Fugitive Mobster James “Whitey” Bulger Captured by FBI After 16 Year Manhunt

Well, they finally got him. After a 16-year manhunt, the FBI has apprehended Boston Mob Boss James “Whitey” Bulger. You probably remember his character being depicted by Jack Nicholson in the 2006 film, The Departed, one of my favs. From about 1979 up until 1995, when he went on the run (actually I’m sure he was still in power after), Whitey was the top dog in South Boston’s Winter Hill Gang. But on top of that, he was actually a high level government informant at the same time. A rat.
The ruthless criminals were made up of mostly Irish-American dudes with a few Italians in the mix. They basically killed mad people, extorted, sold drugs and all kinds of other dirt. He was wanted for his role in 19 murders and countless other crimes. But they finally captured him, son. “Whitey Back”
Notorious Boston Mob kingpin James “Whitey” Bulger has finally been busted near Los Angeles, ending a 16-year manhunt that had proved a major black-eye for the FBI. The Feds finally caught up with the 81-year-old fugitive Wednesday at a Santa Monica home where he was living with his long-time gal-pal Catherine Greig. The arrest comes days after the FBI launched a renewed publicity campaign to locate the long-missing mobster, which led to a key tip, officials said.- NY Daily News

How come I haven’t seen pictures of this 81 year old guy? Does anyone have a link to recent photos, arrest video, anything? Like Bin Laden show me the evidence and i’ll believe the news…

Miss info did a pretty good job summarizing it. everything you basically need is in this post.To prosecute a 81 yr old man though, sounds extreme to me,let that old man live out the few years he has left. sounds like another notch in the fed belt, nothing more. By the way the departed is classic

Just to play Devil’s Advocate: Would you feel the same way if he’d of murdered a loved one or extorted a relative who was just trying to make an honest living?

Honestly I prob. wouldn’t. You make a good point. But at this point if you havent had some form of closure would seeing a 80 yr old spend the lil time he has left really give you that?
I dont know you shed light on a good point , But i really dont see any justice for either in this situation.

There’s an episode of the “Mobsters” tv show that comes on Biography about Whitey Bulger.
Basically an FBI agent from the same ‘hood in Boston approached him and Bulger played them all while not really giving up to much real info besides street gossip and info on his competition. Pretty positive the cat he was running his crew with was also an informat and initially neither knew the other was informing. His brother was a powerful politician in Mass. The reward jumped from 1 milli to 2 milli for tips leading to his arrest in 2010. Guess someone said “Gimme the Loot!”
Tried to link the episode from Biography.com but they no longer have it posted. However, I’m sure they’ll be showing the episode on tv soon with an update.
