2 is just Jeezy saying he’s made it past his Hip-Hop life expectancy. With the beef he had with Gucci, and everything else in his life, Jeezy probably felt he should have been gone awhile ago.
However, he used the Pac and Biggie situation to learn.
…that’s my take. I’m worried some of y’all can’t read though…

Artist should never compare themselves or their career to another artist. The media and the listeners will do that for you. Jeezy didn’t say he was better but vibe set him up to be held to the standard of a PAC and B.I.G. “Vibe sucks” believe none of what you hear and half of what you see still rings true.
