Genius Moment: Kanye West “Power” (first single off Good Ass Job) (Updated)
Posted by Miss Info under Genius Moment , Good For Hip Hop , Good For Me , Headcrack , New Music , Photos , Things I Love[148] Comments
YES!
New Music: Kanye West feat. Dwele “Power“ (co-produced by Symbolyc One and Kanye)
(props to Perajok for emailing at 5am, leaked by this mysterious microsite, see after the jump for details)
“No one man should have all that power…“
“Fuck SNL and they whole cast, tell ’em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass…“
“Colin Powers Austin Power, lost in translation with a whole fuckin’ nation. They say I was the abomination of a Obama’s nation, well that’s a pretty bad way to start a conversation. At the end of the day, Goddamnit, I’m chillin’ and shit. I know damn well y’all feelin’ this shit. I don’t need your p—y, bitch, I’m on my own dick….how Ye doing? I’m survivin’. I was drinking earlier, now I’m driving. Where the bad bitches, huh? Where y’all hiding? I got the power to make ya’ life, so excitin’.“
The genius of this is….the man takes a sabbatical, a hiatus, a break. The mainstream thinks he is going on a self-inflicted punishment, lol…..and he comes back from paradise flipping’ the bird at the world.
I. Love. That. I don’t care about the wrongs and rights of the past. This song is knocking, and the energy is inspiring.
Now the weekend can finally start. With a real stank ‘sididdy attitude ; )
Lyrics, producer details, and more…after the jump….(UPDATED)
Notes:
-UPDATE 1: so FWMJ says that this beat was produced by his fellow Texan, Symbolyc One, and co-produced by Kanye West. S1 has worked with Illmind, is part of the StrangeFruit project, and is part of the Cannabanoids, which is Erykah Badu’s new production crew.
-UPDATE 2: I love that you readers are picking apart and correcting that lyric transcription below. There’s definitely some discrepancies, lol.
-UPDATE 3: Despite the misleading KanyeWestPower website that popped up at the crack of dawn, this is actually not an authorized release. “Power” is the official first single, but my sources say that a manhunt is on for whoever got the song and decided to release it this way. The song was supposed to come out on June 8th, via itunes.
-For all the beatminers out there: YN brought up the samples and producer Beewirks spotted a King Crimson “21st century Schizoid Man” sample. So that’s whats being said in the background, LOL. Holy sharp spidey ears! (apparently this song is also in Guitar Hero 5, lol….)
-This past weekend, Kanye was photographed in Soho by my friend William Yan, who is a fashion blogger. He was walking around without fanfare with manager Don C, and friend Virgil Abloh. Then he went to club CV where Scram Jones was spinning, and played a few new songs for the lucky crowd.
(via William Yan)
RockabyeReview already transcribed the lyrics: (but what’s a Dodie?)
I’m livin’ in the 21st century
Doin’ something mean to it
Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it
Screams from the ’80s, got a nice ring to it [clearly, thats “Haters” not “80s”, thanks readers!]
I guess every superhero need his own theme music
No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
(21st century schizoid man)
The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open
We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’fucka, we rollin’
Huh? Ma’fucka, we rollin’
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands
In this white man world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment
No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, fuck that, the world’s ours
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)
Fuck SNL and the whole cast
Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass
More specifically, they can kiss my asshole
I’m an asshole? You niggas got jugs [JOKES]
You short-minded niggas’ thoughts is Napoleon
My furs is Mongolian, my ice, brought the Dodies in [GOALIES]
Now I embody every characteristic of the egotistic
He know, he so, fuckin’ gifted
I just needed time alone, with my own thoughts
Got treasures in my mind, but couldn’t open up my own vault
My childlike creativity, purity and honesty
Is honestly being prodded by these grown thoughts [crowded]
Reality is catchin’ up with me
Takin’ my inner child, I’m fighting for it, custody
With these responsibilities that they entrusted me
As I look down at my dia-mond-encrusted piece
Nigga, no one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, fuck that, the world’s ours
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they
And then they (Go)
And then they (21st century schizoid man)
Holy, powers, Austin, Powers [Im sticking with my own version, Colin. Powers.]
Lost in translation with a whole fuckin’ nation
They say I was the obamanation of Obama’s nation
Well, that’s a pretty bad way to start the conversation
At the end of day, goddammit, I’m killin’ this shit
I know damn well y’all feelin’ this shit
I don’t need yo’ pussy, bitch, I’m on my own dick
I ain’t gotta power trip, who you goin’ home with?
How ‘Ye doin’? I’m survivin’
I was drinkin’ earlier, now I’m drivin’
Where the bad bitches, huh? Where ya hidin’?
I got the power, make yo’ life so excitin’ (So excitin’)
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go
Lettin’ everything go
You got the power to let power come

