Lets just be honest for a second.. Kanye could have done 400k units in the first week on his own..
This WTT project should have been a VERY BIG DEAL if you believe the hype.. Jazzy the best in the world and the biggest star blah blah but his name seemed to not add an once of anything to that bottom line and his fucking raps are GARBAGE…
Someone keep calling me Dame but I might ne Nas or Cline!!
I’m just not buying this shit and it pisses me off that people are acting like a bunch of Zombies… Pure idiocracy just like the movie.. that shit gets to me..

You’re in your own right to hate Jay-Z. Actually I admire your passion. I could never put so much emotional effort into someone I don’t know. (I’m assuming you don’t know him). I Think that 400K units are pretty good given a few factors. One, the status of the economy along with the decline in overall records sales during the last decade or so. Too, Given the fact the there wasn’t a big hit, no promotion campaign, Otis came out too close to the actual album. They cut off a major portion of the music buying population by just releasing it online one week in advanced.
There was hyped build up. But there wasn’t material to go by. MBDTF had way more hype and it did similar numbers. Along with Kanye twitter crazy, free G.O.O.D fridays shit. So in my humblest opinion 400K is not too bad. My probably had to spend a few more million market the album to sell sell close to 700k. It was maybe a cost/benefit thing for them.
Thx.

I don’t hold perosnal grudges neither should you!! lol Kanye is a genius composer if you listen closely then go back to jay-z’s kingdome come album that’s what Jay-z was aiming for in regards to sound and musical tempo the first time. Nothing like kanye production to steer you in the right direction. I wont compare the two I will say this though: Kanye is alot more relatable, and modern and lets just be honest hes younger, more stylish; maybe its the generation gap iono. but he is becoming the new icon of hip hop music. If anyone should be sitting in the kings throne its him.

MM you must be smoking cat litter…..what you on? Kanye carried Jay on WTT?? Bruv what stops that album(WTT) being a near classic is Kanye’s annoying voice and so so raps,he spoils every track, apart from black excellence…dont get me wrong as a producer Kanye is the man..but he still need Jay…..Nigga(Kanye) dont know how to act and carry himself……true stories…..

Dude shut up kanye has swag and his style doesn’t put you to sleep like Jay… Jay spits baby rhymes and doesn’t have the smooth flow like Kanye!!!! Yay is chilling Jay is chilling and the most memorable line of all I write my curses in cursive.. Kanye had the most memorable lines. Asylum can be purchased that so wack, jays old time call it quits pop. New York is just mad that after Jay you’ll be irrelevant cause 50′s done and who else is hot once jay leaves the west is gonna run shit, we got all the hot young talent. Best new artist Tyler the creator thats whats up!!! Westside homey back in this bitch

I have always understood the hate for Jay-z. Since I myself at one point was not a Jay-z sympathizer. Until I met my boy White Boy Dan. The type of white Kid that had every CD imaginable. He had almost every album by rapper. Originals CD. He had all MOBB DEEP shit, Dre, DMX, Every Nas, Every Jay – Z shit up to that point. Circa Black album. I burned all of these CD’s 19 Gigs worth of music to be exact.
My point is that I started really listening to Jay-Z albums as a whole. And 3 Albums in it was apparent that He has always told the same story. Album after Album. New songs are variations of old songs more often that not. But the songs are TOLD from the POV of now. For example the story of his DAD. Early on he was talking about his dad abandoning him. Later he spoke about his reconciling with his DAD. Now he talks about his Dad’s death and how he has cope with it. His evolution of his outlook on the African American experience etc
There are hundred of examples like that. He’s albums are really insightful into who he is as a human being and artist. The Black Album and American Gangster are good examples of that. They have very somber introspective vibe to them.
The problem with Jay-z is that for every insightful line or introspective line. Or line that examine the human experience as they say in film. There are 3 Lines that are about wealth, partying and all that bullshit.
It took me awhile to reconcile and realized that Jay-z is one of the only rappers (like Notorious B.I.G. & Pac) that have found a way to balance everything. They would talk about killing you, loving life, hating where they came from, loving where they came from, fucking white bitches, fucking black bitches and shit like that.
He has really stuck to that formula. Where as Nas’ songs are often Thematic by definition. So when he is all over the place in a song, but the song is suppose to have a theme, he ends up sounding like a hypocrite. That’s where I struggle while I listen to Nas. Jay-z on the other hand is a hypocrite in disguise….. and I think it is be design.
Jay-z never put he self in a box. Nas did. Maybe we have put Jay-Z in a box also. A box in which he doesn’t belong.

you strike certain good points. I always felt that way as well he always does reflect back to his “hustling ” days out marcy projects into maryland…blah blah blah. got annoying and tiredsome. Wasn’t until after kingdome come that realization hit him that he grew since then. I understand entirely what you saying. he didn’t dabble into his personal relationships till about 2005. sometimes fame does that you get stuck doing “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” songs and don’t artistically expand your horizons.
