HA: Kids say the darnedest things….like Polow da Don is a Garageband producer?
Posted by Miss Info under hmmm....? , laugh at , lightbulb , new music , not good for hip hop , videos[35] Comments
I’m not a production-expert, but I get the feeling that the fact that this kid found the Polow Da Don beat for Usher’s “Love in the Club” pre-made on his Mac’s Garageband program…..is not a good look? Correct me if I’m wrong.
Maybe alot of producers make magic from those ready-made loops?
(And, all those classic “bossa nova” pre-sets on the Casio keyboards have already been sampled, right?)

Damn … can’t relate this to food.
But, I am a Garageband producer as a hobby and I hear these loops being used everywhere – TV commercials and from some of these so-called “superproducers”.
I didn’t pick up on this one right away, but the first time I heard the song, I was not impressed at all because it sounded like a really simple two-track loop.
I’m not hatin’, though, I hope Polow charged Usher a grip for that beat.

Cut & Paste=Sampling. Its just like taking samples from old records. And a lot of producers do use presets. It is a big surprise though because I believe Polow has a team of producers. So I didnt think they were taking presets from Garageband. Guess I’m wrong.

Not surprising, really. Producers use presets on pretty much every machine they have ever touched. The only person hurt by this is going to be Usher, he’s gonna be pissed when he sees how much work went into the thousands he spent on that track, haha

if you can make money off a simple garage band beat, all the more power to you

This beat is garbage, it soundz like some corny geraman pop song and this shit is going to destroy my ears for some weeks I guess, coz it’s so wack that it will deffinitely be a hit. And now I see it’s made from template loops. What kind of producer sells beat made from such loops? This is SO WACK.

I’ve got two here:
1) The early Ruff Ryders stuff that Swizz Beats did were clearly casio presets and/or Nokia ringtones
2) Man, I need a Mac.

swizz beats used casio presets back in the first ruff ryder era, or so they say.

@ thegirl: is that a rhetorical question?
It makes me wonder:
Is there a double standard when it comes to our expectations of musicianship in regards to hip-hop versus R&B?
This type of “studio” fuckery gets a pass when it comes to rap, but R&B…? I dunno…I always thought crafting a good song was a process that was a bit more involved and was more of a “collaborative” affair…music-making is so “masturbatory” (read: solo) nowadays…
Info…was it something I did that prompted this post…? =)

hey, does anyone remember how usher paid for a beat from lil jon but jon gave it to petey paolo (freak-a-leek), so he had to come up with something real quick (yeah)?

DO YOU GUYS NOT KNOW WHO POLOW DA DON IS?
THIS MAN HAS PRODUCED GRAMMY WINNING SONGS! THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH USING GARAGE BAND, AND THERES ALOT MORE CREATIVE WORK THAT GOES INTO PRODUCING THAN U THINK. DONT GET IT TWISTED POLLOW DA DON MAKES HITS! HATE ALL YOU WANT, SUPERPRODUCERS LIKE POLOW GET PAID FOR THERE TRACKS AND THE RESULT IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. DO YOU REALLY CARE IF ELEMENTS OF THE SONG WAS FROM GARAGE BAND? OR DO YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT HOW MUCH OF A BANGER THE SONG IS!?!

Word to MELROSE … Polow probably got a team of ghost producers. I’m sure all the other “Super Producers” got teams also. Puffy’s Hitmen, Dre had Scott Storch, Timbaland had Danjah, Kanye talks about how he ghost-produced for D-Dot and other producers. Kanye even admits he didn’t produce “Down and Out”.
And for the record, this beat is wack. Nothing wrong with Garageband

Ha, never would of thought they would use obvious presets like that. I never liked this song from day one. It is sad that it’s a chart topper, because it is a very sub-par song. I thought it was gay robot techno when I first heard it. Usher keeping it hood, don’t you have a baby to attend to and a succubus? But what do I know, I’m just a consumer.

2 things:
i wonder where mac stands on all this…should be used in a commercial for Garage Band…recoup sucka
it really is just sampling…he did only use 2 presets, the drums are where the talent mostly lies in that joint, and id be surprised if GB had anything close to those preset. On the other hand, its nice when producers take time to chop and lay samples.
Usher’s gotta feel somewhat chumpy
