Jay-Z speaks on the Glastonbury hate, and his global touring experiences
Posted by Miss Info under good for hip hop , photos , quotes , videos[27] Comments
thank you to Splash for sending over the link to this Jay-Z interview on the O2 Wireless Concert site. I’m not interested in tracking every time this man’s every move, but I enjoyed this interview because it felt somewhat sincere….and posturing-lite. And Hov handles this very ugly Glastonbury business with the utmost class, given that he’s been hit with an ignorant bigotry that I’m guessing a guy like him hasn’t had to deal with in…at least…8 years or more. Its also funny to hear Hov describe the unique experience of the Japanese audience. But I’m hoping that one day, some intrepid reporter will ask the tough question that I’m really dying to know the answer to….what is the symbolism of the scarves? Decipher the scarves!

Dont get me wrong, it would be great to have hip-hop at glasto…but. Glasto is a skinny ass jean log hair rock music festival ext.
Wouldn’t we all be pissed if oasis turned up to headline a hiphop festival? Cause thats whats happening to them. And we would be just as big assholes to them as some people are being now to jay.

If hip hop fans were feeling oasis then why not? I’m sure there have been rockers at hip hop festivals before. like Jay said “what’s the big deal?”

Man I’d love to see Jay Z at O2 or Glastonbury. He’s gonna kill it.
There are so many people like me that love both rock and hiphop.

In a perfect world Jay has some good points about performing at Glastonbury. However, there are still a great number of people who are ignorant to what joins us all together which is music. But at the same time how would anyone feel if Linkin Park, Panic at the Disco or The Killers where one of the acts at Summer Jam? They would more then likely get boo’ed before one guitar lick hit!

I agree with Izza, when Im @ Glato I dnt wanna hear bout cocaine and ish…its like going to Rock The Bells or Summer Jam and listening to Iron Maiden. Jay may be a huge *American* artiste and sell out any festival in the U.S.A. but in Europe tradition means alot, and ppl are alot more willing to boycott/protest things that they dislike. So it wasn’t racism that kept Mr. Carter from Glasto…because if Lenny Kravitz is on the bill, no one protest(s).

I must say that some people get lost in translation. I mean I don’t think some of yall really understood what he was trying to put out there. The mans like E F Huddon. You have to respect where he is and what he is going now. Its not like he is starving or has strapped for cash so you ask whats keeps him motivated to keep going to keep creating or better yet raising the bar. If more people just read more books instead of just watching tv you will find out everything you need to know. O and by the way good point info about this being YOUR BLOG!! That just goes to the point I was trying to make if people would understand before they spoke they would understand the differnce between impartial journalism and a personal blog. WAKE UP PEOPLE WE ARE GETTING DUMBER BY THE MINUTE!

OK, my bad for the impartial part, but your blog (which I respect as well as your opinions) seems more like a medium than a personal blog. I get your point though. I apologies. Sincerly.

@a.g…..no apologies needed! I appreciate your support and…your opinions are always welcome too.
PS to the rest….no I dont think the dipset scarves are a great look. In fact they’re worse, because they look more like shawls. Old lady shawls.
And as for Isiah…it’s the Roc? what is? What a bizarre statement.

The whole Glastonbury thing isn’t Jay’s fault. The ones who disagree with him headlining need to be pissed at whoever’s cutting the check. If anything, Jay’s being put out there to take the hit, and he’s not running from it, another classic move. I’m actually worried that it may become ugly in terms of the audience. But knowing Jay, he’ll figure out a way to spin it in his favor. Maybe he’ll bring out Chris Martin….

years ago at Glasto sunday used to be the Roots Day, i can remember seeing Mobb Deep there, but Jay Z headed is just wrong, rap is not that big in the u.k (compared to bands) and its sounds truely shocking live, i dont care what anyone says i’ve seen The Fuggee’s, Snoop, Diddy, Mobb Deep & more, a band can sound like the record they put out (if they’re good) lyrically a rap record is near impossible & the artist just ends up sounding awful, its not that people from the U.K are’nt open minded, Dre & Eminem sold out the Bowl for 3 days a couple of years back, Glastonbury is just not the place for it, and like i said rap is in serious decline over here, something seems kinda sad about a 30 something talking & acting the way he does.

@25. Stash:
Acting and talking how? I don’t understand where your coming from?
The big picture of this event to me is this… Next Glasto, it would be laced with hip hop artists, no disrespect to Rock music, but think of a show with Universal appeal rather separating musical genre’s from each other, if the people wants it, then give it to the people. You don’t want hip hop then don’t support it; that’s like you telling your kids don’t do drugs with a smoke in between your fingers.
Big up to Russell Simmons, Hov, Diddy, 50, and all other artists for moving hip hop upwards instead keeping it at a constant level. “Innovation not Duplication: 2008″

acting and talking like a juvenile, he’s said himself he’s embarrassed by the things he has said in his records, but it keeps the money coming in, the uk is a different audience to the states, i doubt they want to see a 38 year old man talking like a 17 year old, its not that people dont get it they just dont have alot of time for raps about killing and dealing, u.k rappers dont go there because they know it does’nt go down well with anyone over 17, there has always been hip-hop at glaston, but it is’nt neccessary to headline a hip-hop act as it does’nt have the mass appeal a headline act should have. You say if the people want it give it to them, the people could not have made it clearer that they dont want it, im not sure its personel to Jay Z, but im sure if it were Outkast or Dre & Eminem it would fly, talented as he is Jay is’nt as big as he thinks (not here anyway)
