Raekwon drops his new album Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang on March 8th (pre-order here), and as a Wu-fan lifer, it’s a no-brainer to buy. I didn’t even mind that I was out of town for Rae’s listening session a few weeks back. In some ways, it was better that way….because when he sent over this song today….it was totally new to me. And completely derailed the rest of the day. I’ve been playing this song on repeat for a few hours straight. AND I LOVE IT. This song made me want to throw a fridge off the roof, Lox-style.
I think even Rae was a little freaked out when I bypassed the usual hello, and just yelled: Cooked. Crack. Crazy. But when I stopped acting like a hopped-up juggalo, he explained, the song is produced by Extreme, a young Chicagoan from No I.D.’s camp. And he wanted to speed up Gza’s “7th Chamber” beat and flip it. He said he respected the fact that even though him and Rick Ross aren’t close friends, Ross got the beat, said, “I’ll have it back in 48 hours,” and delivered on his word. I respect the fact that Ross gave him a verse that flows like a tribute to the Rae x Ghost Cuban Links Supreme Clientele style…with a few extra Rozay grunts. It all fits perfectly with the Rae and Ghost magic.

Raekwon will be performing for Hot97’s Shaolin vs Wutang release party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on March 8th. And he recently launched his new website too, www.raekwonchronicles.com.
Watch footage of Rae’s listening session from last night at Washington DC’s DTLR Lounge…

Also, I love that RR‘s DontHateBeHated transcribed the epic Raekwon rant from today’s Fat Joe x Raekwon “Pushing Keys” record. LOL. That’s public service!

SMH how will these dudes expand when all they do is recycle the past??????? this beat is not better than the original so it just ends up a watered down rehash. come on give us better

Have to sort of co-sign even though Ghost did branch out when he released Emerald City and I’m still hoping he does that album with DOOM.
Regardless I’m still waiting for GZA who has been consistently on point even if his flow has gotten a little lazy.

Completely random but i didn’t know info had a hand in Nas’ Illmatic getting 5 mics from the source back in 94. Might be a stretch but your a part of black history. good job inf

Great song. Brings back traditional wu memories.
I love how people are saying they don’t want this ‘recycled’ music but then if an artist branches out they’d be the same people saying they’re not being true to their fanbase.
Rap fans… SMH

My copy of Emerald City and the fact that Stapleton Sex stays in rotation disagrees with you DT.

{{{{RECYCLED SHIT RULES!!!!!!!!}}}}
…..and the Cop sounds good between 2 felons….lol.
Also, personally I like to hear samples flipped different ways, but it got to be funky….which this IMO, is.

Its hot, throws it back to that era of Wu… Ross does a decent job at fitting in. I’d give it 3 mics
