Jay-Z & Eminem bring Dr. Dre, 50, Kanye, Nicki, Drake and more fireworks to Yankee Stadium

MissInfo: Tonight me and my girl D took the train up to the Bronx for Night #1 of the Home and Home concert: Jay-Z and Eminem at Yankee Stadium (previous stop: Detroit’s Comerica Park). It was my first time at Yankee Stadium. And I don’t just mean the new one. *ashamed* So the whole night was exciting. The place was beautiful, you could feel the wealth of the organization. The crowd was very ‘Yo Bro,’ and at one point a guy behind us screamed to someone, ‘Show me your t-ts!’ (smh) Also, I don’t know where the hyped gourmet eats were but I had a lukewarm Nathans that meh. (It’s unacceptable for the Nathans at a Home Depot to be tastier than the home of the World Series Champs.)
But back to the concert…..It was major as promised, both in scope, in polish, and in star-power. Both Eminem and Jay-Z showcased their best work and biggest crowdpleasers. Eminem brought out Dr. Dre, D-12, 50 Cent and G-unit. Then Jay-Z brought out Kanye, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Chris Martin, Memphis Bleek, Swizz Beatz and Beyonce. But more importantly, he also performed 4 songs live for the first time…

And check out the complete (and exhaustive) set list…
After the jump
…Jay kicked it off by doing both Kanye’s “Power (Remix)” and his “Monster” track with Nicki. This was a pure gift to the hardcore hip hop fans that probably confused the mostly “mainstream” crowd. Later on, the gifts continued with a performance of “Most Kingz” with Chris Martin, and “Light Up” with Drake. So I couldn’t complain about having to hear “Forever Young,” especially since Beyonce sang the chorus beautifully. (But if you have one of the most stunning women on the planet onstage, why only let her fill in for Mr. Hudson? She could have sung with Kanye and maybe used the n-word one. JK ; )
If there were any drawbacks, it was the audio; sometimes the vocals were frustratingly muddy or low compared to the live band. Blame the acoustics of Yankee Stadium? (A twitterer said he had the same issue with Comerica) The fact that I couldnt hear Em’s verse on “Renegade” or Nicki’s verse during “Monster” made me crazy though. On the plus side, it was hilarious watching the two lyric-transcription screens try to keep up with all the night’s spit.
PS: Allegedly A-Rod gave Hov and his biz-partner OG Juan their own Yankee World Series Winner rings? Wowza. Jay was wearing it during his intro.
PPS: I heard Amber Rose was backstage but not with Kanye. She’s rocking pink hair.