It’s been on repeat for 30 mins now.
May 28th, 2010 at 8:44 am
Lord Jesus…
Wait til this song is fully mixed and mastered. Kanye West is BEYOND genius. Say what you want about Ye but sonically, this man is unmatched. His ability to create these lush soundscapes and not just turn them into songs but THEMES is PERFECTION. Do ya’ll hear that track?!?!
May 28th, 2010 at 8:47 am
Yeah man. Yeezy is gonna kill ’em with this one. Do your thing, Ye. Bring back that ill hip hop!
May 28th, 2010 at 9:04 am
Ms. Info. Ya mans lyrics all wrong!
I’m an asshole? You niggas got jokes*
My furs is Mongolian, my ice, brought the goalies in*
Idiot.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:14 am
And this is why my I will never lose faith in hip-hop.
This is going to be played non-stop this weekend. Word to those light-skinned girls and those Kelly Rowlands.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:26 am

May 28th, 2010 at 9:35 am

May 28th, 2010 at 9:35 am
now thats how you start a morning off!!! SN: would it be too much to ask for a download link, or is that just me being ungrateful?!?!
May 28th, 2010 at 9:35 am
EGHHHH….*shrugs*
May 28th, 2010 at 9:37 am
“The genius of this is….the man takes a sabbatical, a hiatus, a break. The mainstream thinks he is going on a self-inflicted punishment, lol…..and he comes back from paradise flipping’ the bird at the world.”
Hmm im not so sure your analysis is correct he still sounds depressed to me, and there is some echoing of donny hathaway here.
“In this white man world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment”
“Now this’ll be a beautiful death
Jumpin’ out the window
Lettin’ everything go”
Sessions for a second album of duets were underway in 1979. On January 13 of that year, Hathaway began a recording session at which Eric Mercury and James Mtume were present. Mercury and Mtume each reported that although Hathaway’s voice sounded good, he began behaving irrationally, seeming to be paranoid and delusional. According to Mtume, Hathaway said that “white people” were trying to kill him and had connected his brain to a machine, for the purpose of stealing his music.[4] Given Hathaway’s behavior, Mercury said that he decided the recording session could not continue, so he aborted it and all of the musicians went home.[4]
Hours later, Hathaway was found dead on the sidewalk below the window of his 15th-floor room in New York’s Essex House hotel. The glass had been neatly removed from the window and there were no signs of struggle, leading investigators to rule Hathaway’s death a suicide.
Then again maybe Im just projecting. Im glad others feel uplifted by this song it makes me feel worried. Well isn’t that the hallmark of good music any way.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:38 am
Also im pretty sure he says trippin off the POWDER in the second hook.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:38 am
That line is “my ice, brought the goalies in”.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:45 am
This is mature hip hop. AWESOME
May 28th, 2010 at 9:46 am
what….WOW!!!!
May 28th, 2010 at 9:54 am
Miss Info, the lyrics are slightly wrong.
The part where it says “I’m an asshole? You niggas got jugs?”, he actually says “You niggas got jokes?” & he didn’t say “dodies”, he says “My furs is Mongolian, my ice, brought the goalies in.”
May 28th, 2010 at 9:56 am
you couldn’t have pointed this out differently?
**spoiled internet kids**
May 28th, 2010 at 9:59 am
yeah that is what I said but this is coming from the same man that said “and say something when you goin end up apologin” and “goodmorneanin look at the valedictorian”
May 28th, 2010 at 10:03 am
…Well you’re a Donnie Downer…
May 28th, 2010 at 10:07 am
What can I say. I actually liked 808’s I was waiting for rap to go full on shoegaze
May 28th, 2010 at 10:07 am
LOL I agree….and I love the fact that you guys are able to correct the lines. Also, Im sticking with my original transcription of the Austin Powers line. I hear “Colin. Powers. Austin. Powers….” I don’t hear “Holy Powers” and it would be more consistent to have 2 names there. Esp because Kanye would do some s–t like say Colin Powers as a twist on Colin Powell…..but then again, who knows. I’m def going with “goalies”…..
May 28th, 2010 at 10:10 am
He’s not an idiot. He just can’t hear. Im sorry buddy.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:14 am
your right it is colin powers as a twist on colin powell then he brings up obama’s nation (it all fits)
hot song. only ye could comeback and still be an asshole….good ass job
May 28th, 2010 at 10:17 am
smart move Ye to put this out on the big BBQ weekend.
nothin goes better with a BBQ than Sacred Stitch Clothing

