Exclusive: Mazzi vs Jay Electronica and the Cool Kids….the Mea culpa?
Posted by Miss Info under beef , exclusives , hmmm....? , new music[61] Comments
HATERS: I love you guys!
RACISTS: You guys are primitive beings… Sad & pathetic…
(hmmm…what do you think? Do you believe this “experiment” or do you feel this is backtracking? I’d like to know what were the “clues” in Lesson A?)
(on another note: I loved Qtip’s comments, he made great sense. And I can definitely appreciate the topic of discussion….in fact, I’ve had that same discussion with Tip and others on numerous occasions…usually after spending any amount of time around the Broadway and Houston area of Soho. But I’m not 100% sure I agree with Mazzi’s method, even if I may agree with some of his gripes.)
(props to Young Sav)
Click more for Mazzi’s statement:
First & foremost, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this experiment. When I first put it together, I did not know how it would exactly unfold but I had an idea that everybody’s response would be similar to what it was… Safe to say I did extensive homework… I didn’t go in this blindly… I addressed certain problems, came up with solutions, plotted strategy for a timely unveiling, then anticipated how the reaction & result would be… Not easy… Hope the overall message translates…
THE COOL KIDS: I hope ya’ll understand that above all, your success qualified you guys to be in this experiment. I wish ya’ll the best… Mikey, you were a good sport…& you’re the 100th person to say I look like Jason Kidd! Funny shit… PEACE
JAY ELECTRONICA: Your success aswell made you a prime candidate for this experiment… I wish you the best too… I read somewhere that the profits from your album are going to charity… S.O.U.L. Purpose has, is, & always will be charity based so I commend you for that! PEACE
ERYKAH BADU: You were thrown in that mix for the shock factor… I had to be convincing… I meant no disrespect… I actually had the pleasure of rocking with you at The Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe years ago & we vibed very well… One love… PEACE
MEDIA: Big up to real journalists who report & inform & stay away from bullshit propaganda! Peace to Miss Info, Wreckless, Eskay, Low Key, Steve Raze, Grouchy Greg, Mike, Synapse, Brian, Wonder Twinz, Fubz, Thomas, Emily, Killa Hill, Kid Kaos, Cros1, PEACE Mag., Mick Boogie, Roslynn, & all others who truly take their media craft seriously!
INTERNET NERDS/SCREEN BANGERS/COMPUTER GANGSTERS: It’s obvious that the net is part of our everyday routine… It’s essential! But attempt to escape your virtual reality once in a while… Get out more & live life! There’s Hip Hop to be discovered! Pay attention to the experiment:
Operation F.L.I.P. (Finding Lessons In Practice)=LessonA+LessonB
BANDWAGON TRENDY HIPSTER HOPPERS: Respect the architects, pay dues, research, & learn about what you’re doing… We are ALL students of this culture! Preservation is key! Each one teach one, reach one another… Pay attention to the experiment:
Operation F.L.I.P. (Finding Lessons In Practice)=LessonA+LessonB

This dude is backtrackin’ worse than ‘90-’91 Denver Nuggets!!
Now not only can duke not spit, but he has no backbone either.. he played himself all the way.. Sucks cuz I thought duke brought up interesting observations on both cool kids and jay electro.. and who from the chi was he gonna expose next?? or was that bull too??
duke says: “I addressed certain problems, came up with solutions, plotted strategy for a timely unveiling, then anticipated how the reaction & result would be… Not easy… Hope the overall message translates…”
What the hell is he talking about??
what problem, and what damn solution??timely?? based on what? you ridin’ other dudes coattails for maximum exposure?
the overall message clearly translates to a clown dude playin himself not once but twice.. he offed himself musicwise.. hes better off writing mea culpas for a living..
info, where are q-tips comments by the way?
(sorry if I missed em..)

I don’t know miss info….I grabbed the song when it came out and I admit the song was dope and new. I was like who this…now the “experiment” he could be talking about is the fact he made folks really research who HE was. I for one wanted to know what started this situation and since there was no immediate response from ANYONE was the “clue” to me..but hey he like everyone else knows how the internet operates and if you know how to make it work to your advantage then more power to you. I agree with some of the stuff he spits, but don’t holla at us “internet nerds” or “haters” like we need to be taught a lesson or something….