September 14th, 2010 at 9:32 am
J.Cole opened the show fam..
September 14th, 2010 at 9:35 am
j cole was an opener for the show
September 14th, 2010 at 9:36 am
i know jay doesn’t do too many videos but they need a video for monster or they need to at least perform that at the bet hip hop awards
September 14th, 2010 at 9:40 am
J. Cole was the opening act….
September 14th, 2010 at 9:45 am
Well said, sir.
September 14th, 2010 at 9:53 am
J.cole did a little set before Eminem took the stage.
September 14th, 2010 at 9:59 am
Good question.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:00 am
where was J. Cole, hell where was MJB? Nicki rips the Monster joint tho, why is that u can never hear her during live performances, i only really heard her at the end of her verse!Info did u say he performed 4 songs live for the first time? 4 unheard songs or 4 songs hes never performed live….i need to know if theres 4 new Hov songs floating out there i havent heard?
September 14th, 2010 at 10:01 am
Shit. You must’ve failed every spelling test in elementary school.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:01 am
there should have been hes a legend and they are all rappers there so why not
September 14th, 2010 at 10:03 am
But staying on topic I think Jay-z is trying to get J. Cole to do his on leg work, build his own buzz, and have a solid foundation of fans. He took Bleek under his wing and set him up and look at Bleeks career. Jay-z isn’t dumb enough to make the same mistake twice.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:05 am
“The crowd was very ‘Yo Bro,”
“probably confused the mostly “mainstream” crowd”
Damn Minya, feel like taking shots at white people today?
Is the assumption that white people have never heard ‘Monster’ or ‘Power’?… there is something called the internets ya know..
September 14th, 2010 at 10:12 am
hahaha @ “and I don’t just mean the new one”. Be ashamed, Miss Info. No respect for the house that Ruth built.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:18 am
He opened with B.O.B.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:22 am
J. Cole and B.O.B had a whole set as opening acts.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:37 am
he prob wasnt in town.. Just like RIRI didnt come for run this town
September 14th, 2010 at 10:41 am
Sorry to say it but Beyonce really did a disservice to Forever Young. I know it isn’t “cool” to like the song but it really is a great track and the lack of pain in her voice really made the song bland.
Otherwise a great set list and a great concert, really enjoyed it.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:53 am
Where’s jays artist seems like he’s always taken from the young money stable, why not that kid j.cole, maybe dame dash was the man who really had an eye for talent. seems like shady always stuck with his crew. just a thought.
September 14th, 2010 at 10:59 am
why does drake look like he’s trying to sing a dead puppy back to life in picture #5? lol.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:04 am
i dont think jay z believes in j cole. he barely co-signs him or mentions him. no one cares about a j cole opening set,to make a impact jay should have brought him out during the main show to do star is born. j cole is cool but without that heavy jay love i can see him slipping threw the cracks.
looks like it was a good show. good look for NY
September 14th, 2010 at 11:15 am
hmmmm jay-z brings out the half gay acts or the ones with the biggest gay fan base lol
im just sayin
September 14th, 2010 at 11:20 am
I dont think Thomas Ford designed those gucci jackets… i dont think anyone did hahahahahahaha [edit] !
September 14th, 2010 at 11:23 am
cool.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:24 am
LOL at where is Jay-z artists, you idiots act like anyone outside of J Cole has made official singles yet or songs would fit in his set. What is he gonna do, disrupt his set and bring out little Willow Smith, have Briget Kelly hit a high note, etc.
Some of you dumbasses act like anyone held or ever gave Jay-z anything, these young artist need to earn their own shyt.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:25 am
ok thank you for the info
that good to hear
just didnt want see him get left behind
September 14th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
@missinfo: Amber Rose was definitely there – saw her walking through the floor section to get to backstage area with her pink hair.
Also saw: Lebron, Diddy, Fab, and Jeremy Piven
September 14th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
This is the first time i’ve actually HEARD Nicki, as opposed to all the other times when she just walk around on stage, shout 2 words and walk again…yeeaaa Nik, this is how you suppose to perform dammit!!
September 14th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
his officail track is who dat its get air play has made the 106 aand park count down

