Uncle Sam Doesn’t Care About Rap People: Fat Joe Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

Fat Joe could face some jail time relating to failing to file tax returns in the amount of $700,000 from 2007 and 2008. On Thursday morning, Joe plead guilty to tax evasion charges during a federal court case in New Jersey. Released on a $250,000 bond, the Bronx MC is scheduled to face sentencing on April 3rd. If convicted, he can face up to two years in prison, plus a fine of $200,000.

As a licensed CPA I can tell you that this is not limited to rappers by any stretch of the imagination. Wealthy people are too often not aware of the laws or a major basic things when it comes to their money …specially rappers that deal with a ton of cash payments. Because you make money it doesn’t mean that you are good a taxation and keeping book and records. I don’t want to get into the technicalities but this is very easy specially when there are not clear open lines of communications between clients and their accountants. Unless you have your own personal bookkeeper working with you 24/7 and then having the bookkeeper communicate with you CPA. You guys might to believe it for the IRS is not that good. There are plenty of people that get away with crap unknowingly or knowingly all the time. The IRS is too small of an entity to do so and they depend on us individuals to be honest.