This concept is genius most importantly has to be viewed and heard. Hip Hop needs this in a way its a wake up call for the culture.
LISTEN!!!!
people lack that factor when it comes to music.
Mazzi makes a point with this experiment theres a difference between following trends and being open really feeling the music and message these artists provide.
Lets go beyond the ignorance
and for those internet nerds go out!!!
experience a show go to these network parties and meet the artists!! Give it a chance before you attempt to assume by race..
and on that not I tend to put good music video out on TV again so turn on your TV and watch these public access music shows you will be surprised.
Peace to Miss Info and Mazzi

I usually dont buy into beef when it is presented onto the hip-hop scene. However, this time there really was a message, and dude can flow. If lesson B came back with negativity, then Mazzi would have been another dude trying to make a name for himself by belittling others, but it wasn’t, it was a clear message formulated to drive a positive and needed change in the game!

I can only think of this quote
“Any intelligent fool(s) can make things bigger, more complex and more violent but it takes a touch of genius and alot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”
In this case, Mazzi is the genius. Beef or no beef, it’s important to the game that we have S.O.U.L Purpose and like elements in it.

I don’t understand. What was the actual “experiment”? What was the hypothesis that he was trying to prove? If he was trying to prove that starting a fake beef will generate you a little buzz did we need an experiment for that? Also, if that were the case then it would have showed a little more integrity to do it under a pen name so that cynics like me (read – internet haters) don’t think that he was just trying to generate a little buzz.

think twice about why we like them.
ok we’re all not gonna walk away from this like
“yo mazzi’s the man”.
but I def sure we will be more conscious to our history before we remix the tastemakers of back-in-the-dayz style..

As a grown up hip hop fan (not internet hater), this song and its videos are all wack and silly, and reeks of hating. Why get on like this? Let the teenagers and hipsters have little genres and I promise, nobody is going to be the worse for a little variety. Is it really hip hop to rap in front of a collage of men in scarves? Because you don’t like their scarves?

either way i digging it . better then hearing some one rap about being a gangster or popin bottles when in real life they live with there moms and ride the bus.
side note isnt that first scene the last scene of lesson a,?? did they shoot these at the time ?

I think i’m right along binary on this one. I mean, I understand mazzi’s purpose. The point was to get attention in the most immediate way possible, focus the camera on you, and deliver your own message. Great, but not revolutionary. Is this the ‘08 version of “how to rob?!?” Is hip-hop the only genre that belittles people who aren’t deep into the foundations and familiar with earlier works? Maybe we should just accept that we’re getting older :/

ps…shouldnt q-tip feel flatterd young artist are trying to bring it back maybe shining a light on that “movement” (Fad)from back in the 90’s,i mean cause it isnt like he did what groups like NWA or Public Enemy were doing, those were real movements with a real message even if they didnt express it in the most positive light,i can see them being botherd or even offended by some kids rockin a “**** the Police” shirt as a fashion statement…but why does tip come off kinda bitter…maybe homeboy just feels old…and even if hiphop swayd from the “Beef” scene and went back into good music Mazzi would still be pulling off pranks like this one to sell a record cause homeboy is awefull….

Sad to say he proved a point.
Every one entertains the beef and bullshit.
But they tend to forget about the consequences and reurcations that come with it afterward…
entertaining when its on radio and t.v. but the streets are different… cool kids and mazzi beef probably wouldnt of reach that level but others would of.

No matter how he spins it, it was basically a gimmick, whether he recanted or not. It’s definitely fucked up when people are reducing themselves to ‘experiments’ for a way of being seen/heard. Just make dope music, man. If it’s meant to be, then you’ll be heard and respected. If anything, all this other tomfoolery takes away from your music.
He could have spent all this time just picking out crazy beats and penning crazy, nameless lyrics….

Whats scarier is the fact that theres people on here and i guess to an extent out in the cyberworld who are actually applauding this whole crap.. at the end of the day it boils down to good music and mazzi aint really got that aspect down.. experiment or not, he sucks.. but i guess the key is to get a well respected tru school artist to cosign your gimmick so then it aint a gimmick and instead ingenuity..

All them dudes is whack in my opinion. There’s soo much classic material out there from late 80’s to the late 90’s that hip-hop will never die.
I mean if my Pops still listen to Marvin Gaye, Ohio Players, James Brown and Em old school is alive in his world everyday.
Old school P.E or NWA always sounds super duper dope in the summer. This Jay Electrinica stuff gives me the yawns, dudes is boring as hell.