September 14th, 2010 at 1:10 pm
i was at the performance in detroit at comerica park, and it was amazing, if i had a chance to be at the one in NY, it would of been incredible. im a fan of nicki, and she wasnt in detroit, also kanye. detroit was still a sweeeet show
September 14th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
yep….maybe because….i dont watch baseball.
September 14th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
if I meant white people, I would have said that. Don’t act like there aren’t many diff types of white people, just as there are many diff types of blacks, asians, etc. I meant exactly what I said. FYI, I was with a group of white people, who all recognized all the songs in the set let, and heard monster and power remix and light up as soon as I posted them.
September 14th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
You say Monster/Power remix is for “hardcore hiphop heads”. As if Nikki Minaj isnt the most mainstream bs in rap? C’mon now [Miss Info], you are well respected so do better than that. And yes, a star is born would’ve been preferred over monster (all day!)
September 14th, 2010 at 1:29 pm
yup, I’ll “do better”.
Monster and Power Remix just recently came out. They are both filled with unconventionally long verses, semi-obscure hip hop samples, and difficult to sing in the shower choruses. Similarly, they are not played on “pop” radio. Anywhere.
Therefore….*lets all say it together now*…..they are for hardcore hip hop heads….who frequent NMC sites, and enjoy dissecting lyrics.
If you want to believe that the “Your Love” fans at Yankee Stadium are already familiar enough with Monster to have recognized it last night. Be my guest.
September 14th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
So he think J cole can only be a success with major Jay support?
September 14th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
I see the elitist hip hop fan in some of y’all is coming out today. There wasn’t enough “pain” in Bey’s voice? Arguing Hardcore vs Commercial? This was Jay-z and Eminem in Yankee Stadium!!! If you expected anything but a blend for all tastes and flavors then you set ya self up for failure.
Good Hip Hop Moment overall
September 14th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
I agree with Miss Info. The crowd was very “Yo Bro” and it was the rudest crowd I’ve encountered at a hip-hop show in years. It was like many in the crowd just came to consume as much beer as possible and hear My Name Is and Big Pimpin. I had people around me asking “What song is this?” during Jay’s set and screaming “Alicia” when Bridget Kelly came out to sing.
But overall, this was probably Jay’s best show & personally my 2nd favorite beat out by Fade to Black only because then I was in the front row.
If we could get performers as big as Jay and Em in a real hardcore hip-hop setting that would be perfect.
September 14th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
I know what you mean. the kicker for me was the crazy couple who stole seats in front of me for half the show. They were high as a kite, smoking up a storm, swaying and yelling. He was an old man with a white mohawk. She was a young chick with a tramp stamp. It was like Daddy Daughter (of Anarchy) Date Night.
September 14th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Eeeewwww on so many levels.
September 14th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
@missinfo,
How would “mainstream” fans be confused by hearing the power remix and monster? Last I checked, Kanye was a pretty huge artist. I agree with your insinuation that most casual fans/people who find out about music through the radio know little to nothing. However, those were two pretty huge releases that just about anyone who listens to contemporary hip-hop has probably heard.
September 14th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
maybe ‘monster’ isn’t completely mainstream, but i’d say that power certainly is. i’d also say that the obscurity of the sample has nothing to do with whether a song is ‘pop’ or not
September 14th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Good looking on the Amber Rose link Miss Info!!!

September 14th, 2010 at 5:41 pm

September 14th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Well said!
September 14th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
REALLY??? i thought i heard B.O.B was gonna be there. just no footage huh?
September 14th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
Is this the best hip hop concert ever? Seems like it might be. If not what was the best concert?
September 14th, 2010 at 7:42 pm
Y’all ever notice that people claim rappers are Illuminati the same they used to claim rappers and ball playerswere all BLoods like 10 yrs ago.
I remember a list that circulated that claimed Busta, L.L, DMX and whole bunch of MC’s were bloods. And their was a similar list that aside from the usual West coasters claimed Kevin Garnett was a Crip.
Every generation seems to need/want to make these entertainers more sinister then they really are.
September 14th, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Crazy, historical… needs to have a follow up show.
In the meantime, follow /Erick_Abreu on Twitter; all musicians, artist, djs and executives need to pay close attention.
Follow…
September 14th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
I REALLY wanted to go to this show, so Miss Info, my question is, was this taped for a DVD release? I hope it was…
September 14th, 2010 at 9:04 pm

