Real hiphop is real hiphop…I don’t care where u are. If u go to a real underground hiphop event in the major cities in the south its not that diffrent than Ny. The problem is the smaller cities in the south are usually poor…lacking education…and IGNORANTLY going to represent anything from their area even if its WACK. Im from the south and this is the honest truth. We have MANY great lyricists that you never heard of,but those cats are held down by all the commercial shit on the radio. New york is such a metropolis that even the uneducated ones are bumping into intellectuals everyday…ITS GONNA RUB OFF A LITTLE. Now take the opposite of that..some little bodunk town in Texas or Louisiana where the population is 10,000 people…and those peoples families have lived in that lil town for GENERATIONS. You see the picture I’m painting here. Its always easier to be ignorant,and the only thing most southerners think about is money…NOT ART. There are exceptions to those rules…and those are the MAJOR southern cities. People like Bun B are actually rare cases…he was literally quite the genius in HighSchool..a lover of ALL hiphop and music. You can sit down and talk to Bun about anything from rapping to quantum physics.I was born in his hometown ,and am UNFORTUNATELY stuck there again because of an illness in the family. I desperately seek to get back to Austin where I grew up. Us Austinites are some of the rare southerners that understand REAL hiphop as well as love our live music and ART. I mean…it is the live music capital of the country. So to put an end to this lil rant coming from a SOUTHERN, ecletic, music lover that listens to jointS from MosDef to Mozart…MOST OF THE POPULATION IN THE SOUTH OUTSIDE OF MAJOR CITIES HERE ARE COUNTRY DUMBASSES…and unfortunately it takes at least a lil bit of intelligence to appreciate music that is more technical than young jeezy or soulja ho.(thats just REAL) I’m not on Nys nuts..but to use a Ny term to but the perfect period on EVERYTHING I just said..THATS MY WORD-peace

@roderick504 – I think that the history S7 is referring to how Soulja Boy gave a shout out to the slave masters for “bringing us over here so we can have ‘this ice and tattoos.’”

Consequently, I am peeved by music snobs who criticize other artists for not knowing the history of their genre of music. It certainly adds an inherent value, but it’s not the end/all-be/all. I’m an entrepreneur, but I don’t know the history of entrepreneurship. Why should artists such as BG Knocc Out, Dresta, and Cold 187um have to know anything about Kool Herc?
