UP CLOSE & PERSONAL – JOE BUDDEN from Executive Nick on Vimeo.
Directed & Interviewed by : Executive Nick
Edited by : Frederick Orozco
Filmed Exclusively at Fight Klub Studios
My homie Executive Nick, who did the Maino Up Close and Personal series, is back with the always outspoken Joe Budden and a new series, debuting on missinfo.tv.
In this first episode, Joe speaks on “rival emcees,” and actually listens to Method Man and Busta Rhymes’ comments from a few weeks ago….Then Joey warns of a lyrical reaction that he has in the stash….
“I have a response to him, but my response gets under peoples skin…when I talk it bothers people, and I have a response, that if I said, he would really wanna put hands on me.”
Joe Budden Up Close and Personal Part 2 coming soon….

joe budden is my nikka
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Can’t we all just get along? lol
WOW.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:07 pm
i know that was a good interview because it pissed me off that part 2 wasn’t there. thats like having to wait a week to see fred choke ness out on the old making the band lol
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Regarding Budden’s statements. I’m from an era where any emcee worth his salt thought he was the greatest emcee on Earth and no one could fuck with them so I have NO problem with his statements. I DO have an issue with him not knowing about the myriad of accomplishments of the legendary Cowboy or not knowing that Melle Mel can still spit a lil’ somethin’.
That aside, me and Meth should’ve battled this shit out a while back already. As for Busta’s comments…I still don’t get it. If Joey had conceded to another emcee I would’ve been like “What the fuck is wrong with him?”.
This corporate bullshit is skewing the view of basic/core Hip Hop stuff. Let these dudes battle and SEE the result. Otherwise why comment?
One.

INTERNET SOLDIERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Interesting is the best word I can come up with at this point… I can say that I agree with his opinion on what the true rapper’s mindset should be, and I applaud his boldness, but I am more interested in hearing him back this up lyrically.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Why are his lips so shiny? [||]
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
lol
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 pm
lol @ the reeeeal dramatic music in the background. i dont know nothing about nothing, but this seems wrong to me. what has Joe budden done for the game relative to Meth and Bus?
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Joe Budden yet again generates publicity from bullshit he set in motion. Wow. Who could have seen that coming?
*yawns* *rolls eyes*
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I really can’t knock anything he had to say. These so-called legendary rappers need to get off that high horse. Cats are really worried about that image. If this was 10 yrs. ago they would’ve tried to tear Joey apart lyrically. Now cats is just trying to stay relevant and they don’t need nobody slayin them lyrically for all the world wide web to see. The little career they have would be finished ala Ja Rule.
I’m not sayin these guys can’t spit anymore, Ja included, but in the eye of today’s buying public they’re already finished.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Why they playin the scary music in the background? We supposed to be scared of Buttens? And the niggas lip gloss is poppin harder than Lil Mama. It impossible to take a nigga wearin’ lip gloss serious.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:24 pm
how u gonna wanna be a rapper with no mass appeal?
joe hasn’t really said anything..
he’s saying he has an opinion…
but so does trevor… and just cause his
opinion is geared toward disregarding his..
him having one just doesn’t cut it.. ..cause
when it’s all said and done.. he can’t back
it up.. just cause he hasn’t… his catalog
against his catalog?? no contest…
he can say.. in the future that he is gonna
back it up… through third party measure(mass appeal) but until then.. he hasn’t been smacked by
reality.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Without dipset joe is actually the most entertaining thing out.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Ain’t mad at it!
I think Joe totally got it twisted as far as what this whole thing stemmed from (the Vibe list). I think his concept of what it was about was way off. And the whole “MJB, Wu, and Redman carried this nigga” type comments were crazy.
BUT, if it comes down to it, I think it’s funny how people are actin’ like homie’s wrong for sayin’ he could top somebody on some rap shit. No rapper that really takes his shit serious should go in the booth or anywhere NOT hoping/aspiring to be better than whomever he’s compared to. I know SOME rappers don’t care about that, but those who do should never be on some “well no, he’s better than me” shit. WTF kinda rap world do we live in when a dude can’t feel that he’s better than another?
That part about “the bench” was brutal but true… a lotta niggas are gonna be HURT behind that one. HURT. Including Meth and Red. But they know he’s right.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Joe budden is right, This nigga Joe was only talking one Thing, he was trynna put the point that We all rappers and we all rap.And the next Day Method Man Was on the radio saying this and that, Same with Busta, These Hoe ass Niggaz talking about stop the violence and all, but the first thing they do when they get called is SMACK THE NIgga..
Busta Who u gonna smack? You 50, YOu got Jewlery like a lil Kid, Your album has had 70% Drop and Its Called Back on My Bullshit, What kinda Kiddie shit is that?
Joe is right, Method is trash, these days, and this aint got nothing to do with his Iconic status.
