Iggy Azalea vs. Azealia Banks (Round 2): T.I. Steps In & Defends Iggy, Azealia Responds
Posted by Mr.North under beef , interview , quotes[44] Comments
Earlier this week, T.I. made a visit to DJ Drama’s radio show on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 to introduced the ‘Hustle Gang’. The name represents the crop of artists he recently signed to Grand Hustle Records including Iggy Azalea, Chip (Chipmunk), and D.O.P.E. After T.I. updated listeners on his upcoming movie roles, and the Trouble Man album, the focus soon shifted to getting to know the new signees. The standout, Iggy Azalea spoke on her Australian roots, the rap scene in that country, her XXL Freshmen cover, and her thoughts on Azealia Banks’ comments towards her on Twitter. While Iggy stayed humble and preached support during her response, The King didn’t hold back and was more blunt defending his new artist.
“Strategically if she really cares about a freshmen cover maybe she could hope that she’ll suck enough to get shelved and then next year when the freshmen cover comes back around, maybe she’ll still be a freshman. If you spend half of your day getting money and the other half of your day counting money, you ain’t got no time in your day to worry about nobody else.”
Azealia Banks soon caught wind of the interview and gave her response, after the jump…..

I’m not familiar with either of these ladies musics, but I like the response by Banks. This can only get worse for T.I. he should fall back, lest he lose cred for continually getting punked by a girl. HAHA.

Let’s be honest, Azelia is upset over Google search results. I still can’t figure out which spelling is which.
Banks has a better tune, pity she’s getting attention being known as a hater.

All is forgiven as far as I’m concerned… I dont know if she means it or not but she said it and thats all that matters..

Azalea banks isnt really all of that in fact she sounds like some techno reject but what upsets me about TI’s coonery is that Azalea wasnt talking about iggy’s talent she was referring to a white woman calling herself a slave master on a song and after the flack KREAYSHAWN caught no one seemed to notice this is a asinine subject truly but it just upsets me when someones trying to make a point and ignorant people relate a moral issue to money like TI just did…

I like T.I, and i’m digging both A.Banks and Iggy’s music but I have to agree, he was corny for that one.
He wouldn’t let any of the other artists get a fuckin word in, and who are you to jump in and act like a lil bitch because a female said something about another female?? Stay in ya lane holmes, Iggy’s not Tiny, you do not need to defend her, she was speaking her peace up until you jumped in on the convo with your new teeth and Bill Cosby tone. Sit down Tip.

Ok ,hand me a late pass please. I’m unclear on the ‘Runaway Slave Master’ reference. Where is that exactly? On a song, interview? I’d like to hear/read that for self. I actually liked the idea behind Iggy Azalea, but I can see this bothering me, therefore I need to get to the bottom of it.

It’s weird Iggy sounds so different in interviews compared to when she raps. I know singers can “lose” their accent while performing but it’s like she adopts a new one… just sayin.
If she had pursued pop music she would be platinum already.

She’s been here since ’06 and lived in the south for a while. Explains her accent. Also, how much Aussies make it big over here with their accent? Would you take her serious if she started rapping with her aussie accent?
Just asking..

we will see who is better in the long run. Right now IGGY is making headlines, with who she is signed to and TI backing her. Banks needs to make some music. But by her continually commenting on IGGY makes her look like a hater even if she isnt… IGGY has sex apeal, looks good, has her own on style, has an accent and is marketable worldwide..Banks can’t f*ck with IGGY’s looks. Look at RiHanna she sells records and is super succesful because of how she looks. SexAppeal, looks even when she has no make up, who dont wanna BANG RiHanna? Looks and Sexappeal sells and easily marketable. Compared to an average looking chick.

