Genius Moment: Outkast’s Art of Storytelling Pt4
Posted by Miss Info under good for hip hop , new music , quotes[15] Comments
Some emcees repeat their “hot” lines to make sure you catch them. Other emcees get their lines repeated because they’re so hot.
Thank you Outkast….
And I love that XXlmag’s Noz transcribed Andre’s verse….here’s a tidbit:
this old lady told me if I ain’t got nothing good say naythin
that’s why I don’t talk much
I swear it don’t cost much
to pay attention to me
I tell it how it is then how it could be
the hood be
requesting my services
oh don’t get nervous it’s
step your game up time
these ain’t them same old rhymes
designed to have you dancing in some club

You see….this is what happens when u have 2 rappers who actually take pride in their craft. They continue to deliver quality music no matter how long they’ve been off the scene.
Attn rappers:
EVERY1 CAN’T RUN A LABEL….SOME OF U ABSOULTELY SUCK AS BUSINESSMEN….spend more time perfecting ur craft….AND STOP SIGNING UR WACK ASS CHILDHOOD FRIENDS TO UR LABEL IMPRINTS…sign ppl that actually have talent adn who the consumers want to hear.

I think cats like Andre 3000/Eminem/Kanye/Wayne vs other types of rappers is kind of like impressionist painters vs realist painters (stick with me on this one Info, i promise it’ll make sense)
Realist painters portray an image as it is, and we are amazed at the precision with which some of them can portray the image. With impressionists, the image is important, but we are also impressed by the way they create the picture.
With Andre, he uses words like paint. The overall picture is impressive, but the brush strokes are just as important.
(feel free not to post the comment if i am not making sense)

Believe me, I don’t co-sign a lot of what Wayne does, but when he’s on the right drugs he has some serious skill with flipping words. like here:

But Dre 3000 deserves a lot of credit for looking strange, not talking guns, diamonds and hoes, and still making people respect the undeniable lyrical skills.

3000 is ice cold, too cold…
definitely an Artist, a word that is very loosely thrown around today but not personified in the bodies of work by many of these so-called artists`…
thankfully Artists like 3000 are afraid to grow and expand the genre….
ps. can’t wait to cop the new `Kast album…

@ 9, I can’t wait to cop the new 3 stacks album. Not really a fan of Big Boi… But 3 stacks does his thing. I wonder if we’re giving the guy too much credit right now tho… We did that to Nas a little while ago and not much came of it. We all said Nas was having his ‘genius moment’ (trademark m.i.) and then he just kind of lamed/wierded out on us. We did the same to Wayne a while ago and he’s gone batshit since. While I have more faith in Dre than Nas and Wayne, lets hold off on the crowning for now.

Dre may only drop a few verses a year but he kills them all.
‘International Player’s Anthem’
‘What a job’
‘You’ remix(not sure if that’s 06)
and now this.
But you’d be hard pressed to find a weak Dre verse. Definitely top 10 of all time, probably in my top 5. No fall off since 93/94 with the lyrics even if he does get his sing on now.
I had an opt. to see them in Big Boi’s hometown of Savannah, right after Aquemini dropped. I chose to see Goodie Mob instead the night before(cee-lo didn’t even show up.) Damn and now Dre doesn’t even tour.

3000 kills the new ‘art of storytellin’ track.. and overshadows big boi’s verse, which’s a lyrical master itself…

Yo post 2 – The Lone Gunner…
I hearing exactly what ya saying, everything about this track is sooo real, the trunpets killed me, I had to rewind the track sooo many times I swear it’s no lie…
300 is one of the realist painters, with so much crap flying around in hip hop right now, this track is like gold dust homie,… peep the story mode!….
“So I’m watchin’ her fine ass
Walk to my bedroom, and thought to myself
That’s the shape of things to come
She said, Why you in the club, you don’t make it precipitate?
You know, make it rain when you can make it thunderstorm
I’m like, Why?
The world needs sun
The hood needs funds
There’s a war going on and half the battle is guns
How dare I throw it on the floor
When people are poor
So I write like Edgar Allen to restore,…”
Go 3000!!!!! lol
So Refreshing!!!
