(Jay-Z and his billionaire pal Warren Buffet)
After not-giving-a-cheesy-tabloid-her-first-interview since the birth of Blue Ivy Carter, rumors were buzzing that Beyonce would step out for her first public appearance since the birth….to support her hubby Jay-Z’s 40/40 club re-opening. So many red-carpet watchers were disappointed when Bey did not attend. It seems like a lot of us were caught up in in the hysteria. Mr. North pointed out that health-wise, it was probably too early for Beyonce to go anywhere. The club was still packed, though. Celebs like Warren Buffet, Spike Lee, Questlove and more all came out to show their support.
UPDATE 1/21/12:
One day after this grand opening party, the NYC Dept of Health reportedly swept in and shut down the newly renovated 40/40 Club for varying degrees of eww. Under the NYC restaurant rating system, if you score higher than 28, you get a C-Grade….
The 40/40 Club scored a 69.
Some of the violations sound mild, like “thermometer not used during cooking…”
But others like a refrigerator being kept at 60 degrees, bare-hand salsa mixing, and “inadequate personal cleanliness”!?!?
*dry heave*
More details….
And more photos from the opening…
after the jump…
UPDATE 1/21/12 continued:
So according to the New York Post and TMZ, the Dept of Health shut down the 40/40 one day after the opening bash….but they came during business hours so all the customers that were already there, got to stay. Omg. What the hell is that?
More importantly, the kitchen must have cleaned up that night because the club was back open for business by Friday.
Grand opening, Renovation closing….Grand re-opening, Next-day icky re-closing, Quiet Re-re-opening.

I’m so glad that they closed down and re-did this place. It became such an eye sore, and the people that used to be allowed in…whoa. It looks like millions were invested in this place, according to some people I know who work there. Good for them, I hope that this iteration of the place bodes well for everyone.
PS: I understand hip hop culture is similar to slacker skater culture but wow, why was Wale allowed in dressed like that? Supposedly a lot of big names who were dressed right were turned away…yet he was let in looking like a hipster lumberjack nerd. Okay.

just the fact that Sean “Jay-Z” Carter has the pull/power/connections to invite Warren Buffett (billionaire, investor legend, and philanthropist) and Warren actually coming to his party like its nothing, even throwing up the Roc Diamond, and kicking it… that speaks volumes

I am not the biggest J fan, mainly b/c I used to be a HUGE fan of everything they was doing with Rocafella. That diamond meant alot to me, and seeing how Jay cut ties with basically the whole team except Bleek (to be his hype man)and Kanye? (to make his beats)never fealt right to me as a fan.
But, Warren Buffet, at your own club, throwing up the diamond, days after the baddest chick in the game just had your baby…
“Your about to witness a dynasty like no other.”

Word. There are some dingy restaurants that has an A posted on their windows and I find that hard to believe. They gotta be forging those papers when the health inspector leaves.

Inspectors don’t grade you on how clean the restaurant is (in terms of dinginess / dirt / etc) but on how clean the FOOD is and the manner in which is stored and prepared (along with how the kitchen is maintained – leaks, rodent droppings, etc.)
If your restaurant have violations but is under the allowed 28 points, they’ll let you remain open and they’ll come back within 2 weeks for a secondary inspection – where they’ll give you your final grade. So all you have to do is clean up those violations and maintain a clean kitchen for 2 weeks and you’re set for an A rating.
Hence why some of the dirtiest LOOKING places receives A’s on their inspection.
