Former Bad Boy Artist G-Dep Confesses To Murder
Posted by Mr.North under crime , sigh.... , ugh[33] Comments
Former Bad Boy rapper G-Dep, famously known for his 2001 hits “Let’s Get It” and “Special Delivery” walked into the 25th Precinct in New York City on Wednesday (December 15th) and confessed to a 17 year old murder that he committed back in 1993.
It took nearly two decades, but the guilt of murder finally became too much for Trevell Coleman. Wednesday night, after years of living with the burden, Coleman, 36, walked into the 25th Precinct and shockingly confessed to the very cold case, the sources said.
The career criminal — once signed to superstar rap mogul Shawn “Diddy” Combs’ record label — was just 18 when he fatally shot a Queens man outside an East Harlem housing project in 1993, police sources said.
“I shot and killed someone 17 years ago,” Coleman told a cop in the station house.
As Coleman continued to reveal more details of the Oct. 19, 1993, murder of John Henkel outside the James Weldon Johnson Houses — things only the killer would know — the officer reached out to investigators at the 23rd Precinct, where the crime took place. “It was just eating away at him,” said a police source.

Coleman, who grew up in the projects, told cops he was riding a bike when he rolled up on Henkel, 32, on Park Avenue and East 114th Street and announced a robbery.
Coleman told Detective William Dunn that Henkel resisted and grabbed his .40-caliber gun. He allegedly admitted that he pulled away and shot his victim three times in the chest. Coleman said he fled and tossed the weapon into the East River. Henkel was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. When the detective reviewed the cold-case file, he was amazed to discover that Coleman’s tale matched up. Coleman, who has racked up more than 25 arrests since 2003 for drugs, burglary and grand larceny, was charged with murder, and is being held without bail.
“My client is presumed innocent, and the case is going to grand jury,” said Coleman’s lawyer, Michael Alperstein.

lol i’m co-signing doe, it was NOT OCTOBER 15th loooool Planet Earth wake up and smell the coffee.
Anyway G-Dep’s been battling drug addiction and the revelation of the murder is sad.
If he did do it, then hopefully the judge will take into account the fact that he confessed and not give him a life sentence. I think he’s reached a moment of clarity and wants a fresh start. Wish dude all the best.

The judge will not take into consideration that he “man” up and confess. He will be tried as if he was caught the day after the murder.
25 to life.
To confess now shows he has a conscience, however I will not pity him, but hope that for his sake, he is able to sleep well at nights, I can only imagine how much this was haunting him.

Well, its easy to judge but who r u? Everyone makes mistakes- some worst than others (thats life)… I feel that Dep knows and understands what happened and clearly as was said after all this time its been “eatn at him”. He jus had to do somethin and couldnt think of anything else but to turn himself in. If you ask me, it shows heart, care, and remorse. Therefore, my heart goes out to both; the victim’s family for finally closing the case and Dep for taking responsibility n showin need for closure too.

Perhaps it was his conscious so i can’t knock that. Otherwise, life has to really be terrible to condemn yourself to 25 to life.

A lot of people are going to think G-Dep is crazy for confessing to murder from out of no where. It’s a real tragic situation for both the family of the victim, but also for G-Dep. It’s common knowledge he has had issues with drugs in the past. One factor that people use drugs is to take them away to another place. An the reality is, in regards to G-Dep, is that no drug could numb the guilt of the offence he committed. 17 years he wrestled with his consciounse and no matter how many records he made, sold and money hevmade could not make the murder he committed go away. Although he has killed another human being, I respect him for not being a coward and admitting the murder. It will finally help him in his life. Ok, he looking at 30 years away but 30 years time he will be 66 years old and could live the last years of his life knowing he did the right thing by admitting to the authorities for the awful crime he committed. The family of the victim can get some closure. Losing a family member must be the worst pain you can feel. Very tragic story. G-Dep. Well done for doing the right thing and admitting your guilt. Keep you chin up

True. People are calling him stupid but you can’t understand from his point of view. He KNOWS how much time he’s going to do, he’s not an idiot. If he’s willing to face that then its obvious that the guilt is strong enough to make a man willingly spend years in jail after getting away with it.

After doing some thinking maybe he did this in order to keep himself clean OR he just couldn’t make it out here and felt that was the only way he could live.
You gonna see the jails fill up a lot right now..things aren’t getting better…only worst.

God be with u G-Dep, you came clean. You took ownership of what you did, ready for the serious consequences and I believe with in my heart Allah will forgive you. I know you suffered and its time to heal. However, you took a man’s life and that man’s family’s peace of mind. It was a hellish experience for them because they never knew who did it, nor did they know how it really happened. I feel Allah is using you as an example for all those thinking about committing murder to refrain from the act and/or to confess. Please don’t think your life is in vain, you have touched more people than u know. God keep you safe and provide you and that man’s family closure.

he wont get 25 years this is NY it will be reduced to manslaughter only if you blow trial do you get 25 years or life, he confessed he may even get a 3 to life or something, he may even get off on a technicality and beat the charge , no witness no weapon! was he under the influence when he confessed? it could be a strategy someone was about to rat him out! There are 8 million stories in NYC!

Preach.. Everyone likes to bad mouth 5-0, judges, the legal system, etc.. But anyone in NY knows the “legal system” is made for the Defense and the perps.. Like you said, it’ll definitely be reduced to manslaughter anyway, and he might even get off on a technicality. Not many do real time in NY.

Check this shit out!
In an interview with the New York Post, the troubled rapper seems to hint that he thought he would be walking out of the precinct after the confession.
“I was surprised, for some reason I didn’t think that he died. When they [police] told me I was like, ‘Oh I’m not going home after this,’” he said.
After sitting in jail for several days, maybe the realization that he may never see the free world again is setting in on Dep. But he says he talked things over with his mother and girlfriend before going to the police station.
“I told my mom and my girlfriend that I wanted to confess and they both told me to leave it in the past. My girlfriend is pretty peeved,” the former chart topping rapper admitted. “I thought if I turned myself in it might give me closure, I’m just trying to get right with God. The only thing I regret is that I have to leave my kids.”
Sad. Just sad.
