From the Desk of Snow Go: Young Jeezy is now an Exec at Atlantic Records?

Young Jeezy has been tweeting photos from his summer vacation, but back home in Atlanta, V103′s DJ Greg Street made an interesting on-air announcement that Jeezy is the new Senior VP of A&R for Atlantic Records. This was reinforced by DJ Folk, a Team Jeezy insider, who tweeted: “The announcement Greg street made on the radio a sec ago gonna fuck n—as up when they catch wind of it lol” [sic].
Miss Info: This is fascinating. Now of course Jizzle is just one of many artists who have taken label gigs over the years, like DJ Khaled (Def Jam), Jim Jones (Warner), Scarface (Def Jam South), Q-Tip (Motown) and more. But what’s interesting is that Young Jeezy is an A&R at a competing label (Atlantic) from the one he’s actually signed to (Def Jam). Perhaps this creates a situation similar to the one that Rick Ross has…where Ross is signed as a solo artist to Def Jam, but has his crew of artists signed to Warner Music? (In the case of Ross, this also let him leverage one label against the other ; )
Speaking of Jeezy and his artists…one of my favorites in his camp, Freddie Gibbs released a video for the title track of his collaborative EP with Madlib, called “Shame.”
Obedient pitbulls and powder-snorting Vashtie-lookalikes!
Watch it after the jump
Freddie Gibbs x Madlib “Shame” (featuring BJ the Chicago Kid) (Directed by Jonah Schwartz)
Buy the full Shame EP via Stones Throw. I’m not a huge fan of gratuitous scenes of girls hoovering drugs up their nose, but I guess it’s in context. Either way, musically this song is crack. Pardon the pun.
And just for fun….more photos from Young Jeezy’s vacation. A bird in hand! ; )

Does these rappers having exective title mean anything. Do they really make real executive decisions? Who the hell draw up def jams contracts. I would think the #1 line in every contract is you can’t work for a competing label.
It’s funny how def jam gave jeezy the step child treatment with TM103 but that album still sold more than god forgive.

So, there were no actual A&R’s at Atlantic Records worth promoting to this position? If there are I’d be shopping my resume right now.
