Ice-T thought his legacy would earn him a pass for this ridiculous rant about Soulja Boy and his role in “single-handedly destroying hip hop.” But instead, Soulja Boy hears Ice-T’s foul message, responds…..and checks him.
Trust me, I can’t believe it either. In fact, I would have never known, because I didnt bother to watch Soulja Boy’s response until FWMJ told me to. Now for the first 4 minutes, Soulja Boy clowns Ice-T with a litany of “old” jokes. Some of them are actually pretty funny (sherm perm), all of them are very kindy-garten. But somewhere around the 4:20 mark….Soulja Boy gets a little more serious, and takes the rap legend to task (with, dare I say, a bit of class?). My world is crashing down around me. SB gets the nod.
Ice-T, you should be ashamed of yourself. Talking about fellating teenage boys. Special Victims Unit.

I don’t like SB’s music but i do not have anything against him at the end of the day he is doing what he wants to. But what I have a problem with is people calling his music hip hop. Why? Because he raps? Then call it Rap music. You don’t call everyone that sings an RnB artist. But back to this, SB has a point. I saw an interview with a rapper called Killer Mike, and he made a valid point. When he was asked who was not good for hip hop at the moment, he listed critically acclaimed artists that weren’t releasing any music. His reasoning was he can’t get mad at the “junk” because it makes money but the artists who “make good hip hop” should then release stuff as well so there is a balance. And to be honest I completely agree with him. SO to SB, I might not like your music, but do your thing.

As an ARTIST.. as an EMCEE….I’ll be the first to say…In HIP HOP…Diversity is Needed…and No one person can Ruin a culture….If anything if an Artist is wack in your opinion..cool..you’re entitled to it..Still..You don’t hear Brian McKnight running around saying T PAIN is wack….You don’t see Baby Face hoping on the net like..Pretty Ricky is killing R&B…It’s people doing what they do…and people grasping their movement or not. Ice T is a pioneer..True….But he hasn’t been RELEVANT in Hip Hop in quite some time…I could see if he had a record label with a stable of 10 incredibly TALENTED cats that’s were all about lyrics all about expression all about the MUSIC and not about money and he PERSONALLY financed the movement and injected it into HIP HOP…Then He has a Major voice…He has more leverage…He can say…This is REAL rap..and That isn’t !…But..that’s not the case…He just wants to sound off on who he thought was an easy target…And after watching that Video of Soljah Boy…Seems as if That’s far from the case…

Don’t really care for Soulja Boy, since his music isn’t for me in the first place, but Ice-T was lame for trying to blame him for killing hip-hop. Hip-hop has been in ICU for a minute, and he should know better than to attack some 17 year old kid. The boy is catering to his age, not to your old behind. Know wht, shout out to Soulja Boy. What would have made this even better if he said this to Ice T’s face and actually managed to express himself the same way Ice T would have a fit.
As for Soulja Boys contribution, i dnt get mad at that coz its not like he’s tryin to change the game. He’s doin what he feels is creative and at the end of the day kids love him.
Back in the day, Digital Underground had the Humpty Dance e.t.c and some people did not like that. Same as Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince early material.
As for hip-hop and music in general, music is art so whatever an artist does creatively is not going to be embraced by everyone. My young brother, nephews and nieces like dude so I dnt get mad when they crank dat like Soulja Boy infront of my Mom and Dad who are about the same age as Ice T, they don’t get mad they laugh at it and enjoy the moment.
Am a huge 2 Pac & Biggie fan, I started listening to rap primarily when I 1st heard “Straight Outta Compton” Been an NWA fan since. Public Enemy e.t.c and as turn into a young hustler Dipset, Old Rocafella and Jay Z, D-Block & G-Unit, Fabolous is on constant rotation.
Dn’t really listen to Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Jay Electronica andsimilar artists coz their music means nuthin to me!
Shout out to 50 too coz I never thought i’d see the day, that elderly members of the community turn up Hot 97 to listen to Mr.Cee and 50’s new throbacks.

He made some points but for real his shit is wack is fuck. I mean it’s good to see a young cat making money but a lot of shit is killing hip hop. Unfortunately, Ice T is blaming all this shit on sb when he really should be pointing on the entire generation right now. De La Soul pointed most of the shit out in stakes is high which was made like 12 yrs ago. I see hip hop coming back truly in the underground.