Same with Game, when Game said about Jay Z, his iconic status has nothing to do with todays battle,i put that aside when i go to battle the nigga…
Thats why Joe said that Me and Game are on the same Bipolar shit, coz What your Iamge Is, Has Nothing to Do with Battle and Saying your Opinion.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:40 pm
smh @ staring at that man’s lips
I’m just wondering if the interview would have the same effect with a club record in the background
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Hahah Joe is crazy, Method Man Saying trynna put the door in Def Jams shit, lol, this nigga is Dropping on Koch and gonna get Ten times as Much as Redman and Method Man Got from selling 60 000 on Major Label that Takes Huge Cuts, Than you split in in 2, shit, i cant make a mixtape tomorrow and sell 500 copies and make more Money than these niggaz…
Joe is right,he’s confident in his raps and he couldnt give a fuck less what ya niggaz did in 90’s. its 2009 and Its time to rip the Heads of niggaz lyrically.
and if Niggaz Like Busta who aint done shit to Justify Israel Ramirez Death wanna talk smacking, Thats Like Using a Gun in a Fight…This is a rap Battle, why u wanna bring Violence in this shit when Ya bitch ass didnt do shit coz ya Man Yayo shot up ur friend and u got hoe scared.
better start running from Big Truck bitch ass nigga
Ya album sold 50 000 in 2 weeks? With 5 singles.
Shut ya old ass up
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:49 pm
The thing that gets me is that these dudes are so shocked at the comments that Joe made like he wasn’t entitled to his opinion. Raekwon, Busta, Meth, and whoever talking like what Joe is saying is preposterous. If it’s so far from the truth why has none of these dudes went at him lyrically. Seriously Raekwon was talking nutzo about Joe so why he aint spti no bars? Why mad sound scared on the radio? First he was talking about being on a song with him. This is why these old dudes is falling off. They are too scared to put their skills up against anyone. They rest on their laurels. Imagine if Jordan wouldn’t have guarded Iverson in that game or Kobe in the All star game. They got some moves off on MJ but his team won both games. His legacy is not tarnished by any of that. Man up my dudes.
June 3rd, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I think Busta needs to be more concerned about Big Truck and coming back to Uniondale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkZxjopcGro
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:09 pm
If he loves rapping so much, why doesn’t he STFU for a minute and start rapping? This dude talks way to much.
further, he says he “don’t care about what anyone thinks.” Well why is he always crying for attention and doing/saying anything he can to get noticed?
Shit, I like his raps, but his talking is ruining it for me.
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Why are rappers so sensitive? Isn’t what they do, usually thought of as a “competitive sport”.
So Joey basically said to Meth “Me and you, let’s go one on one (Pause, pause, pause, etc…) and I will chop your head off”
Now if you ever attempted this in the playground, their are usually two responses:
1st. The opponent accepts your challenge because they are confident that they can beat you. So may the best man win.
or
2nd. The opponent knows deep down inside they “CANNOT WIN, or doubt their abilities/skills, so pride kicks in and they start screaming to anyone around “I’M GOING TO F**K THIS DUDE UP,IMA DO THIS WHEN I SEE YOU,BLAHBLAHBLAH”
The sucka’s way out.
At the end of the day, any young bull will gladly explain the one rule that will never change in life, to the old heads:
“If your game is weak, GTF off the court”
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:25 pm
doesnt Meth n Joe look like relatives?? enough of the bs talking lets put on wax fellas
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:32 pm
LOL.
The “mood music” was killing me.
Is this Psycho or Something?
What makes Buddens interesting (and dangerous) is his intelligence. He almost seems like the lyrical version of the Joker.
There’s a weird logic to what he expresses.
June 3rd, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Method misunderstood wat Joe originally said, he has love for this dude, but method starts talkin shit out the ass, and gets busta to talk like dat too, now thats tru disrespect
June 4th, 2009 at 12:07 am
I watched this video several times to really get a perspective from Joe and his logic. I think what draws me into his realm of music has to be his complexity. I think that him being the average Joe signifies anything but average which is the great irony.
Hence the under dog story will always draw me. Idealistically i see what Joe is saying. Why shouldn’t he feel like hes the best in the world to some has beens’? I dont think Joe is crazy at all even if he differs. I think hes opinionated and the voice of plenty of people that feel the same way.
where joe lacks and his foot always tends to be in his mouth. Is his choice of words. I think he should just speak from his heart and stop looking at what hes about to say strategically. 9 out of 10 times your heart wont lie.
side bar: joe mood muzik mixtapes make meth and redman blackout 1 and 2 look like dr sues books lol
June 4th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I agree with Joe.
Free country, speak your mind. This is music.
You don’t see country dudes like I can’t even name one but you don’t see them going at each other like I’m the best country singer even if they believe they are.
What you do see is them going out there and getting that money.
This isn’t about catalog vs catalog either, thats out of context.
Ask any rapper they will say they the hottest or best out or the king or something. Its what they do. Are folks so juvenile minded that they trippin like really trippin off what another dude says?
Bring on Part 2.
