Jay-Z on Game and Jim Jones: “Competition for me is Nas, Eminem”
Posted by Miss Info under beef , quotes[85] Comments
In his upcoming XXL coverstory, Jay-Z speaks on Game and Jim Jones with the same venom that we heard in his chat with Tim Westwood last month….
“…the competition isn’t based on real competition. I mean, Game, I’m his fuckin’ idol. If you ask him and he’s being truthfully honest with you…it’s just based off his insecurities and, for the most part, pretension. That type of competition doesn’t do anything for me. It’s almost like someone trying to set you up, and everyone knows they’re [trying] to set you up, and everybody. It’s just dumb. It’s not in the spirit of competition, because he’s not competition for me. He’s not. Not then, not ever—he’d have to improve considerably. Competition for me competition is Nas, Eminem. Like Jim Jones? That’s ridiculous to me. So how do I respond to that? I can’t win. If I win, then they’ll be like, “See. Now chill. You’re a fuckin’ bully.” And if manages to throw a haymaker from the West Coast, then it’s like “Oooooh.” It’s not even fun. Like, before I did it, because I would diss anybody. Now who has time to do this shit everyday? But before, when I was running after the little fat nigga from Ma$e’s camp**, I was doing anybody. Anybody said anything. If I thought you said something. When I was running in the streets, I wanted all that type of activity. Nobody wanted nothing. Now everybody’s a tough guy.”

*Hov is referring to his lopsided war of words with Meeno, who was in Harlem World.

haven’t read the whole thing but i love how you started it straight off with the game comment. and you know you might hate jay z but it’s true. from the games own mouth he’s said he looks up to jay z a lot a lot a lot…so it’s only understandable that he has jigga’s name in his mouth, in his conscience so much…although he fronts like he doesn’t like jay-z because jigga snobbed him or something. i don’t get it because jay-z acts the same way to all the other rappers so i don’t understand why the dude game thinks he needs some sort of preferential treatment because he’s the second coming or he’s so good or whatever. i understand he just wanted a chance from jay and felt he got burned…but really game, you just have to keep this whole manufactured “beef alive right”.
i’ll be reading the rest.

instead of saying preferential treatment i should be more precise and say this dude the game, wants some sort of acknowledgement from jay z. i think he’s already gotten that done the minute that jay z started talking about the game…so what more does the game want…who cares about how he dissed you. he didn’t take your demo…he didn’t give you dap or even look at you at the same industry party…he pretends he doesn’t know you…he’s not aware that the game has fans and is “worldwide”…i don’t care. the first 20 times the game was dissing jay z i had had enough. gah.

Nas killed Jay-Z on Ether. Eminem killed Jay-Z lyrically on Renegade, and Nas/Em albums are 100x better than Jay’s albums. How the fuck are they “competition”?
Jay-Z’s true competition is The Game, and he should battle him. Camel is scared.

Nas did get Jay with ether, then Nas sign with Jay-Z.Nas won the battle, but the war was lost.Matter of fact, Kid Wave,Nas original name, has been losing ever since. From his albums tanking to marrying Kelis, to get taking by Kelis in court. As for Eminem, I still having gotten one clear answer from anyone as to what was so hot about his verse on renegade.I’m starting to think people only were saying Em killed Jay, because Nas said it.As for Em album, he’s has one classic and a bunch of so so’s.Relapse made Kingdom Come look like “The Black Album”.Em has never been on Jay’s level when it comes to making albums, and neither has Nas.Look how quickly the public has forgotten Relapse.Even faster then they forgot “Encore”.Who is playing “relapse” anywhere, except for his legion of groupies the rest of the hip hop world, and most radio stations have threw in the towel.Maybe EM should have gotten the memo, Lady Gaga is the big popstar now, dissing Mariah Carey was pointless and pathetic.

