Jay-Z Reigns #1 As Forbes’ Top Hip Hop Cash King
Posted by Mr.North under life beyond rap[24] Comments
Jay-Z and Kanye West continue their successful week following the release of Watch The Throne on Monday. Today, Forbes released its annual Hip Hop Cash Kings list ranking the top earners this calendar year. Jay-Z comes in at #1 for the second straight year, bringing in an estimated $37 million. Diddy, who topped the Forbes Five list in March, followed with $35 million, while Kanye West rounded out the top three with $16 million.
Jay topped this year’s list thanks to his Blueprint 3 tour sales, his stake with the New Jersey Nets, the on-going $150 million deal with Live Nation, his 40/40 club franchise, ad firm Translation and more. This becomes the fourth time in the past five years he’s topped Forbes’ list. History was also made as Nicki Minaj became the first female to make the list, debuting at #15 this year with $6.5 million due to the success of her multi-platinum album, Pink Friday.

Birdman made 15 mil, so that means Lil Wayne really made 30, Dr. Dre made 14, so that means Eminem really made 28!

Birdman taking most of Drake’s money. how does Wiz make the same as Drake? Drake is plat, Wiz is gold. lol. Wiz has two radio hits. Can’t even count Drake’s radio hits.

Depends on how the percentages are split up. Birdman prolly owns a majority of Drake’s music catalog. Artists make money doing shows. Wiz is on tour year round with those two hits and his mixtape buzz.

The more interesting numbers to me are 10 and beyond. Luda topped Wiz who was on top of his commercial game all year. I’m drawing a blank on if Ludacris had an album so was that FF5 & Cognac money? That’s wassup.
Ross & 50……..oooooh boy.

We need to keep in perspective that these are ballpark numbers at best. There is really no way for Forbes to generate accurate numbers. I’m sure fifty cent made a few million on interest alone. (If the Net Proceeds he received from Vitamin are true. Although I read an article months ago that explain that that was not fully true and that Chris lighty made more money from the deal than 50)
I personally think the whole list is bullshit. There is no way to know without looking at each artist books and records.
But this is how these guys keep score.

How could Chris Lighty make more off of the deal when he gets a percentage of what 50 makes, unless Lighty bought his own shares?
I could be wrong but when the news broke about who came off good in that deal, Lighty was not mentioned.

Several articles have been written detailing this business ventures. Look up articles written by these guy:Dan Charnas. i don’t feel like doing it for you. sorry.
And second, It would make sense that Lighty wasn’t mentioned in the Press. He is not famous. There are other people that made more money that fifty. Tata Made like $700 million on the deal and they weren’t mentioned in the main stream media.

Cosign!
Last year was an “off year” for fif, he toook the back seat so Banks could get some shine. but being tied with “officer ricky” might strike a nerve with 50….I hope that’ll really motivate him to make some quality music

Lil Wayne is really the biggest cash cow. He could’ve been #1 but he splitting with baby and I bet these numbers is way off because they can’t really factor in show money where weezy can easily make a mil a month……And 50 prolly finish the year in the red. Where did he make any money he been bought out of that nasty water and his movies are horrible. Ross defiantly made way more then him.

Akon, Dre, & Luda stay winning to have put out very little music lately. I’m happy for Wiz like I know the dude. He made 11 mil on the low. Seems like a humble grounded dude & I’m glad he’s getting his bread with a little Amber Rose on top. 50 is a surprise. Fif is just one of those dudes who’s too smart for his own good. 6 mil is still great considering his output but a far cry from what we’ve been accustomed to seeing 50 pull in. How about YMCMB having 4 people on the list if you count Birdman. Wayne made 15 mil and didn’t even have an album out. Crazy.

I’m really surprised 50 has been ranking low in recent years on this list.
But I like wat Wiz Khalifa doin tho, got a couple mills off touring good albums sales and being humble. Havin a nice piece like Amber cant be wrong lol

Check the EBITDA though…. “Earnings” is a vague term vis-a-vis actual spendable dough.

I dont think this counts after taxes…which means 50 probably really only made 3 mill…and wiz probably 5.5mil
damn sad to see fif tied with ross.