Iggy clarifies the lyric, it was careless, yet not intentional. I think it deserves a pass:
“Dear world,
I’m writing you today to address a lyric I said a few months ago in one of my songs that I feel has been used to unfairly slander my character and paint me as a racist person.
Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite artists and I loved his song ‘Look Out for Detox’ so much I decided to do my own version of it last year. The lyrics I wrote follow the original version closely; One lyric in particular has offended a lot of people and for that, I apologize.
The artist’s lyric was: “when the relay starts I’m a runway slave”
My lyric was: “when the relay starts I’m a runaway slave…Master, shitting on the past gotta spit it like a pastor”
This is a metaphoric take on an originally literal lyric, and I was never trying to say I am a slave owner.
The intent was to say was that past histories have been mastered, or overcome, and that you may feel my line was ‘shitting on the past,’ just as many feel pastors shit on the bible or biblical history…although they mean no ill and just have their own take, hence the lyric ‘gotta spit it like a pastor.’
In all fairness, it was a tacky and careless thing to say and if you are offended, I am sorry.
Sometimes we get so caught up in our art and creating or trying to push boundaries, we don’t stop to think how others may be hurt by it. In this situation, I am guilty of doing that and I regret not thinking things through more.
I don’t hate any race of people, and it pains me to wake up to other young people being misled to believe I do. I am for unity and equality.
People should get a fair shot at whatever they want to do no matter what color they are; rap and hip hop as a culture is not exempt from this.
It is unfair to say other races who also grew up listening to rap don’t get a place too. We have a place and the Azaleans and myself are evidence of that fact. All people have a voice and equal right to use it.
In your lifetime you will say a lot of things you will wish you hadn’t too. I have to have my poor choice of words live with me forever on the internet.
Please know that I have grown from this and hope to have your continued support in life and my mission of bridging the gap.
As one of my lovely azaleans said last week: we are the prototype and far beyond the stereotype.
Love always,
Iggamonster.”

I don’t think she’s racist either. But she definitely doesn’t deserve a pass.
You want to carve out your place in hip-hop, fine, but don’t give me that stuff about fair and unfair with respect to race.

I don’t think she deserves a pass. She deserves every bit of scrutinizing that her lyrics have brought her. When a white rapper says “When the relay starts i’m a runaway slave…master” and then makes a whipping motion with her hand, I question her lack of awareness that some people might take offense.
With regards to intent, you can say racist things and not know or intend for it to be offensive, but your failure to recognize it as such does not negate the harm that your words (and actions) may cause.
She fucked up, and I don’t think anyone is being unfair in raising a flag.

Yeah, Iggy says reckless things then runs and hides behind that Coon/runaways slave T.I. So in a way she is a runaway slave master. I wouldn’t be surprised if a black person ghost wrote that line for Iggy. Think about it. Would a white woman in a predominately black industry be crazy enough to write a line like that on her own? No.

The whole Iggy movement is slick and I don’t mean that in a good way. It was very strategic of TIP to comment on the beef between Iggy and Banks. Think about it. If Iggy responded, she make a lot of black women very angry, thus causing her to lose credibility with black fans. If she does have the support of black fans then she’s just another Vanilla Ice. Second, has anyone read the lyrics to My World by Iggy. She says some subliminally racist shit. Like the line where she says ” people in the gutter saying she the other color. Me and your man secrete agents we under covers.” If you break it down, Iggy’s saying, look you black bitches. I know I’m a white woman in a predominately black genre. So while you’re sitting around complaining about me being a white bitch, your black boyfriend is secretly plotting to fuck this white bitch. Cause we all know how much niggas like blond white women with big asses. Just saying.

I meant to say if she does NOT have the support of black fans, then she is just another Vanilla Ice. Like or not Eminem and Yella Wolf all had to come through black people before they were taken seriously.

Oh man, Iggy shows so much disrespect to the hip hop scene in Australia in that video, most rappers in Australia dont do rap to get on MTV in America, what a lame attitude, there is some unbelievable rap talent here who dont have to put on a fake accent to remain true to themselves and join commercial , industry types to craft an image for themselves,

This is some funny stuff, people don’t even know the history of Australians, they’re pretty racist out there. Iggy Azalea should’ve been smart enough to know she can’t say that, the apology was something like what an apology would look like from FOX’s Hannity… I’m not a foolish black person, but many of these comments make me realize black americans will always be slaves and stuck in slave mentality so they can feel equal and accepted by white people that just see the dollar value in their idiocy
