Janelle Monáe’s new album Dirty Computer arrives later this evening at the stroke of midnight. The artist, actress and activist has been busy over the last 48 hours, making stops at various radio stations on a promo run. The Kansas City-native recently sat down with Rolling Stone, where she opened up about her sexuality and the new album.

Continue after the jump….

Speaking with Brittany Spanos, Monáe frees herself, coming out as queer to the public for the first-time. “Being a queer black woman in America,” she says, before gathering her thoughts and continuing, “someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker.” Janelle originally identified as bisexual, “but then later I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am,” she later states.