September 14th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Three Headed Monster’s!!!
September 14th, 2010 at 11:16 pm
whats NMC?
September 15th, 2010 at 12:58 am
Info, I went to both show’s at the Stadium and the 2nd show was so much crazier than the 1st! Mary J. Blige was definitely great for a concert of this magnitude. They performed “Song Cry” & she did “I’m Goin Down”, Drake performed “up all night” wit Nicki Minaj & “Light Up” again, plus the sound was better & clearer …this crowd was way more hyped than last night…incomparable to say the least to any other concert I have EVER been too! Historically EPIC! I hope this show will be released as a take home!
September 15th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Okay (: good
September 15th, 2010 at 10:36 am
BROS:
“yo bro-seph, who’s this chick with the bright wig and the fat ass up there with kanye and jay?”
“i don’t know bro. lil kim?”
“huh. maybe.”
September 15th, 2010 at 10:37 am
that song is a disservice to life.
September 15th, 2010 at 10:44 am
a star is born? *barf*
“BIG was hot, Pas was hot. Nas was hot, I was hot. Eminem is hot, Wayne hot, Kanye hot. I’m still hot.”
one of jay’s worst songs ever.
September 15th, 2010 at 10:46 am
that old man was having a night for the ages.
September 15th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
Hey Miss Info, do you know if this concert has been filmed for DVD release??
September 15th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
I went to the concert last night and it was VERY “Yo, Bro!” too. One of them was drunk and started talking trash to one of the hip-hop heads and got knocked out and down ALL the steps in our section. SMDH
The majority of the people in my section didn’t know the some Mary was singing (I’m going down) -_-. And as bad as “Up All Night” was done, I shouldn’t have been the only one in my section who recognized it from the beginning.
Speaking of “Up All Night”, you could tell Drake was tight that the band was fucking up. If they had pulled it off, it would’ve been soooo legit. The acoustics of the beginning was phenomenal. Then they didn’t even have Nicki’s mic on when she came out! I felt bad for them but they still pulled through and it was still kind of hot. Jay said they didn’t rehearse and he snapped at the band. “You ready now?”
Randomness:
Nicki Minaj must have stage fright performing on TV because she was very good at the stadium.
Jay-Z acknowledged Kool Herc in the audience and the majority didn’t know who he was. This Mike Francesa looking dude that got on the big screen for rapping hard to Biggie got more love.
Jay should’ve brought out J. Cole to do “A Star Is Born”. Em brought out B.O.B. for Airplanes. It wouldn’t have made that much of a difference in the setlist.
I was really happy Llyod Banks got some time to shine when he did “Beemer, Benz or Bentley” Not many people knew the words though. -_-
They played Willow Smith’s song twice at the concert. She got more love from the DJ then Wale.
That “Young Forever” song is garbage no matter who is on the chorus but I like Beyonce’s version better.
I think Memphis Bleek is pretty much there for decoration now. Jay-Z doesn’t really need a hype man anymore. Just go out there dolo like Kanye.
I’m probably be in the minority but I think Em’s set was better than Jay’s. Especially when you take out all those appearances.
I think whenever there’s two shows, people should always go to the second because that’s usually always the better one with more stars and they get the kinks out. Unless it’s like the first show of long tour or something.
We left after Jay started doing his “I see you with Jay-Z tattoo.” thing after Numb/Encore. I had to be at work at 6:45am. SMDH! Does anyone know what happened afterwards?
September 15th, 2010 at 10:22 pm
Is there a CD of the concert, i was there but the cd would be sooooooooo ill
September 15th, 2010 at 11:32 pm
WORD??? Somebody got knocked out and fell down the stairs (LMFAO) shit what sec. were you in? Oh, and after Numb/Encore he just started thanking the crowd and attempted the “ROC” Wave-self explanatory. Then it was over.
Em’s set was better the 1st show, but this one Jay killed in my opinion and he performed longer. I was at the 1st show and the energy was way more crazy for this one. Plus I felt the crowd was more pro-Eminem being there were less people of color in attendance, sad but true, that’s why they didn’t know Jay’s songs or who Kool Herc was. Shameful but it still ain’t stop shit.
September 16th, 2010 at 9:29 am
I was there the 2nd night and from the section I was sitting at (431) the sound kept echoing but still an AWESOME concert.
Eminem was by far the best performer, enough said!!! I was a bit dissapointed that he didn’t sign Spacebound!
I felt like Jay kept interrupting some of the songs and wasn’t as hyped up like Em.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
I was in section 232A which was on the 2nd level left field. Right near the foul pole line.Yeah, there were a lot of entitled assholes in the crowd that acted like they’ve never been to a concert before.
September 22nd, 2010 at 4:47 pm
IT was off the hook man JAY-Z KILLING THE GAME ……
September 22nd, 2010 at 5:13 pm
Yea man, real spit. More viral media from Jay would be a gooood look!
May 1st, 2011 at 3:19 am
Anyone know if there’s plans for an official dvd? I was there but could watch it 100 times. Miss Info?