Style Is Sacred Once Again in 2010
May 28th, 2010 at 10:17 am
I’m glad he’s back…
May 28th, 2010 at 10:23 am
waited awhile to say this…but he is definitely THE best rapper(writes his own rhymes)/producer(could bring sum debate due to his collaboration tracks as of late) in the past 10 years, hands down.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:29 am
yeah. the D.Hathaway death still runs through my mind. they said the same about my close friend. and there were flaws 2 his “suicide” as well. dont know bout Ye’. just cant foresee that tho. then again, anything is possible.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:36 am
Yeah what you said to the 10th power!
May 28th, 2010 at 10:39 am
Crap.
I am a Kanye fan. And this song sucks! His verses are mediocre. Kanye is a “lyrical wordsmith” haha and this song is not up to par.
I want College dropout Kanye. or LAte registration Kanye. maybe even Graduation Kanye. Back when he was HUNGRY!
Ever since his mom died his music turned to crap. Makes me sad.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:44 am
I like that Em and Ye are coming with brilliance to stop this Drake d-riding. esp Yeezy with his production game. He’s a cocky dude.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:49 am
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!……………..no literally. LOL
May 28th, 2010 at 10:53 am

May 28th, 2010 at 11:09 am
I guess it’s hard for real musicians to stack up against lyrical geniuses such as Waka Floka huh?