ALMIGHTY, STRETCH, & FORGE,
I’mma keep it respectable… You obviously weren’t watching or listening to what was going on… I suggest you refer back to Lesson A & B! There were 2 major problems: The fact that our culture is being dilluted & fizzled out by people not caring to learn about the history of what they’re rockin’ or doin’… This leads to lack of direction… Elvis, Sinatra, & that Greatful Dead guy were revered ’til the day they died. Kool Herc walked into a big club in NY few months ago & nobody knew who he was!
2nd, rap beef used to have substance & people still checked for good music. Now it’s a soap opera! People care about that more… Music is secondary! And some say, “Just make good music!” LOL! Are you serious?! You guys are obviously blind to what promotional tactics go on to bring an act out… It’s not about good music for the most part… It’s about what “works” & how it can be shoved down the consumers’ throats… With that being said, I had to speak in the language that masses understood to get my point across…& as I stated a few times in Lesson B, you don’t have to fuck w/ my music! I was putting out records before this & God willing will be putting out records after… I listed 26 artists that you should check for at the end of Lesson B. Go check for them! Let’s get back to the music! If you think I’m “wack”, that’s your opinion & you’re entitled to it but pay close attention to the experiment (Operation F.L.I.P.) before you make your statements… GOD BLESS…
PS Miss Info, you really know how to add fuel to the fire…
Sincerely,
MAZZI (S.O.U.L. Purpose)

Lesson A, B, Operation FLIP, etc. are all WACK. End of Story. We peeped game, we understand, and they are all still wack. A wack song, a wack video, a wack follow-up interview, and a wack, tired point that I was tired of in 2001(”You better know who Kool Herc is!”?). I sat through all of it hoping to be schooled and educated and I all I got was a headache. I lost for watching any of this. *frowns and rolls eyes*

Mazzi first off, Elvis was a racist who stole his act and passed it off as his own.. But anyway, to put it plain and simple, originally your message was cool, and if you peep the original thread from Lesson A you’d see I noted that I felt what u was sayin’ from jump, I just ain’t feel you as an emcee.. Kool Herc ain’t recognized cuz truth be told, hes a arrogant dude who feels he’s owed something. I’ve been in his presence numerous times, and humility is not a trait of his..
You say we’re blind to the promotional tactics that go on to put an act out, but for your “experiment” you chose the wrong dependant variables. The Cool Kids and even Jay Electro for that purpose are not affiliated with any of those “machines” that shove the product down us consumers throats. Both acts have and are grinding on a indie level much like the Kweli’s and J-Live’s of the world did back in the golden backpack era of ‘97.. If anything, Cool Kids and JE are a byproduct of the very avenues you’ve resorted to in order to bring light to your experiment; blogs and online fans. You said you had to speak in the language that masses understood to get your point across but what masses are you referring to if the avenues you chose are the very avenues that appreciate and respect acts like Atmosphere and Blu and Murs, the same blogs and online fans??? Or maybe you’re saying that you normally don’t spit that way or rhyme over those types of beats but did so to get through to “the masses”?? I’m confused..
As far as respect for the culture goes, your “experiment” did little to adress it or bring about any solutions to the so called problem. People rock whatever they wanna rock man, you ain’t call Tinker Hatfield and suggest the red and black colorway on your jordan 8’s..
No idea’s original homie..
We live in an age where we get the play by play down to the very damn minute almost regarding news and “Info” about our favorite artists and their beefs etc.. No longer do we have to wait for next months Source to recap what happened the past month between Ice Cube and Cypress Hill or said artist’s next album. We can thank technology and the world wide web for that.. The same outlet you employed for your experiment. That’s why it’s dramatized the way it is.
Ultimately, you may have very well thought this whole thing out and planned it all in detail but at the end of the day your experiment was wack and uninspired. If you were trying to make a point that’s one thing, but for you to call it an experiment doesn’t make any damn sense at all… It ended up coming off as one of the very gimmicks or promotional tactics employed by the Major Labels you refer to.
For the record, Cool Kids have cool songs, but i’m not a fan by any stretch. Jay can spit his a$$ off but has yet to prove to me he can make a record or a full album for that matter..
If kids wanna rock shemaghs and camo new era’s or retro 80’s style gear and spit over chopped and screwed hooks then hey.. that’s on them. At the end of the day wack is wack and dope will always be dope.
The beauty of all this is that at the end of the day, you can continue to put your music out as you wish and so can Cool Kids and JE.. even if it is for your people on your block or the 3000 fans you’ve accumulated on myspace.. and so Hip Hop Lives..

