The 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards taping over the weekend in Atlanta made headlines for two negative incidents. But the annual event also featured a big moment in hip-hop leading up to the emotional tribute of mogul Chris Lighty. Once bitter rivals, 50 Cent and Fat Joe called a truce and put their much-publicized past beef aside for the man who shaped both of their careers. On Monday, Fat Joe called into Philly’s Hot 107.9 to discuss burying the hatchet with his once arch nemesis and sharing the moment on stage with 50, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, and Missy Elliott.

“I came to do the tribute, I knew 50 Cent would be there. But I came like ‘we’re going to do this for Chris’, and while we were there 50 whispered some things in my ear that was gentleman like. He just said the right things man, where you know a handshake [was] involved and that was that. It just took two grown men to just say ‘this is for Chris Lighty, this is for hip-hop, let’s move on with our lives.'”

You can watch the moment when the award show aires next Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on BET.