FIRE!!! & YES F-CK SNL AND THE WHOLE CAST!!!! Get some more black ppl, Kenan playing every black person is boring (not to mention inaccurate if the person is not fat)
May 28th, 2010 at 11:44 am
^You too? i have it open on another site and im strolling sites just to read the reactions and leave my own as i bump it over and over and over and over.
kanye is the most inspiring musician alive right now. if u think otherwise please dont bother tryna argue cuz i wont respond to your tomfoolery. lol.
May 28th, 2010 at 11:53 am
^no its not. ive been strolling for it for half an hour now. lol.
that being said id like to give MY definition of GOOD music (no pun intended).
There is an ongoing argument about what makes a “real” music fan. People say that you aren’t “real” if you download an artist’s music without paying for it. Well i personally think that is retarded. Music is JUST like any other product in the world. I want to know the quality of my product before i spend loot on it so if it doesn’t live up to my standard im not buying it, and the internet has giving us the ability to do just that.
Kanye is the DEFINITION of real music. AS SOON as this is available im going to download it so that i dont have to sit in front of my computer to enjoy it. ITs going on the ipod, in the car, and on cd so i can put a few people on to it. But because kanye is so damn good, once the album drops, im buying 2-3 copies. One will never be opened.
May 28th, 2010 at 11:57 am
^You’re not bright.
May 28th, 2010 at 11:59 am
Hey miss info, in the first few bars it should be:
“screams from THE HATERS, got a nice ring to it/.
his “superhero theme music” is the screams of the haters.
damn this nigga is clever.
May 28th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
^theres always one or two.
May 28th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
I meant @marco not u Hg*d
May 28th, 2010 at 12:21 pm
this song some huh?
off subject am i the only one who thinks it funny as hell that jamaica’s minister of tourism popped all that shit about drake’s find your love video cuz jamaica’s not about the gun culture any more and now the cops over there been shooting out with them niggas for days nows. drake should make that nigga apologize
May 28th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Wow………………
Period.
May 28th, 2010 at 12:27 pm
kanye is BAAAAAAAAACK. 🙂
May 28th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
GUESS HE WAS WATCHING MALCOLM X AND GOT INSPIRED… THE COP SAID THAT ABOUT MALCOLM AFTER HE GOT THE WORD THAT THE DUDE WHO GOT HIS ASS WHOOPED WOULD BE OK… “No one man should have all that power…“ *YAWN*
May 28th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Its scream from the haters, not 80s
May 28th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Screams from the ’80s, got a nice ring to it
Its “Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it”
May 28th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
On a scale 1-5 (5 being the best), I give this a 3.5, nothin’ too special, but better than average. Kayne is my guy though, and I beg anyone to argue that he isn’t a top fifteen if not top ten, dead or alive all time MC.
May 28th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
It’s OK I was expecting more for what I’ve been hearing everyone say about this album.
May 28th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Just wait till HOV drops a verse on this, cuz inevitably, he will.
May 28th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Do you think he worked that hard to stay the same? You won’t the old ‘ye by his old albums. As humans we evolve and and he has evolve, so either love it or leave it alone.
May 28th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
that song is pure… Fire
May 28th, 2010 at 2:09 pm
1st waka flocka sucks
2nd i expect better from kanye
May 28th, 2010 at 2:10 pm
because i dont like a song and i like his old flow better im not bright?
May 28th, 2010 at 2:13 pm
I completely agree with the evolution statement but its not on what I…keyword I… like to hear from kanye.. I love his old flow better this his new type of flow on his albums.
May 28th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
Why do you people have to break down every song to its minerals and bare components damn leave some mystery.
Miss Info I got crazy love for you but you should never just give samples away like that at least not on the first day of hearing it. it takes away from the excitement of digging and searching and allowing ones ear to get sharper …Thats my rant for today
May 28th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
regardless, he’s a gay fish
May 28th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
YESS Kanye west is back to his business. been missing this shitt right here

