Jay-Z’s musical history traced in MTV’s “J to the Z” series
Posted by Miss Info under old music , quotes , videos[11] Comments
the friends at MTVNews will be airing a series of recaps of Hov’s career. There is so much archival footage in those Viacom vaults that it would be amazing to see a series launched to give other artists this memory lane treatment too.
[sidenote: I'm also really looking forward to VH1's "Behind the Music: Lil Wayne," which airs on Sept 10, the day before Hov's BP3 release.]

Seriously? DAME BIGGS JAZO where would they be without Jay Z?
It’s Jay Z talent that built Roc-A-Fella Records. Without Jay as an artist there wouldn’t be anything to sell.
Jay parted ways with people he fealt he did not want to do business with, it happens everyday. It’s his right to do so.
When people say Jay backstabbed or used whoever it’s like saying Dame ain’t sh!t without Jay? Biggs ain’t sh!t without Jay? Jay Z is his own boss he distanced himself from people he decided he did not want to be around, whats wrong with that?
Rappers tell fictional tales on records, it’s entertainment period. If Jay only sold a bag of weed, as a rapper he can say he sold tonnes. It’s just music.
If everything these rappers said on records was true they’d all be locked up.
Jay is already an icon, His career is incredible, I mean he’s signing $150 Mil deals, sold Roc-A-Fella, Rocawear for millions and is still relevant today. I think credit where credit is due plus he’s with Beyonce…..

I agree with you…
But, lets be fair. It doesnt matter how much talent you have, if you dont have the right people behind you, you wont go anywhere.
They ALL built the brand together. It wasnt just jayz talent. It was the label. It was the image, the “family” the look of rocafella people fell in luv with. And jayz even said himself the label and clothing line were BOTH dames ideas. Not his own. He said he was happy just driving his lexus, it was dame who convinced him to go for more. So its all of them who HELPED make Jayz who he is.
Not to mention Jayz is incredibly talented and marketable. Everything effected everything.Damon Dash is a very big part of what Jayz became. Before he met dame he wasnt a boss and had no desire to be one. (those are his words) so we have to give credit where its due like u said…

Maybe,
You don’t really know the intricacies, but whatever he was, ultimately that led him to become what he is today, EVERYBODY that has fucked with him has gotten a piece of something, whether it be a label artists or the model/hooker, and in the case that nobody that never got paid it was because a gropie would be given the oppurtunity to get f*cked on the imported italian tiles or if you like the 62 series Maybach…Understand!!!, Brooklyn, and homie, f*ck everybody, we in Brooknam only respect success…everything else is uncivilized…
And Calvin,
Im sure he gonna get his cut, why would Jay ever give in to someone demanding, if anything im sure, if Jay feels he owes him, Cal, would have his very first Swiss Account..or maybe he was smart when he BMW(ed) Red Hook, in Columbia St, or Lorraine st, or even Smith and 9st…
Calvin, you were the mentor for a great protege, Zeus’ father was exiled by his son, and forever stored in the closets of history, but in reality you were that motive for him, so thank yourself cause he is inspiring many others, keeping it Brooknam…and no other….Plus you a fucking BLOCKSTAR!!!forever in history..
haa..

Best who ever did it and for all those who want him to stop doing it it’s gonna be a sad day in hip-hop when that happens “your gonna miss Jay-Z” when he’s gone and sadly that’s when you’ll appreciate the legacy he leaves.
Who else held down rap for as many years consistently as he has, who else shuts down hot 97 summer jam like he does you niggas never knew what it was like for a rapper to sell 5 times platinum then follow that by selling 500 thousand 400 thousand, 600 thousand all in first week a rapper doing Pop star numbers making the industry respect this craft and its money making potential.
He showed us how to do it on a level in hip-hop that wasnt done before he took the torch passed on by Run DMC, LL, Rakim and so on, and even more directly B.I.G. and ran with it. leading the way to the Lil’ Waynes and the 50-Cents and the Young Jeezy’s all of which who took alittle bit of Jay’s hustle to do it big on there own level.
He showed us a Rapper from the streets could win grammys not just the safe PC rappers like Will Smith. a Hood nigga could run a record label on an independent level like Roc-A-Fella, as well as a Major like Def Jam bringing artist like Kanye, Rhianna, Ne-Yo to the forefront who are now becoming legends in there own right.
So if your a Hip-hop music fan I mean a real fan then who cares about the glorified drug dealer posturing that ALL! these rappers do if that’s why your buying records then you’ve got your own maturity issues to deal with (BROOKLYNYG) cause if you believe that any of these rappers did the things they claim on record to the level they claim it then apparently you believe in santa claus and super heros too.
who cares about the nonsense in fighting with other rappers and within there own crew like with Dame and Biggs it’s about the music the craft ill beats put together with cleaver rhymes some deep and impactful others less so more just fun club bangers Jay did it all.
It’s really just about that music and what you can do with it and Jay-Z has done it the most so cut the nonsense hate out and stand up salute one of our many legends. And when he’s gone we’ll say dam remember when you first herd reasonable doubt or Hard Knock life with that Anne sample that shit was crazy or the blue print the nigga made Hip-Hop soul or that Black Album yeah first time we say the Maybach that shit was ill and so on and so on. Enjoy it niggas they’ll never be another Jay-Z