Reid is d C.E.O n d real boss.Am sure ur lame ass dnt knw Jay is no longer d president of Defjam cos his time at d head was a flop.since u r so infatuated wit sales then Eminem is better than Jay cos he a=has sold more albums dan Jay in a shorter period of time.Nas has also sold over 20 mill albums without selling his soul lik Jay z.nuff said

And majority of the people said Nas murdered Jayz.. Bottom line Jayz is Lyrically Inferior to Nas !! What do signing Nas 2 Def Jam have to do with who lyrically better ???? this is a lyrical thing Again Bottom line Jayz cant fuck with Nas on the mic Period End of Story !!! Ok Jayz is richer money-wise and Nas is richer lyrical-wise.. Cmon Evil d u suppose 2 know this man lol !! wat r we doing lol

Nas and Eminem > Jay-Z
They’re both better rappers than that Camel and they both proved it. Point blank.

Let me rephrase that INOA, those albums didn’t tank, they under preformed..Better? Ohhhh anelka, you ebonics speaking retard, how little you know.Explain exactly how Jay sold his soul? If you go the “he went commercial route”, I can point to numerous songs were Nas did the same, but failed. And unlike Nas, Jay was never x a hypocrite with a positive message here, and a negative message there. If you go with the he left his friends route, I can point to The Firm.Wasn’t it Nature who said Nas left Ill Will’s mom in the hood? anelka, your whole post is a display of your stupidity.Nas sign to a company that was headed by Jay-Z, CEOs don’t usually make signing, that’s the job for the president. As for Eminem selling more in a shorter time, he’s a white guy that could rap. That’s why Eminem is the highest selling rapper of the 2000s, not the quality of his albums. That is not an opinion, that is simple fact.
Young Bounca, the majority of American voted for George Bush twice, so who cares if the so call majority “said Nas murdered Jayz”.There were people who thought “takeover” was the better record, there were people who thought “ether” was.
“Jayz is richer money-wise and Nas is richer lyrical-wise”
^^That statement leave open the door to this question, who lives the better life?Jay-Z is richer, more successful, seem happier, but in your opinion not as lyrical nice as Nas.Nas is poorer, he has to be currently unhappy, being shut out of his kid’s life, but he’s lyrically better in your opinion than Jay.
QB, lets say Nas won the battle so I can quickly move to my next question, how did Eminem prove he was better than Jay? Before you answer that, pay close attention to one of my previous post.Never mind, I will just quote myself.
“As for Eminem, I still having gotten one clear answer from anyone as to what was so hot about his verse on renegade”

Many people say the greatest power is never having to attack. It’s about perspective.
In many minds he’s proved for well over a decade now.Clearly he’s content.I think that request should be sent to those that still have many years to go before earning the titles they claim.(i.e Drake,Wayne, etc…)

Then we’ll see rappers like Lil Boosie, Hurricane Chris going at HOV??!! That’s not wsup!

Jay dissed Mase for no reason..
Hired Beans to go after the Lox
Went after Nas, stabbed Un and put it on a track!!
Now you can list everything after that all of his sideways shots.. Jim Jones, Camron etc etc etc!!!
But those situations aren’t the same, right?

What beef did he have to hype The Black Album, Kingdome Come, or American Gangster?
Apart from the Nas beef (which he offically started with the freestyle at summer jam 01) what beef has Jay actually started himself?
And Jada started the beef with Beans. His diss came out first, Beans “Put yo hands up” freestyle was a reply.