ALMIGHTY,
Elvis being a racist has nothing to do with the point I made about him being reverred (Hope I spelled that right) ’til the day he died…
Anyway, as far as Herc goes, I have been in his company sveral times, built w/ him, & did shows w/ the brother… He never came off in the manner you described… But I guess different strokes for different folks (pause)…
If you read the press release, I wrote to both JE & CK that they were targeted because of their success online! That’s my aim…online zombies…not regular online fans! We all use this net homie! We damn near need it! I had to create a spark… Look, I work in an environment that is highly highly in tune w/ music & the youth… I been speaking to them for years & most of them just jump on anything that seems to be the shit! So although JE & CK have grinded their way through & I respect their hussle, I was making a point to these kids to expand their minds & more over, not just get hype about some rapper attacking some other ones… I also deal w/ hundreds of DJ’s around the world… Some of them been keeping in touch w/ me through this whole shit…& alot of them told me that they’ve had encounters w/ the youth in their respective areas & most of the kids were so taken by the beef but after Lesson B, they got the point & are beginning to see what I meant… See, that matters to me at the end of the day! Just like the MC’s of my childhood caught my attention & grabbed my interest w/ their messages by “speaking in the language that I understood”!
The “experiment” did address the problems & possible solutions… From Lesson A to Lesson B to the press release to the last letter I wrote to you… You come off as an intelligent person…so I wonder why you ask about it yet again… C’mon bro!
As far as it being wack… You’re entitled to your outlook…GREAT! But uninspired?! I would have to disagree… You seem to be a person who does his/her homework & background checks being that you know how many myspace friends I have… Go on the scene you like to call “backpack” or underground in NY & ask how many charitable events I’ve set up & been a part of to help improve various communities homie… See this is the shit you might not find by clicking on a mouse because I do what I do for the people who molded me…my environment… I don’t go around advertising it…but having the audacity to call it uninspired w/ out knowing my motivation, is ignorant! Operation F.L.I.P. is the same thing… I’m giving back to the youth by edutainment! Do I have to spell it out? I’m not making money off of it! & I already said not to buy my album if u don’t feel this, I already gave you other artists to check out instead…so if it still comes off as a gimmick to you, then fuck it! To the K.I.M.
& before you even say it…yes, I did put it out there that 1/2 the profits from my album sales are going to The Boys & Girls Club of America… That’s because we’re starting a whole movement to tie in Hip Hop w/ nonprofit organizations in the near future God willing… You’re welcome to join the movement…
GOD BLESS

MAZZI of S.O.U.L dog u’r experiment in my eyes was flawed in many ways.
Hip-hop battles have always been legendary, it’s part of hip-hop.
Public Enemy put out “Fight the Power” “Don’t beleive the hype” for a reason, NWA came into the scene and put out”straight outta compton” “F*ck da police” for a reason
You’ve had MC’s battle it out on the Mic from Roxanne Shante VS UTFO, KRS One, LL cool J, Canibus, Jay Z and Nas that was all beef that started on wax that ended on wax. Pac and BIG was more personal and not so much about music if you think about it.
Kids and everybody gravitates to whats hot and everything has a sell by date coz the current beef gimmicks ain gonna last for too long. Soulja Boy came out and kids bing crankin it like Soulja Boy where was the beef in that, Mims, Rich Boy and the list goes on.
Mc-ing battling and competition is hip-hop and the genre is so diverse that everyone has the right to pick and choose who they like from 50 to Kanye to whoever it’s a matter of personal choice i like the hip-hop battles like the stuff you see on Smack DVD e.t.c coz that is entertainment. if I want to broaden my mind and school myself i ain’t got a problem with going to school or picking up a book.
You as an MC I think comes across as a bit narrow minded and thinks that your opinion should shape everyone elses and am not with that. As far as your charity comments it’s like your desperate for a backin so we can be like yo he’s doin somethin positive lets back him. Do goos because you want to see people better themselves not to put yourself in a good light we see right through that! PS U’re whack!