http://usershare.net/2hb6r4ypc70d
your welcome.
May 28th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Its sooo funny how just a few years ago Kanye and 50 were at the topof the hip hop world and now they are both struggling to be relevant! Although Kanye makes much better music depending on what you like he’s been replaced a bit by a few guys and 50’s been replaced by a lot of guys so it will be good to hear this Kanye album… It would be funny if 50 is on it lol it would be funny if he produce 50 next album…..
So odd this summer is looking like a great summer for music.. You have Drake, T.I., Kanye, Game all dropping this summer.. Who else am I missing..
Will be a good summer for music if we dont hear a peep out of that Uncle Tom!
May 28th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Like his big bro said “Niggas want my old shxt, buy my old albumsss”
This jawn is pure flamery, and this just the street single cuz you know his second singles are ALWAYS better than his first so LEGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
May 28th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
yeah i know i’m a hater…but the song is alright. beats there but doesn’t go all the way. the hooks in there and i like the dwele vocal on it but nothing. it feels a lot contrived and choppy, but it’s kanye and it’s already better than the garbage they play on the radio nowadays.
May 28th, 2010 at 2:45 pm
also the big FU is nice. i don’t know who thought kanye was wallowing around. he’s a guy who’s mind is 100 miles per hour. he’s always thinking. maybe this is to hype up a new record. it passes the good line but it doesn’t go all the way to awesome. it would be a good leak to set the stage i think for a new record. whoever leaked it with or without permission did a good job because it’s almost summer and it gets ahead of all the summer releases and the hype. good thinking.
May 28th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
um yeah miss info yeah
yeahh in the words of the devil this is fiireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
May 28th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
RIP Gary Coleman
May 28th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
I found it, and ill buy it just like all his others except for the last one!
May 28th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
No. not at all.
The reasons you’re not bright are because:
1. You described his verses as “mediocre?” Mediocre is average. Average would be 50% right? Pretty safe to say his verses are better than ATLEAST 90% of mainstream people doing it right now.
2. “Ever since his mom died his music turned to crap?” Kanye is evolving not devolving. You are in a sad sad minority to think his music is getting progressively WORSE?
I know that its typically wrong to say an OPINION is right or wrong, but i think that when the opinions are as far off as yours are, my “your not bright” is a pretty safe statement.
May 28th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
*Another lyric correction…
“…Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power” the second time he says “Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the powder”
May 28th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Whats so genius about this song?
Frankly I dont even think the song is that hot.
Genius? WTF?
May 28th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
yr definitely right about this. jay-z would kill the vibe on this one. saying some dumb shit.
May 28th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
The manchild is back. Just when you thought chipmunk cheeks went away.
May 28th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
this gets me very excited for everything else. i wonder if every track on the album will be co-produced the way this one is? since almost all the collabs we’ve heard about so far have been producers..
May 28th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Bahahha if your counting 808’s and heartbreak anything above average, I can’t take you serious and your not a hip hop head! His first 3 albums… Classic! 808’s….crap! His verses on other peoples songs go hard, but his OWN songs (love lockdown to power) or anything Post graduation I can’t mess with.
May 28th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
This Guy Never Dissapoints. The Taylor Swift Thing Had Me Giving Kanye The Side Eye. I Might Have To Un-Cross My $hit Soon….lol
May 28th, 2010 at 5:04 pm
kanye is back! hoss, put up the white women, they might get offended.
kanye west a.k.a the new andy warhol.
May 28th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
how come every time someone says they don’t like something, the next person has to say “oh you love waka flocka and soulja boy”
that shit is extremely annoying.
May 28th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
childish lol
May 28th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
meh.. pass. kanye is still the most interesting human being he knows.. im not interested in rich dude problems.. the productions ok. i do love that kanye is one of the VERY FEW hiphop producers that uses complex transitions and changes in the same song.. its not just a beat and sampled looped over and over again.
interested in hearing the rest of the album, but this songs just ok at best.
May 28th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
WTF?! kanye is not irrelevant..he just produced jay z’s whole album..What rock are you living under?
May 28th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Fresh track…suicidal tendencies?…we’ll see
May 28th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
the only thing that’s genius is how well Kanye has marketed himself to the point where anything he makes will be embraced as being genius.
May 28th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KANYE IS A BEAST!!!!!
May 28th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
interesting comment, mostly because I happen to be on the opposite side.
Rap NEEDS to get back to making interesting, dope loops so the MC can shine and truly say something. I think it’s hard to make a cohesive, memorable and classic loop, then produce the rapper to sound good over it.
All these transitions and changes we hear in hip POP come from pop music. If I want to listen to pop, I’ll listen to pop. but this is hip hop, dammit! I find that producers try to do what you describe and the VAST MAJORITY make over-produced beats that simply have no cohesion and usually sound terrible.
Good post, though. Who would you say has done the complex transitions well? I’m curious.
May 28th, 2010 at 6:59 pm
THANK YOU KANYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS SO DOPE…..
MY EARS ARE IN HEAVEN…..
May 28th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
i dont know if this east coast anuff its better then his tpain clown shit but i just seen that chick you love kat stacks get the shit smacked out of her on some twitter video thats gotta be a law suit really sad to, i cant come up wit suttin funny to say on that, damn dont ever tape yaself doin crimes retarded, bad anuff theres camera’s on every corner stupid mofo’s.
May 28th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
yeah i saw it. first off im disgusted. and secondly Im on the fence about giving it more shine. On the one hand I want to denounce it, but then again, I feel like the bitchasses in the video think they’re being gangsta, and Kat herself doesnt seem to understand how she’s created this problem and how its really foul to be beat up by men. Add that to the fact that Bow Wow and possibly Fab are connected to these tard losers who assault someone on camera….and I’m just like…how pathetic.

i get what ur saying. but i think hip hop evolves. from boombap, to jazz and soul samples, to drum and bass, etc. everything should be represented. its just as refreshing to hear a classic premier beat as a classic kanye beat.
its interesting that you use the term “pop” because thats my beef too. but its not the SOUND that makes pop bad imo. its that every producer is chasing the same pop flavor of the moment. so when lil john gets crunk, everybody gets crunk.. when tpain goes synth, everybody goes synth.. when producers start making songs to format what the kids are already listening to, as opposed to making THEIR music, thats when it hurts the culture.
but will.i.am does transitions well, and so does pharell. dre did it on the chronic to certain extent.. but i think kanye takes the most risk, and does it the best. i thought late registration really flexed his muscle, and was his best album because of it.