I’m not the biggest fan of Jay or at least his most recent work or 50 BUT your history is WAAAYYYY off. So I’ll just address that.
(excuse the length of this post.)
1st) Mase dissed Jay first on the 112 Joint “love me”. Mase said “All we hear is platinum that, Platinum this, Platinum whips, Nobody got no platinum hits, …. I come to the awards, Quadruple platinum chicks…” That was a shot at Jay cuz Mase at the time was multiple Plat while Jay was still Gold.
Jay responded on the Volume 2 album with “Check your own videos, you’ll always be number two, …S. Carter, ghost writer, and for the right price, I can even make Yo’ shit tighter…”
In fact Jay explained this to Flex in an interview around that time and said the beef wasn’t that serious.
2)Jay hired Beans? Nope. Jay and Kiss were getting into it and Beans stepped in. He said that Jay is a “Boss” so Kiss doesn’t deserve to get at Jay. Beans lyrically backed that up On a Dj Clue Mixtape spitting. “…Leave it to Hov to X out Tommy Bunz” Telling Jay to worry about DMX while he handled Kiss. That line also led to the LOX going all in.
3)Jim, Cam, Dame i.e Harlem. That situation was NEVER about rap and both sides threw direct and indirect lines at each other. And how did that tension help jay promote he’s albums???
Like I said I’m no a huge Jay fan but I’m not going to make stuff up just cuz I don’t like him. Jay’s on top regardless of if we like it or not. And means people will have opinions and try to get at you.
He’s damned either way so screw it.

I wish more rappers did that so that we can at least hear what we are downloading opps I mean buying….. I mean come on you don’t think that all artist out there has about 30 or more tracks and then cut it down. O and and as far as your healthcare reform not saying I don’t think we need change but to have the government control it is a slippery slop to a “Big Brother” control that is being masked as something that we as the people need. Wake up people whenever a person wants control they break you down just so they can be looked as a hero when they build you back up.

Doesn’t anyone understand accomplishment? When you’ve done as much for rap as Jay has done, why should anyone have the right to say anything they want to you and get a response? The world doesn’t works that way sir. The Prime Minister of some 3rd world country can’t just sit at the roundtable with the current US President. There is rank involved even in Hip Hop. Jay’s rank is the highest in rap other than maybe Dr. Dre so no, Game can’t just get a response. He’s going to have to do something for the rap game first other than state how much he loves Dre on every record.

Like I said before just because you rap, does not mean you can go at the champion. The same rules apply in boxing, nobody wants to see the champion fight a no name bum from no where.
The structure of success of /or direction of hip-hop has been influenced by namely Jay-Z, Diddy, 50 Cent, Eminem and Dr.Dre.
I mean how many crews try to replicate the Roc-A-Fella era. How many rappers try to sell big numbers like 50 and have a business portfolio like his, Eminem helped break down the racial barriers to an extent. 50’s buzz in 03 is not easy to replicate. Badboy has legendary status and Diddy as a business mogul brought reality shows like Making of the band, Runs house e.t.c. When these rappers try to shake shots at them it’s lame.
I will say this though, Jim Jones Vs. Jay Z was dope, i liked the all the We Fly High moments. Jay knows the energy that track had. Jim certainly ain’t the best rapper but I bump his sh!t regardless, i’m happy to see him in the position he is in from being Cam’s hypman to getting a deal e.t.c.
Question is should rappers quite at 40? Should rappers quite at all, in other art forms artists go on to record until the casket drops from natural causes, why not hip-hop?
Isn’t it time hip-hop widens it’s demographic, by having legends increase the subject matter and content in hip-hop? Who better than Jay-Z to pioneer this progress? I think thats the whole thought process behind Roc-Nation.
If you listen to Blueprint 3, you can have that CD play with your Mom’s in the car and not skip a track worried she might hear something that gets you a clap at the back of your head.
Should Jay Z ever retire, he’s caked up so it doesn’t matter if his material doesn’t average the sales of his previous work.
Fuck it, a toast to Jay-Z’s career and 50, Diddy & Dre to 40 and beyond!

