Birdman Welcomes ‘American Idol’ Alum Chris Richardson to YMCMB

Finishing fifth place on America’s most watched television series doesn’t mean you won’t be successful. Just ask contestant Chris Richardson, who appeared on the sixth season. Birdman announced the singer/songwriter is now on Young Money/Cash Money Records earlier today. If you remember, Baby said he was planning on signing two more acts to the YMCMB roster three days ago in an XXL Mag interview. The Young Money president said they first recognized 27-year old Virginia native on American Idol. Richardson plans on releasing his YMCMB debut in May.
Watch the full announcement after the jump.
“You might have saw him, he started off the way we recognized his talent, on American Idol. Somebody who knew him, knew us and Josh connected us,” he said. “That’s how this started, us watching his talent on TV.” – Birdman
“Being part of this team, I’m really family-oriented so just having the comradery of everyone in this label is just something so special. I can’t even explain it. But it definitely is inspiring. Every day I come into the studio and I go until I stop, really. I’m so inspired to all my label mates, everybody here are still here doing the same thing.” – Chris

They don’t…this is a business and it’s about having multiple and various revenue streams. All of their artists tap into different demographics…plus, they learned from Akon. Akon signed one Lady Gaga when no one else believed in her and he himself said that he doesn’t have to work again because of the money he makes off of her. Dude even has a gas station on his property outside of his house in Jersey.

They don’t? I know this is a business as well as anyone. But lets not act like we haven’t seen numerous labels sign more act then they manage. Rocafella? Gunit?

Record labels are not management companies. All of those who were signed to “The Roc’” and to G-Unit were all given those high interest loans (aka contract) to record. Record they did. Those artists who are no longer are with those record labels or, who just aren’t relevant anymore either failed themselves or got into something else. The music business is not a babysitting one. Artists have to manage their own careers when they see they’re not a priority.

Oh really? Ok Well I’m not gonna get into putting peoples business out cuz that’ll miss the point of the original post. But to say they “either failed themselves or got into something else.” Is quite a broad brush your painting with.
Either way we’ll see how CM works all these recent roster additions.

I agree whats the point of all this? Whats up with J.Sean? Are they going to drop an album a month? and what about all the unreleased dudes?
Lets be clear… I would hate to be on Cash Money Records right now..
You got Nicki and Drake in beef with Common and Kim you’d have to think that eventually these dudes would have to prove themselves on a pure hi hop mc vs mc level and they just arent built for that..