I wouldn’t automatically come to the assumption that the individuals are associated with Fab or Bow, but if they are, Fab and Bow need to denounce those dudes ASAP via twitter….imo.
May 28th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
Oh yeah….this track is fire, but vocals need to be synchronized a bit better.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
“struggling to be relevant??”
HUH??!??!?!?!
LMFAO. wow. most ignorant statement of the decade.
May 28th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
Why would liking 808’s mean im not a “hiphop head??” Your ignorance outweighs my desire to continue this conversation.
Over>>>>>>>>>>>every song so far this year.
May 29th, 2010 at 12:51 am
i heard it was fabolous’s brother that slapped her…..
May 29th, 2010 at 7:05 am
Transitions should be in all forms of music. It didn’t come from pop man. Every form of music but rap has transitions and changes in it. And hip hop is starting to catch up with guys like Ye and JUSTICE League and such. The looped joints have their place. But in this day and age, hearing a someone rap over a straight Funky Drummer loop is a bit out of date.
And btw, pop has been part of hip hop since day one. This hasn’t just started. And, as a producer myself, I really don’t see the issue with incorporate any style or genre into your music.
May 29th, 2010 at 7:07 am
You can’t denounce something you might not even know about. I don’t think Bow or Fab would be involved with something like this. Too much of a headache. And I don’t condone men hitting women, but you make a bed, you gotta lay in it.
May 29th, 2010 at 9:48 am
This song is fire. He has evolved and reinvented himself and thats what a true artist does. He put some real shit on an album that was in his head. True artist arent focused on what they did that worked but what they will do that works. People that want his old flow should go listen to his old albums Hov style…
May 29th, 2010 at 11:02 am
Kanye needs a more up tempo bass beating 1st single with him saying quirky Ignorant Pop referenced shit over it like “Golddigger” was when it dropped
May 29th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
YESSS MY FAVORITE ARTIST IS BACK WITH SOME FIYA!!!! CANT WAIT TILL GOOD ASS JOB
May 29th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Good posts, gentlemen.
I agree that hip hop evolves, and it should. But the essence shouldn’t change IMO. or at least, it should get stronger, as opposed to weaker.
To me, hip hop is best when the EMCEE experience is strongest. Because the ONE thing hip hop does better than any other genre is to get into the mind/thought of the emcee and his/her surroundings.
That’s it! Everything else, other genres can do. You can dance to hip hop, pop, jazz, etc. You can sing in hip hop, pop, jazz, etc. You can talk about world poverty, love, etc in hip hop, pop, jazz all in a general way.. But the SPECIFIC details of personal expression? the specifics of living life a certain way? Only hip hop does that.
Think about how much expression/words are crammed into one song in Illmatic, and compare the number of words in “Beat It”, for example. Both are incredibly classic material, and both very raw in terms of musical honesty, but Nas says WAY MORE in one record of Illmatic.
And unfortunately, the game has watered down that essential aspect of hip hop that made hip hop special.
We all know the rhymes have gotten worse, and a huge reason for that is because hip hop has become more poppy than it should be.
The beats nowadays overpower the emcee, and the emcee is just background noise to help the beat.
The beats aren’t structured to help the emcee, they’re structured to conform to pop music standards. Which is wack.
Again, if I wanted to hear standard transitions with a bridge after the 2nd verse and sung chorus, I’d listen to pop. I’m not saying we shouldn’t bring these things into hip hop; i’m just saying that we need to do it with caution, and make those things conform to hip hop, instead of hip hop conforming to it.
May 29th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Kanye’s back! Nice photo at the top 😀
May 29th, 2010 at 2:09 pm
Fire. Buddy who did the beat iz dumb w/ it.
May 29th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
First, this track is pretty average..
Second, im glad kat stacks got slapped.. although people might be like you aint supposed to put yo hands on a girl blah blah.. but i know almost every guys out there that wasn’t feeling this bitch’s look and her annoying ass voice from the get-go, wanted to slap the shit out of her at LEAST in their dreams.. so i’m glad somebody did it for me at least.. but still wronng though but who gives a fuck this bitch deserves to get slapped with that “WSUP YALL?!?! CALL THIS NIGGA 202-262-7636 HAHAHA!!~!~” fucking annoying as shit.. i never knew a girl can be this annoying and look that unattractive..
May 29th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
One or two cynics or bad Kanye songs? I didn’t like the last two LPs. He lost me after Late Registration.
May 29th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
>>Who else am I missing..
The Roots?
May 29th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Agreed, ah fast ‘im fast, translation, he spoke too soon. Its bad b/c all of JA knows that was going to happen, Dudus is a highly respected man. There is a seize fire at the moment, see how long this last.