WTF??? JAY-Z CANT BE SERIOUS?!?!
First Off..
Jayz HAS responded to Jim Jones and The Diplomats! Of course he didnt respond as harshly and stupid as 50cent responds to people! But he responded. So for him to act like he didnt is ridiculous to say the least.
Dig A Hole.. What was that?
We Fly High…What was that?
Kingdom Come Album…What was that?
I promise u, Listen to Kingdom Come right now. Every single song on that album he through a jab in about dipset. EVERY SINGLE SONG! (real talk) which makes me believe his sole purpose for coming back was to respond to them and the critics and he bricked with bad reviews.
I respect the way Jayz handles beefs by keeping it hip-hop and not doing sucka moves like Curtis Jackson does.
However…him pretending like he doesn respond to people who are “beneath” him cause it would cause more problems and he doesnt have time. whatever! he can use that excuse on game. But NOT DIPSET!!
HE DID RESPOND TO THEM!!! SEVERAL TIMES…THE WHOLE REASON HE CAME BACK WAS TO RESPOND TO THEM!
Any arguments?
I THINK NOT!!! NEXT====>

You make a great point about Most of what you said about Jay but I think or should I say hope he means talking bout Game and Jimmy now. Everyone that really listens to Hip Hop knew that Kingdom Come was at Dam,Dipset and others. but at this point what more can he said about them. Game shoots himself in the foot almost everytime he talks and Jimmy is being out done by Cam right now so he don’t even need to talk about him.
But whats up with that comment bout 50?? please explain.

What I mean was…
I think 50cents ego causes him to make some extremely sucka type moves! Like tape recording conversations, going and digging up peoples baby mother. Pulling Jim and Juelz on stage.
To me hip hop is/was about battle rapping. Keeping disses on the record on wax. If someone throws a low blow, you throw one back on wax. Hip hop was built on that. Battle RAPPING. 50cent has a tendancy to make things awkwardly personal and too intense and its just hip hop. People hes beefing with he should respond with good music like Jayz and nas. Nas did ether. Jayz did take over. THATS HIPHOP! Feel me? classic hip hop records. Funeral music and curtis. thats hiphop. (though I thought curtis was way better.lol) Thats what I meant, I respect that Jayz doesnt take things waaay too far the way 50cent does and he responds in a way thats hiphop. On wax, or not at all. Jayz has the same money and power 50cent has. He can go dig up families and bast people. But for what? Like Jayz said, he would only end up looking like a big rich bully with nothing else to do. Too much time on his hands.

Jay already dealt with the whole DIPSET sitaution. He kicked DIPSET OUT OF ROC-A-FELLA once you make such a move, what is the point of recording a diss record? Dig a hole was just icin on the cake, Lost ones too. It is what it is, Jigga threw them cats off and kicked Dame out too, thats gangsta!
Whatever Cam had to say after that is irrelevant. Jigga showed him whose BOSS! Now if Jay really wanted to turn the heat up after kicking them off the label he would have, and trust me it would have got real ugly, to the point where rappers/artists wouldn’t want to sign to Roc-A-Fella, so I think that’s why Jay backed off a little bit by just doing Dig-A-Hole and Lost Ones, I think those were warning shots.
The whole Buck Vs 50, Buck is the SUCKA!! 50 gave him a rap career, took him international e.t.c and then he comes out and says f$ck the Unit? Thats the sucka move thats where all these problems came from.50 bailed him out financially and he was on radio, doing shows and talking wreckless. 50 recorded that conversation for people like yourselves, if 50 came out saying Buck calls me all the time crying and apologizing then does something else in public nobody would have believed him so he recorded it, case closed.
Now look at Buck?!!! He’s since apologized. How many apologies has Game made to 50?? I think when he ain’t got nothing better to do he just speaks on 50, dude just can’t move on.
Ross is a fraud theres no defending that dude he lied to the public until he couldn’t do it no more.
Game too, just what the hell is BlackWallStreet? What do they do over there? Game’s best material is The Documentary and it’s downhill from there, he’s referenced Jay Z 162 times in his short career.
Don’t believe me

your comment just went with hayleys mc bodied em comment up top. aeriously. he’s scared of the game? really? i don’t buy a lot of what hova’s saying but i actually agree with him on how he goes about dealing with other rappers. i used to be really angry that he didn’t make a record for every time someone had his name in their mouth…but i get what he’s saying. i use to say it wasn’t good for the game and keeps it from progressing but i’ve since changed my tune. i like battle rap, but what i don’t like is manufactured bs and this dude the game is as dumb as they come. i wouldn’t say so surely that jigga is scared of the game. no way.

