J. Cole doesn’t normally release many of these “behind the scenes” Youtube clips, but this one is a rare treat. In the opening Cole channels his inner Asian boy and busts out a few notes on the violin. Who knew?
our homeboy Lowkey and friends share a public discussion on: Whats Going On With J.Cole’s Career?
and footage of Cole performing “Work Out”
after the jump…
Rap-Up posted footage of Cole performing “Work Out” on Rihanna’s LOUD Tour.

LOL ! I was thinking the same thing but i didn’t want to hear the obvious “hater” rebuttal lol maybe roc nation need to revise their strategy of “tough love” or “do for self” . I still believe you have to develop an artist. maybe thats why roc nation roster is depleted.
for example : Eminem seems to have a hands on approach with his signed artist which is why a lot of them are successful. I havent seen jay-z in any of his videos or even heard of him in a studio session correct me if im wrong.Im not saying hold j-cole hand through the whole process. but more advice then just sitting passenger seat in his maybach and listening to his latest songs would be helpful.

I’m kinda getting tired of the “Jay-Z happened to J. Cole’s career” joke. This whole things bugs me bc if J. Cole dropped an album shortly after being signed and it wasn’t good, people would’ve said it was rushed. But since he’s taken his time, people are claiming the Jay has stalled his career. The bottom line is, it takes TIME to create a great album, it takes TIME to create buzz for an artist. It takes even more time when said artist has been touring all over the world. We’ve already seen what can happen when a talented artist jumps the gun simply bc they’re considered “hot” at the moment. The album ends up being rushed and ultimately the quality is lackluster.
Personally, I appreciate J. Cole taking his time with the album and dropping a mixtape in the meantime. I think it was a smart move. Friday Night Lights helped him keep the interest of the fans he’d already gotten and expand his fan base at the same time.
Anyway, back to the post, I’m happy he’s expanding his internet presence bc quite frankly, artist-internet presence=FLOP! O and we get to see his personality more bc sometimes he seems a little boring. I’m excited about the album and I hope he keeps the YouTube videos coming.

I respect your passion for artistry and im glad to see your a real fan of j-cole. You obviously havent done your homework on roc-nation for that i wont fault you, but to not hold up a label head to the same responsibilities as others because hes an artist is absurd.
But lets be serious eventually you have to question Jay-z (mind you j cole has 4 mixtapes so its not the music holding him back). what artist on roc nation has dropped an album or had a huge promotional push? Jay-z is the ceo of roc-nation correct? why shouldn’t we critique him and hold him up to the same standards like any other ceo in the music business? every artist at roc nation has left or has been caught in the system so long they turn into shelf dust. Wale might have been the smartest artist by leaving before he started getting dusty

It seems that people forget that RocNation is not just a record label, they also manage artist (in addition to publishing), songwriters, producers, engineers and DJs. Wale was never signed to RocNation in terms of a recording contract, however, he was and still is managed by them. By no means am I saying don’t hold Jay-Z accountable for his decisions as a label head. What I am saying is that people shouldn’t speak as if Jay Z is solely responsible for J Cole’s career. No we haven’t seen big promotional pushes for any of the artist. But then again, J Cole was their 1st artist signed and he just finished his album. So what RocNation is willing to do to push their artist remains to be seen. Since it appears that you have more information than me, who exactly left RocNation? And what artist have, as you said, “been caught in the system so long they turn into shelf dust?”