May 29th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
I feel a breath of fresh air coming to hip hop right now. Either I’ve been ignorant but its a lot of heat, beats and lyrics (i.e. Vado, Jada, Busta) coming out. Realize drake and kanye are getting a lot of comparisons with this song, definitely justified, I thought the same.
May 29th, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Last line: “you got the power to let power GO?”
It’s a question
May 29th, 2010 at 11:53 pm
you keep saying how nasty she is and how horrible of a human being she is. well, what does that say about the rappers that slept with her? They must be just as bad of people to associate themselves with her. These so called rappers are so “bad”, they can do whatever they want, sleep with whoever they want, and of all the women they have to pick from, they choose kat stacks? That just shows how classless these rappers are.
These rappers are so “real”, so street, and so awesome at life but in reality they’re just BASIC, they’re replaceable. They’re dumb enough to give their phone numbers after they’ve slept with her. They’re dumb enough to stay in contact with her more than once. It says a lot about these guys, they’re just as dumb if not worse, because they’re the actual “celebrity” that should know better.
You think women are bit*ches? I think Fab and Bowwow just proved you wrong. Men are much bigger bit*ches especially when they have their d*ickriding goons beat a 98lb girl up for them. That’s some major bi*tcha*sness. Carry on.
May 30th, 2010 at 6:08 am
KanYe West’s G.O.O.D Ass Job’s GOOD ASS JOB !!!
May 30th, 2010 at 6:44 am
yall sound crazy saying Jay would dumb this track down. Who you gonna find better than Jay with NO PEN just builds on inspiration?
yall really trippin if you think Kanye is better than JAYZ, the only way YE got Jay is production. Lyrically YE aint seeing Jay and Jay inspired the best in Kanye being inducted to Rocafella back in the day.
JAYZ is 1 of the best alive, 1st come all the greats from early to late 80’s into the early 90’s and the rest of the time been Jayz.
Jay Z got classic’s for days…. i mean do yall dudes listen to his music or do you just skim thru it?
Geesh….yall niggaz got joookes!!!!
May 30th, 2010 at 6:47 am
Now dats real talk homey, this is just a warm up. dudes acting like Ye dont know whats popping…..deez niggaz got joookes!!!
May 30th, 2010 at 6:57 am
I truly love when people use a Jay z reference……”niggaz want my old shit/ buy my old album”
its all about maturity and evolving. thats what Jay been doing and thats what Ye been doing, where others fall> EMINEM, 50, JADAKISS… others stay climbing.
May 30th, 2010 at 7:06 am
on rapradar damn the dudes in their had to bring Eminem in at every giving moment, im soooo glad they stuck to the script on this.
The song is good and the video will mke it hotter, its not a banger but it will suffice. i think its a warm up, a reintroduction. you see he didnt fully produce the track and thats very different. he letting some 1 else get a lil credit and BANG now look how Ye really do!
JAYZ i would love to hear a verse, regardless of what a few haters said above and Jay z need to make a song outta that RED CAFE track “im ill” cuz Red Cafe sounds just as wack as his name. In the great words of BIG DADDY KANE ” how you get a record deal?”
May 30th, 2010 at 8:36 am
From a classic musiclover…I must say I am lovin that the track.I think Kanye is speaking on what he may have kept to himself regarding the whole awards thing where everyone verbally bashed him.
I still see him as a phenominal Producer and Artist despite that happening. I felt that way at the time and continue to feeel that way. I think too many people play follow the leader , if one person say oh no what the hell then everybody wannaa jump on the bandwagon and say oh no what the hell.
When time digests you will see they are the same person living with the same issues and producing the same effects. Now you have created a monster and not in an insulting way. I mean Kanye is gonna beast on the industry because they entertainment world and media came down on him hard like .
He maintained his composure and as you can see he still feels some type of way of it.Now all who tried to come him sideways has to accept that he is confronting them head on. I just read the lyrics and as you can see he is relating a lot of that pressure and putting that same pressure on the ones who weretrying to bring him down.
All I can say is once you are a fan of ones music you can better relate to their behaviors and ways of expression.
I still haven’t seen the clip or the show where he went on stage and yadda dadda da dadda.
But yeah, I was expecting a more partylike song for his comeback…something that had a not a thing to do with that whole scene, but I see that he isn’t going to approach it like anyone else, but his own way.
I like the song so far and look forward to him releasing some hits off this album.
And he still looks cute with his Amber Rose (they’d make a cute baby) and I know Kanye presents a political side to his music that is how come he is such a controversial Artist/Producer.
He is not afraid to speak on the skeptism that has recently been surrounding his image.
Extra: I read that talents who get rewarded through their careers tend to live longer than their fellow talents who may only get nominated. Perhaps he wanted Beyonce to outlive Taylor Swift…