Yes…when your Jayz and you have heavy radio playa nd drop 80% the next week and get bad reviews…I would consider that a fail. Wouldnt you? He even considered it a fail. why are you in denial? Did you like kingdom come? i didnt think so…
Like I said…
He let Dipset bait him out of retirement and he hasnt made a great album since. He should ahve stayed retired. At this point he’s selling records cause hes jayz and he has tons of fans who want to see him succeed and get another #1 album.
Not because his music is good. He should have stayed retired. But dipset and others were lighting his a** up so he had to come back. SMH

WHAT HAPPEND TO I’M NOT TALKIN BOUT GAME???? How are you gunna compare Game to Jim Jones!? What kind of point to make is that?? Jim Jones is buried under a roster of whack NY artists, his albums have all flopped, and hes had like 2 singles that got play nationally… Game runs the west coast, makes huge records, and every album he drops is met with critical acclaim (check the facts). Jim Jone’s best track besides Ballin was Certified Gangster ft THE GAME. Why don’t you mention Camron JAY?? Cus you don’t want no one to look up when he murked you on You Gata Love It!!!! Lets get to Jigga now…
Jay’s “competition” (em and nas) are both above him anyways so where does that leave him?? BTW Jigga latches on to every young artist for buzz to stay relevant (kanye, lil wayne, rhianna, ti, young jeezy, DRAKE, pharrell, cold play?, linkin park?, FALL OUT BOY?, MIA??, Santogold???, list goes on…) its almost ODD that he hasn’t reached out to Game isn’t it??
Someone on here said Game felt slighted by jigga and thats why hes mad at Jay and started all this… get ur facts straight! Game said he don’t wear button up shirts or drive a maybach on his mixtape street single for his debut album and Jigga was the one who got pissed for no reason!!!! Since then Jay refused to work with him! And Game has done at least one track with every other Def Jam artist but Jigga. The reason? Is it because Game can’t afford to pay Jay to do a verse? I DOUBT IT… Jay makes it personal to not work with Game! Same way 50 is not about to do a song with him. So what would you do in that situation? Jay has been against Game since The Documentary dropped. Now hes talkin bout him on The overhyped Blueprint 3. Game didn’t put out So Wavy until Jay was on the internet with that whack freestyle talkin bout him that is supposed to open the album, then hes got that song on the album that leaked the other day with the shitty timbo beat referencing Game’s “button ups and maybachs” line. Now hes doing this whack interview, talkin bout the Game again!!!
Game is not autotune Jigga, and btw the only people on the radio still usin autotune are Wayne, kanye, and drake (people the 40 year old needs in order to appeal to the high school audience). This interview just makes this whole BP3 mockery so much more rediculous!! “GET VIOLENT” “I’M NOT TALKIN BOUT GAME” LOL!!

LT get your facts straight jay-z’s beef with game goes back to when game was beefin with memphis bleek and young gunz, i know you tryin to represent for the west coast but you need to relax, dont know if you realized it yet but game is starting to become irrelevant so maybe its time to jump ship, oh btw I like that “jerk” shit! that shit is hot minus the tight pants, but i guess thats whats in style!

