It’s no secret that I am a die-hard Wu Tang Clan fan. I’ve championed Ghost and Rza and Rae and Genius and Meth for not just their music but also, the fact that they bring character to the game that’s rare-to-non-existent nowadays. So nobody cling more to the possibility of a true Wu reunion or a purple tape 2 like me.
That said…
Last week Ghostface reached out. There will be some shocking statements on the state of the Wu this week. Make sure you check my boys over at MTV News tomorrow for their legendary Mixtape Monday Report. Ghostface makes a serious allegation about some Wu finances. (click here on Monday to read Shaheem, Rahman and Jayson’s scoop.)
And in a related dispute, if the Dec. 4th release date for both the new Wu-Tang album, “8 Diagrams,” and the new Ghost album, “Big Dough Rehab,” seemed a bit strange, your gut instinct was right. Ghost calls it “sabotage” and charges “Wu Tang the brand.” When I asked him specifically, what constitutes “the brand” he wanted to make sure I understood that he didn’t mean the other group members. He named only Rza, Divine, and Loud.
sigh.
I will bring you more of Ghost and Rae’s very heartfelt words. But I also want to reach out to Rza for a reaction. I know lots of fans hope for the best, but each man is entitled to his say.
UPDATE: here is an excerpt from the Mixtape Monday item by Jayson R.
“I had December 4 for the longest,” he explained. “But the Wu album, brothers was kinda late on doing whatever they were doing and pushed it back … on my date. You can put this in there, I’m not [mad at] all the members. It’s not based on the members, but the hierarchy at Wu-Tang Clan is on some bullsh–. They trying to f— around and make me push my album back and doing all this. But n—as ain’t f—ing around or give us money when we did them Wu-Tang tours. The first one, they paid us after a while, but this last one, n—as is holding onto a lot of money. And [they're] upset based on that. It’s a battle right now…
As far as Ghost’s participation on The 8 Diagrams, though, so far he’s only jumped on a handful of tracks.
“I got on some of them,” he said. “A few of them. … N—as better pay my f—ing money. Matter of fact, they can keep the money — just get me out of their life right now.“

HEY U KNOW WHAT BIZNESS IS BIZNESS…. I ACTUALLY THINK IT IS GOOD FOR BOTH GHOST AND WU… PEEP IT, IT ‘S A WIN WIN SITUATION FOR GHOST… AFTER ALL HE IS ON BOTH ALBUM’S… SO TO STILL BE RELEVANT IN HIP HOP 14 YEARS LATER IS ABOVE AND BEYOND A ACCOMPLISMENT… THERE SHE BE NO HARD FEELING… I ACTUALLY THINK IT WILL HELP GHOST’S SALES RATHER THEN HURT THEM… LET’S BE FRANK HE WON’T BE DOING 50 OR KANYE NUMBERS … HE NEVER DID… BUT IF THE WU ALBUM IS INCREDABLE(I REALLY HOPE IT IS) THEN ITS GOOD BIZNESS….AND I’M A BIGGER GHOST FAN THAN A WU FAN!!!!!!!

Goddammit…do you have ANY good news to report? this sucks , yo. The optimist in me was hoping that Starks dropping on the same day as WTC was gonna be more of a cross-promotional 50/Kanye type of deal. This is gonna taint the release of “8 Diagrams”. My listeing experience is gonna be skewed knowing that Ghost felt some way about the business deallings with Wu.
And somebody at Def Jam gave the 12/4 release date a green light, so obviously at least a few people wanna see a conflict.

True, i agree with you there, Ghost will be benefitting from the sales of both albums simultaneously. And, obviously, they are stlll relevant after all this time, otherwise Miss Info wouldn’t be blogging about them, and you & I wouldn’t be commenting about it….not to mention the shows rocked this past summer like Rock The Bells and The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival…
I’m just a little salty that the original chemistry isn’t there. Money fucks up all sorts of relationships…what else is new?

Its sad when brothers get in the game and pull the same tricks the old white (sorry but true) record exces pull.
RZA give Ghost his full publishing or do whateva u gotta do to make the finances right. I dont even wanna hear this 8 diagrams album cause i know its only gonna ruin my memory of WTC.
RZA gotta give ppl their $$$ so that we can get at least 1 more complete WTC album…not no rushed sh*t with GFK on 1 or 2 songs.

Wow…this is discouraging. Money strikes again…it F’s up the best of friends, marriages, companies, and even the best of hip-hop groups. This truly a shame. Lets just hope the material on both is great and serves the fans of the WU well, because it looks like this will truly be the last of a great thing…

Why brothers can’t just share the pot man? Does it always have to be like this in the end?

Re-unions don’t really work out or live up to the expectation, I think the Wu members should continue doing wht they are doing on their own and work with each other organically and not forced due to public demand.
I think Meth is a better solo artist than a group member anyway. RZA is doing his deals plus is part of big budget movie productions why cant he let everybody else eat.
You cant make money with friends these days its best to work with people you wouldn’t mind punching in the face if things went wrong.
This is D-Block Vs.J-Hood all over again I watched dude on youtube videos and felt like I got more money than dude even though the ventures available to him as a recording artist should give a different result.
I’d rather sign with Suge coz atleast I know wht to expect.
