Also, the commentary is on point, so no riot act being read over here : ) Its not so much a matter of whether or not I think he’s a emcee for the ages, but its similar to 1997. If you were doing a list then, you could not deny the temperature of Master P.
Now lets see who remains: Drake, Weezy, Kanye, Hov, Eminem, Slaughterhouse, Ghostface….

You know honestly… I have to agree with the list so far… Because of the word “Hot” Gucci movement is building, don’t think Jeezy is peeking right now, actually he is on the downside of his career!! Last album was his peak.. So him and 50 can swap spots, Fab’s albim was dope for the first 6-7 tracks and after that it was 808’s and Heart break and while I think he belongs on the list he can also swap with 50 but Gucci while he’s nothing more than a southern ODB with less talent his movement is gaining some steam right now and the LIFE of his movement is pretty enthusiastic so based on “HOT” alone I’d give that to him..
I guess that would make me top three HOT at the moment 1. Lil Wayne 2. Sean 3.Eminem based on HOT RIGHT NOW and steady movement… If Em does more press and shows he’d be over Sean!!

why does these lists always consist of “Hot” what about “Nice” I mean when did we skip past content and go with how many songs you on or how many times you are googled. Do you see why MTV lost its credability with the people. I mean how could they talk about “Hot” Rappers when they don’t even have a show just for Hip Hop! Something is very wrong here(like the big fat woman with the little man). Hip Hop politics are ugly.. Nas drops Illmatic, Jay-Z drops Reasonable Doubt nothing more than an illmatic clone with a ton of guest.. Big dies Puffy brings mase and flamboyance to the game Jay copies that with party music and hates on Mase, that gets lame he steals the Wu style and add Beans and State Prop, does the big crew dynasty thing decides thats not going to help him crossover and sell like Shady does, dumps the thugs and steals the backpacker Kanye from Dame so he can appeal to that subset of sneaker heads and hip hop purest and be accepted for being a punk and crossing over.. Steals Dame entire business model including companies he built like rockafella and rocaware boots dame.. Dame gets ready to drop his Harlem documentary and Jay-Z just decides to do an album inspired by American Gangsta, now Dame is preping this BlacRoc project and Jay-Z is talking about how his next album is going to be very alternative and different!! And this is the best dude in Hip Hop? WHO THE FUCK IS JAY Z? I bet he doesnt even know!!

I think they’re probably a factor because they’re able to accomplish sales on a totally indie album with no radio play and while I thought the sales were superlow, record label execs that I respect tell me, those small #s made alot of them stand up and take notice. There’s the high profile controversies (just Joe really) and the big web presence and constant touring (which wouldnt happen if ppl weren’t paying to see them), and then the Eminem negotiations….
all that adds up…to….once again: temperature.

the list is the HOTTEST in the game to MTV. while some execs like the album sale they achieved with no radio play, you have to get radio play to be hot. there are still lots of people that still don’t know who slaughterhouse is. I had to put some onto slaugherhouse and they wasn’t running to buy the album.

If you live in the tri-state area, especially NY (still the home of the spitters (c) Jay-Z), Gucci Mane is probably not going to be your favorite on on your radar. But once you start traveling around the US, then you will see how strong his following is. Is he lyrical, no. Sometimes you just can’t explain someone’s popularity. Young Jezzy was never one of my favorites but over time he just kept coming with the hits and over a period of time he won me over. This is the same argument people had about Da Snowman. Only time will tell. The top 5 will include Drake, Wayne, Kanye, Jay-Z and Eminem. Just don’t know what the order will be. Kanye maybe the only interchangable artist on the list. Everyone else is a definite lock. Everyone else that you mention I’m sure will get some sort of honorable mention. Slaughterhouse will cancel each other out. As much as I love Ghost, he just dropped his CD a few days ago and his internet campaign wasn’t as strong as others. I like Def Jam but sometimes I wonder if they know how to market & promote someone like Starks. But that is for another post.
PS – Sorry for Chicago losing out on hosting the Olympics. City could sure use some good news now.

not in 1997. that was around 3/10 mark of his path. Please note…I keep saying temperature. Not overall body of work, or impact on the craft. Those are not really issues with this guy. Its a phenomenon, and unlike the massive takeover that No Limit made on the industry in the late 90s….Gucci is not a movement, just a guy who will peak in popularity, do well, and then fade away.

My problem is they call it the “hottest MC in the game” and use that to justify their picks and keep it going but it’s clearly not about that. It’s not about who is the hottest or who has the most exposure man. They should not be co-signing this garbage. Gucci Mane does not belong on a list with Chef, I don’t care what the criteria is. He does not belong on a list with Jay-Z, under no circumstances should anyone respected on any level of the game be debating why Gucci Mane should be included on any list except top 10 cats who need to apply for a UPS job.
MTV is blatantly trying to re-route the direction of the music and seem like they’re connected to something they’ve been detached from for years.

I expect the list to be pretty predictable from here on out. Not gonna let myself get too worked up over Gucci. There’s always 1 questionable by “MCin’” artist on the list.
Folk said the same thing for Jim Jones. He was HOT but no one would call him a word smith. It is what it is.

Gucci Mane definitely deserved to be on this list.Gucci has a buzz right now similar to Young Jeezy’s buzz back in 04. He may not be the most lyrical, but he’s very catchy, charismatic! & He knows how to make songs! that appeal to both sides..street & commercial!..Im not mad at this pick at all. & I’m from Brooklyn!…this is an unbiased opinion

What I think is wrong with MTV doing lists like these is it puts rappers in the same category as MC’s. Now everybody who’s just a casual listener of Hip Hop music will see this list and associate ‘Gucci Mane’ with ‘MC’. Now for a Hip Hop fan like me, that’s hilarious. But that’s why Hip Hop ain’t the same no more cuz we don’t do enough to distinguish the difference between a rapper and an MC to the general public. This list should be re-titled to “Top 10 Hottest Rappers”.
Freestyling is a lost art in Hip Hop…I think we will be seeing MC’ing in there soon as well.

I think the majority of the people hating on the list are 50 fans who of course think he deserves to be #1 as always..Outside of the tri-state area , 50 isnt played all day everyday, hes not even mentioned or worried about untill he comes out with a song and then ok he gets played for a week then its no more..I can see why all of his loyal fans would expect him 2 be higher ..But whos hot right now u can go all across the country North ,South, East, West and hear a Gucci Mane song

You’re right in a sense, but there’s a reason why 50 doesn’t sell less than 10 million in the U.S. AND WORLDWIDE, and these other artist who are “hot right now” don’t sell 1/10th of that. Cuz they are the ones who sizzle out and 50 gets played all over. (I was just in Texas for the Cowboys game, and best believe 50 was getting play on the radio.)