You can sum up all this conversation in a few sentences. Jay-Z HAS dodged a few MC’s in his career to the top.
One would think he knew he didn’t really want it with some of them.
Before he was even competition himself he was dodging certain MC’s.
Bottom line is, Jays legacy is a bit questionable when you weed through the symbolism and subliminals.
Arguing where a Jay-Z stands today in the elite of Hip Hop and a Jay-Z of the past is like getting in between someone from Brooklyn and Queens arguing about Takeover and Ether. Never ending and pointless.
The only reason Jay-Z even mentions Eminem and Nas as his “only competition” is because those are the only two people that we can research and find actual evidence to argue that.
Ether.
Renegade.
Takeover VS Ether. Classic beef. Takeover was strategically brilliant. His bars almost seemed FACTUAL. Ether, not so much. Not saying it wasn’t brilliant. It was harsh opinions of lots of Hip Hop fans FINALLY put into song.
Then there’s Super Ugly. The song that put Nas over giving Jay-Z the “L”.
Years later Nas is essentially working FOR Jay-Z. Hhm?
Renegade, the song that opened the eyes of many Jay-Z fans and broadened the scope of Eminem. In other words Jay-Z was down right LAY-ZY on that track.
The result: Jay-Z and Eminem never appearing on another song together again. One would think he’d have made it on BP3.
Two moves that he NEVER thought would end up bad moves that he would later rectify.
“So how do I respond to that? I can’t win. If I win, then they’ll be like, “See. Now chill. You’re a fuckin’ bully.” And if manages to throw a haymaker from the West Coast, then it’s like “Oooooh.” It’s not even fun.”
Yes we know the Game is a LAME. We get it. Don’t sit here and tell us that the only reason why you’re NOT responding lyrically to Game is because he’s NOT competition.
You don’t know competition, until you compete against them.
Just a thought.

Y’all are acting like Jay just did this interview 2 days ago…. This was probably put together weeks ago before any leaks or anything like that came out…
Everyone saying Jay should respond to Jim, Game, Cam etc… I see it as a lose/lose for someone in his position…I mean even if he wins he won’t get any credit because you same dudes will be like “O yea well he should’ve won that guy is a nobody”
Tell groupie to get over it…smh

i listened to the whole record yesterday on youtube (love the internet) and i liked some of the unleaked track. the record is good.
lol at the dude who said game didn’t start rapping about jay-z till jay put out some whack freestyle. the person who posted it must not be serious.
this dude game is whack, and so is rick ross.
i don’t know why jimmy still at this whole jay-z battle me, respond to me sh*t because jay-z already won. who you again jim jones? how many records you selling? how many places you selling out? i mean i like dipset (cam mostly) and when jim was a hypeman i thought he was alright. now he’s making records, he’s hot, he’s making money…but why the ego? you already getting yours. i’m sorry the man screwed with your crew and your career but that’s how it goes.
people need to grow up. bp3 is good infact when you compare it so some of the crap out there it comes off looking golden. jay z is putting out some better shit than what some of these rappers in the game are and he will still be outselling you. it might be sad for you but it’s true.
didn’t know the game jay-z disses had gone over 160. lol. can’t wait till it’s at 300.

Like the cover of XXL this month clearly states Jay-Z is bigger then rap he’s now a music icon not just a rapper the jim jones and LiL Waynes and Games are all just rappers most of em aren’t even really good rappers at that, so some of these battle talks are kinda ridiculous Jay-Z’s only competition now is himself he’s only up against his own legend his own legacy reasonable doubt vs blueprint, hard knock life vs. black album that’s it he’s his own league new Jay-Z vs. Old Jay-Z but either way Jay-Z wins thats it period end of conversation. You want Jay-Z to battle someone have him battle paul Mccartney, The Beatles cause that’s the only dude that comes close to the number of number 1 albums as Jay-Z has fuck rappers ALL OF THEM Jay has already lapped them all! there not even in the race anymore.

Jayz did NOT kick dipset out of rocafella. They left dame got cam out his deal cause Cam didnt want to be there. get your facts straight. cam was the only one moving over their. jayz is greedy, this he says, this we all know. even if he hated cam he would have kept him if he could to make money off him.
TRY AGAIN…
