Some of music’s biggest stars were celebrated as the 2018 Billboard Music Awards invaded Las Vegas on Sunday night (May 20). Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, this year’s award show featured performances by Ariana Grande, Camilla Cabello and Pharrell Williams, Khalid and Normani, Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled, plus Salt-N-Pepa closing the BBMAs with “Whatta Man” alongside En Vogue. Janet Jackson made history, by becoming the first black woman to be honored with the Icon Award. Presented by Bruno Mars, the pop entertainer electrified the night with a medley performance of “Nasty,” “If” and “Throb.”

For all our challenges, we live at a glorious moment in history,” said Janet in her acceptance speech. “It’s a moment when, at long last, women have made it clear that we will no longer be controlled, manipulated, or abused. I stand with those women and with those men equally outraged by discrimination. My prayer is that weary of such noise, we turn back to the source of all calmness. That source is God. Everything we lack, God has in abundance. Compassion, sensitivity, patience, and a boundless love.”