At least not right away
If u read, he said back in the day people cared about good music just as much!
He ain’t shapin’ nothin’ just voicing his opinion creatively
Look, I don’t know dude & maybe spoke to him once but I have seen him perform & he be killin’ it! Straight up!
& I seen him battle years ago
He did his thing w/ that too!
He def. ain’t wack that’s fo sho

For the record, I’ve never visited your myspace page, I just threw a random crazy number out there.. haha..
So you were aimin’ for online zombies, not online fans.. hmm..ok..
It all seems noble at first glance, but I just think for you to embark upon this whole enlightening movement when you havent established yourself to the level of the ones you chose to use as variables reeks of someone reachin’.. Now you may say “Yo fam I been on my grind for x amount of years and do your homework” etc.. but truth is truth.. a majority of people had never heard of your before this experiment.. I think this would have been accepted much more if you had established a stronger foundation for yourself as an emcee..
Moreover, reading your explanations in detail and your reasoning I think gives your attempt much more plausibility than from just observing the song and video..
Good luck with the movement though..

Check this out what was the purpose of Nas putting out Hip-hop was dead?? This dude is bootleging.
Nas put it out there because creatively he felt hip-hop was not growing creatively and the music was getting monotonous and mediocre.
This dude come out hypin a whole bunch of STATING THE OBVIOUS and expects to get A+ on his report card.
He’s experiment gets a “F”!!! Thats ish is garbage! And waste of time, music is supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT at the end of the day.
I don’t feel like hip-hop has to be mad educational and political unless the current affairs going on in the world force it to be.
Music can be a reflection of what goes on in society but it should be creative. Schools are supposed to guide and inspire students to strive for success and to improve their lives by teaching them how to survive not hip-hop.
Who in the hell is gonna hire you for an executive or level job in a fortune 500 company just because you know The lyrics to “juicy” by Notorious B.I.G?
Snoop said it best Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, hip-hop is generates a lot of income for a lot of people and so you can’t get mad at whatever gimmicks or marketing plans they execute to sell records, next y’all will be saying stuff like Boxers shouldn’t exchange words to hype up their bouts.

All am sayin is that, when This dude asked Q-Tip in the “Lesson B video” around the 7.28Min Mark about the whole beef thing, Q-Tip answered it in less than a minute.
So if y’all think this dude Mazzi is some kinda genius and he’s experiment had ground breaking results then thats a reflection of your IQ.
As for the scarf and whatever muslim clothing, i know he’s mad coz everyone is wearing them things and ain’t muslim but the truth is it aint that serious to a lot of people if it complements your gear rock it.
I dnt see why you’ve gotta be muslim or know the history. It’s a phase that will come to pass just like the BadBoy shiny suites era.
Plus the internet blogger stereotype is so stupid, I know alot of those bloggers are people who research on beef and the basis of it thats why they ended up on the damn blog. Plus you get a lot of people from across the globe who want to find out whats goin on wit they artists.
So to hell with lesson A & B I didn’t learn anything I didnt already know.

Without pauzzze am gonna keep it simple so you can understand.
“Different strokes for different folks” means people are entitled to seek whatever caters to their individual tastes.
Everybody knows that beef in hip-hop generates the most amount of interest, people like him with mediocre rap don’t get the time of day because their music is stale, uninspiring, boring, dry, gimmick, stereotypical nonesense.
Lil Wayne is hot right now, not because of beef, but because of his music. Papoose generated a buzz in the streets because of his music. Therefore the whole experiment is in-accurate and inconclusive.
As for me being a muthafucka, sure u’r right am a “BAD MUTHAFUCKA” How’s your mom’s b? LOL! Am done with this topic.

Dopeboy,
The way u feel about his music is on u…but u should research his work before u yap! Just like u research ur beloved Wayne before u open ur trap
U just don’t get it! U’s a fool for real
He put mad artists at the end so people CAN look at some other shit that might “cater” to they taste if it ain’t him!
I know u ain’t that stupid…or maybe u are
What a fuckboy!
Anotha screen thug! lol

This guy Mazzi’s a clown. Can’t rap, straight wack.
After reading this article, I listened to every song of the kidz and jay electronica (on their websites), and they are hot. Who gives a fuck if they wear a fucking scarf. Walk down broadway by prince, you’ll see a million scarves.
Mazzi should go kill himself
