Honestly, people…this imaginary Drake Tupac-slight is so stupid
Posted by Miss Info under about miss info , not good for hip hop , not good for me , quotes , ugh , videos[65] Comments
Its little things like this that make me litter in public and curse like a sailor to customer service phone operators. Just keeps me in a constant state of agita.
The guy says in the song “Fear,”: “I never cried when Pac died/But I probably will when Hov does/ And if my tears hold value, then I would drop one for every single thing he showed us/ And I’ll be standing in a puddle”
How in the flying fudge does that turn into a big debate about whether Drake loogied on the hallowed ground of Tupac Amaru Shakur’s grave? Are people idiots? No….*breathe*….they’re all just bored (or they’re desperate to entertain the people who are just bored).
So now we have to hear this insipid explanation of the line. “I was 9 when that happened, so it didn’t really affect me.” Right. Duh! He didn’t say he did the Superbowl Shuffle when Pac passed? This guy Drake has more patience than I.

Stop coppin pleas for Drake Miss Info. It’s just in bad taste to mention Pac like that. It would been the same reaction from people if he mention Pun, Big L, JMJ, Scott La Rock, etc. Just don’t say that. It was a stupid line. We get it. He likes Jay-z, but that was a horrible analogy.

@hL did you really listen to the message or did you just skim through it. the kid was 9 when Pac died. He grew up in the Post Pac/Biggie era. Its like when Bob Marley died most(some) of just weren’t old enough to actually be affected by his money or what he stood for. the Guy just showed his age in that line. REMEMBER WE DON’T HAVE TO BE SO SENSITIVE WITH THINGS. RELAX IT WILL BE OK…(walking away from the computer now)

Damn I was just as young as Drake when Pac died. I don’t remeber crying but, I was horrified and was in disbelief. I remeber becoming a serious 2Pac fan after watching “Juice,” before that I was an NWA fan and a Snoop Dogg fan, the 1st cassette I bought was “Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z” favorite song was “I Get Around” It is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnDR8OngS1U
I remeber seeing the BMW all shot up in the news and listening to his records on radio just like when MJ died.
Pac to me is the greatest MC of all time and I don’t find Drake’s line offensive in anyway. That’s like saying Pac’s death affected me more than when BIG died, is that a diss, it’s just the truth.
I became a BIG fan shortly after Pac died. I used to listen to BIG but never gave him the props he deserved. When I got older and got educated on some street knowledge then I was like damn Biggie is the 2nd the greatest MC I was clued up on females before the hustler’s ambition sh!t.

No one with a brain would get upset at that line. This is one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read. Even in the beginning of the line, in anticipation of peoples stupidity, he says “don’t take this the wrong way.” Some morons, however, apparently, did. Exactly what he said in the explaination (which is sad that some people need one) is exactly what I gathered from the song when I heard it; he was too young then to have an emotional reaction to Pacs death and he’s new to the game. That’s it.
This is why people say hip-hop is dead, lyrics have to be dumbed down for people that just don’t get a damn thing.

Do they listen to music or do they just skim through it? (c) Jay-Z
Why won’t they let Drake be great?
People are going to have to realize is that as hip hop ages and the distance between Pac & Big’s murders become wider, the more disconnected the new era of rap artists will be to those legends. It doesn’t mean that they can’t be educated on their impact on the game and their influence. But believe it or not, not everyone is a Tupac fan and people are going to have to accept it. I’m not a 2Pac fan, I like a few records but if I had a choice, I would rather listen to Big. Believe it or not there were hip hop artists who never engaged anyone in lyrical jousting in the game and just made good music for eveyone to enjoy. Drake is just a newer version of those artists. Save all of the inflammatory remarks for those that relish it ie: 50 Cent.

bad taste? Miss Info, don’t even pay this shit no mind. The fact that he has to “explain” everyone of his songs like the meaning isn’t right the fuck there is beyond me.
he will rap in successful about having to get something from his car, finding his mom about to leave and they shared a cry. Then MTV has to drop an explanation: “see, I was going to go to the club, but forgot some shit int he car. Now, when I got to the car, my mom was sitting in it…”
its stupid.

it makes me wonder, who is the idiot: Drake for explaining EVERYTHING, or the idiot who feels there’s some deeper meaning in Drake’s bars.
The thing I like about Drake is that you can understand everything he says – he rhymes clearly, and its not sugar coated or metaphor’d up. It’s not like deciphering Jay lyrics or something. It’s not that deep.
Silly shit. Hell, I didn’t cry when Pac died.