Tochi, you make good points man. But with all respect, you should never EVER compare ANYTHING to ANYTHING on THRILLER! Nothing that has come out has had the impact Thriller had. Don’t even get me started on the sales. And I think a bit unfair and incorrect to say Nas says more because, unless you’re older than I think, Thriller didn’t impact you like Illmatic did. You weren’t able to see how Michael crossed barriers and broke down so many walls so Nas and other black musicians could be heard on a bigger scale. Illmatic was a classic record. Hell, it was the first hip hop joint I actually owned (stole from my cousin but still.) But that’s it. It didn’t change the game. It was pretty much the hottest producers at the time working with the hottest, most anticipated rapper in the game (damn that sounds like Drake now, but I won’t go there)
And honestly, I say go crazy with the music. Because if people in hip-hop didn’t experiment and go contrary to the “hip hop handbook”, we would miss out on so much great music. Where would Timbo be? Or Ye? Or Just Blaze? Or The Neptunes? Or Dr. Dre? Or any number of the great producers in hip hop? These are all guys who started with the basic hip hop sound and then elevated it past straight loops into actual music with live instrumentation, experimenting with different sounds and genres, and basically doing what hip hop is supposed to do and breaking the rules, even if we were the ones who made them. While there may be a correlation between rappers getting lazier because of the ridiculous production out there, should we say the producer needs to regress or should the emcee catch up and get better?

IS THE SONG REALLY THAT LYRICAL THO?? u nigg*z got joookes…..and goodnight, ill see u in the morning….seriously drake has way better lyric word play….

Its not good, i dont care what anyone says, any other rapper release this and no-one would would bat an eyelid, remember when people were saying how “groundbreaking” 808 & heartbreaks was? turns out it just sucked. over-hyped (as usual) over-reated.

crap
May 30th, 2010 at 9:46 pm
just heard the new kanye, it’s not for me maybe this is a rough draft of the song, but kanye can make better beats that.

May 31st, 2010 at 1:02 pm
u don’t get it. Nas and Ye are about simplicity. You need the fancy stuff just speak from the heart. Thats what a real lyricist is. not saying some like I got this bitches turnin their necks like ooooowwww and I’m the man of the oooooowwww-errr. That’s stupid
May 31st, 2010 at 1:04 pm

“kanye is the most inspiring musician alive right now.” -word. Ye’s passion to do this is unmatched. Mix that with a whole lot of talent and, in my opinion, you have the best artist in the genre and a really inspiring dude.
