Hot 97 Summer Jam 2011 Recap: More Performance Footage, Photos & Reviews
Posted by Mr.North under behind the scenes , concerts , performances , photos[23] Comments
If you asked any hip hop head in attendance at last night’s Summer Jam spectacle they’d probably say the best set award went to Lloyd Banks. Giving fans a balance of his past classics and new hits Blue Hef had a few surprises for the 50,000 plus in attendance as he brought out Mobb Deep, Swizz Beatz, Ryan Leslie, Fabolous, Lloyd & Jeremih. Even the NewYorkTimes mentioned Banks as an aritst “who may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York” following that memorable moment. Above, watch as he performs “Start It Up” (sans Kanye) with Swizz Beatz, Ryan Leslie & Fabolous. Many were wondering where 50 Cent was since his stadium ban after Summer Jam 2004 applied to a different arena, but it looks like he was busy.

Thanks for appreciating the detail, yall. I’ve actually been sitting on that tee for a couple months, wanted to save it for the right occasion. I copped it at small shop in Austin during SXSW… but I don’t know if I’m ready to give up the shop and designer yet, ahaha persuade me!

Lloyd Banks FTW!!! Seriously, he set the bar in a huuuge way for the night as far as guest appearances go. I would say best highlights were Banks, Mobb Deep, Breezy, Drake, Busta, then Wayne in that order.
BTW, Dipset did absolutely nothing for me. Why they continue to get invited in some shape, way, or form to Summer Jams year after year is a wonder to me. If they wanted someone relevant to rep the streets (not mainstream music), they could’ve toyed with a few other options.

Yeah BANKSSS pretty much did it on dem. A couple so call bigger names were there and they didn’t even came close. I listen to hot 97 morning show on my way to work every morning and were hyping Ross and Wayne so much it was crazy. I’m listening to and saying to myself they’re acting banks don’t have a resume…Have a album that did 3-4 mil, world tours, sell out stadiums. That’s what you get for sleeping on BANKSSSSSSSS……

I think the fact that the mainstream media is sleeping on banks so much has a little to do with who he’s associated with…I could be dead wrong but to see someone work an independent album so hard and receive so much critical acclaim and still have to fight for recognition is a testiment to industry politics..
people really forget all the past success this dude has had…and granted it was a different time with the state of music but to completely ignore it as if newer artists are bigger (not hot for the moment) but bigger…I just shake my head…pause!!

Banks has always been a problem, he just needed some breathing room from 50 and I think 50 knew that. If you notice, he has def taken a step back and let that man do him. He didnt even show up to summer jam and I think that was important because everyone would have bin talking about him instead of Banks performance. But truth be told, Banks is all kinds of talent and mo-fukkas could only ignore that shit for so long.