Anyone that thinks he was dissing Pac is just silly. when i heard that line i understood exactly what he meant because come to think of it i’d feel the same. I was only 8 when Pac died so the impact of his death weren’t that big on me at the time, but if Jay-Z died now i’d be upset cos i’m living in that music. does that mean i hate pac? thats just silly!

i mean i aint cry when neither one of them died and i was 12 (fully aware of their impact)! but i didnt cry not cause i didn’t love their music ( i truly did)…i aint cry just cuz its hard for me to do so,period! but the way drake said it on that song, though blown a wee bit out of proportion, came off like “eh dude died, SO WHAT!”…I PROMISE YOU HE WOULDN’T HAVE THE GALL TO SAY THAT SAME LINE ABOUT THE MAN “HE WOULD CRY FOR’S GOOD FRIEND (RIP)!” GUARANTEE IT!

The way he said it in the song was a statement of fact. You and others want to add shit into it for some reason to justify not getting it. He did not make it seem like “eh, dude died, SO WHAT!”. The song is called fear. It’s about people being suspicious of him in this game and not being able to cosign him because they think he doesnt have a real connection to it. By even mentioning Pac he’s acknowledging his impact but saying he just wasn’t old enough to appreciate it but he does have the capacity to do so and does have a connection to the game hence him mentioning Jay.
Now I have to go find the next comment. Peace.

What a lot of people are not understanding is what the line really means (miss info included). When you have to listen to an artist interpret their own work in order to clarify what they were really trying to express. That’s a sign of failure, period!
What he said was fine from a personal perspective. He knew what he meant, but he failed to take in the fact that there are people out there who listen to his music that would never put Pac and Jay in the same category, regardless of the generation gap.
The minute he said I didn’t shed a tear for Pac but I would shed a puddle for Jay. I knew what he meant but I also know where I was when Pac died and how Angie was on Hot97 shedding tears that Friday night.
It’s not about Drake hating Pac, its about placing them in the same league/category. For example, I would never compare MLK to Malik Shabazz or Angela Davis to Rosa Parks, Nat Turner to Larry Davis, the list goes on and on……

But isn’t it Drake’s right to compare them in whatever way makes sense to him? Is he supposed to take public opinion into his expression.
I’m not defending the line but technically everyone one of us has people we put in certain groups that others may not agree with. So isn’t a lost cause to try and not piss off people?

Drake did fine. The only failure is on the part of those that need an explaination. No one with a brain needs him to explain what he meant. His only failure was having faith that people wouldn’t be that dumb.
He’s not comparing the 2. Pac and Jay transcend hip-hop period. The impact Pac had on you is the impact Jay had on him period. He’s not saying they did it in the same way, he’s saying he knows how someone you don’t even know can impact you to the point of having an emotional attachment to them. If you want to put someone on a throne to the point of them never being mentioned in the same breath with someone else, that’s your issue, not his.
On to the next comment.

Yeah… this is really some ol’ ra-tarded craziness at this point. Has it really gotten so bad that Drake actually has to give repeated explanations for something that should be so obvious?
And will people stop with all the Malcolm X shit? I mean, props to ‘Pac all day but good got-damn, you would think he did something for humanity other than ‘All Eyez On Me’.
People are really upset over a dude sayin’ that at 9 years old he didn’t feel the full effect of someone’s death, and will probably feel more of an effect from the death of someone whose music he grew up with… I’d like to ask these same sensitive muhfukkas whether they cried when Marvin Gaye died.

Fam no one is upset, just looking at Drake side-ways for the ignorant verse he wrote.
Let me ask you this, did you know about the beef Pac had with Jay, B.I.G. and Nas? And why he had beef with them?
If you honestly have to ask why anyone is mentioning Malcolm X, I suggest you read his autobiography and while you’re at it, do the knowledge to Pac’s life.
There’s a reason why America celebrates MLK legacy and not Malik Shabazz’s.

if you cry when Jay-Z dies you are a lame. What song touched you more? Big Pimpin or Money Cash Hoes? If anyone doesn’t think that line wasn’t gonna cause a stormy debate, they are jokers and in denial.
When Pac went at Jay-Z, he was silent. Could you imagine Jay goin at Pac? Pac would have ate him. And say I’m lying, because I striclty remember Hot97 bumpin Hit Em Up regularly. It would have been career suicide. Jay didn’t even want it with Nas or Mobb at that point.

seriously, its ridiculous that people are getting upset about a line which their too close minded to understand. EVERYONE (including drake) knows that pac was a huge impact in the game. Just because he said he didn’t cry doesnt mean that he doesnt like him, he doesnt think he was a legend and it certanly doesnt mean that drake believes that Pac wasnt as good as BIG. Who cares if he did anyways, its his opinion regardless. And on top of that, he’s not even saying that Tupac sucked, he’s just stating a metaphor that simply displays him being a baby to the rap game. People are way too sensitive these days.