June 4th, 2009 at 12:25 am
smh @ the “dateline to catch a predator” music hovering in the background to make the interview sound dramatic
June 4th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Joe is dat nikka but why he look like he was drinking cooking oil
June 4th, 2009 at 12:57 am
the best thing about this video is the background music
June 4th, 2009 at 1:07 am
I can’t wait to read that somebody smacked the shit out of his ass. Joe is a clown. if anything he’s fucking Slaughter House name up w/ these petti beefs. They should drop his ass, even if he came up w/the idea…If he really wanted to dis Meth, he should have put it in a song first. STOP TALKING!
cLOWN…
June 4th, 2009 at 1:25 am
Man that Padded Room is some bull ish. Dude raps with that whiny flow, shit is like sandpaper to my ears. Sure Method Man’s schtick is soundin kinda tired but in terms of style Method Man winds hands down anyday. Record sales aint got nothin to do wit it anyhow.
June 4th, 2009 at 1:34 am
rofl @ #11
“Lip Gloss poppin harder then Lil Mama”
I think it was to build suspense…not fear, suspense and fear are two different things you know? I liked the interview. I wonder what that ISH was he was alluding to about Busta Rhymes? Hmmmm
Could it be this…

June 4th, 2009 at 1:41 am
@ #8
I agree…so dont take this the wrong way, but thats his exact point. Busta Rhymes and Method Man have done more in their time when it was actually possible to do things and the level of the game was different.
But are they LYRICALLY better rappers than him? Can the out rap Joe Budden TODAY and/or in their prime…
He doesnt think so. And just cause they accomplished more and have bigger names doesnt mean they are better rappers.
MC Hammer accomplished a lot more than Nas and a lot of your other favorite rappers, but is he greater? No! And because of his misshaps people dont even respect him. I bet if Nas splurged and went bankrupt he wouldnt be on anyones list either. But any who..
(Oh and Puh Lease dont come at me saying Busta and Method Man are 100 times better than Joe Budden regardless. Im not saying their not. Never heard enough Joe Budden to past that judgement. Im just sayin…)
-MzBrittanyLUV
June 4th, 2009 at 2:01 am
this interview made me think how i respect some of the same things in Budden that i do in 2Pac.
Truth be told though, If they rap it out, I’ll take M-E-T-H-O-D MAAAAN over Budden for one verse allll dayy!! $100 where my mouth is!
I got beats
June 4th, 2009 at 2:19 am
lol c’mon joey, ur not stupid.. you know good and well theres a difference between saying ur the best, and saying “im better than method man”.. you can say whatever you want, ur entitled.. but dont act all puzzled when mef and people who respect mef, consider that disrespectful, and wanna go in ur mouth for it..
i hate when people go out their way to talk reckless, then when they get a heated response, they wanna play the “why you wanna take this to violence? im just talkin bout music!!” card..
if ur entitled to say ur opinion for the world to hear, then so is busta and mef.. and if their opinion happens to be you should get smacked in the mouth, then it is what it is.. free spech is a mother, aint it??
June 4th, 2009 at 2:20 am
Once again Joe is seeking attention. He knew what was going to happen when he said it and thats kool.. its his opinion. But why is this the attention that he only can get? He really does not have a thriving rap career and the only time that people really mention his name is when it is beef related. Seems to me he could and should be more than that, or atleast want to. But maybe he has accepted the fact that his rap career has probably gone as far as it can.
June 4th, 2009 at 2:51 am
i like how diz shit is so dramatized u actualy start 2 fink its relevant(not)..
June 4th, 2009 at 3:00 am
Im not understanding where and how this all started…Im sayin Meth is a Rapper,Busta & Buddens…Rappers
The Rap game….Word play that always had an element of “War” or “Battling” way back before The “Bridge is Over” & “South Bronx” records..
So wtf is the issue here?
I am a fan of Meth & Buddens….So where did the part where it should get “Physical” come into play?
I think buddens in right..ANYONE os entitled to there own opinion…The joy of life if u dont like what someone else says etc u can turn a cheek and keep it movin!
So why would busta make a threat? Because method been in the game for a long time? Huh??? Any rapper can go at KRS and that dude will defend himself in true pioneer rapper fashion! so why cant these other rappers conduct themselves as such?
Man period point blank i dont fault Joe Budden for anything here…Do you homie u put in enough years etc…to earn that right!
June 4th, 2009 at 3:06 am
The ball-sack / ass-crack of Hip Hop speaks again.
June 4th, 2009 at 3:41 am
You got to luv Joey lol He cuts to the chase and brings the real exposes people without doing much. lol Any rapper worth his soul or anyone considered great has had a battle or two. Pac, biggie, Jay-z, Nas, 50, LL Cool J, Em etc… Joe has proved he can back his talk. meth and them r just scared lol pic the mic up bitch ass niggaz
June 4th, 2009 at 3:46 am
he did call out Method Man out of a list of 64 rappers
Joey is so fake with this talkin about he’s nuts.
talkin talkin talkin talkin… make good music instead.
June 4th, 2009 at 4:34 am
Is he wearing Lip Smackers or something? Chile…
June 4th, 2009 at 4:36 am
I think Joe is dead on. First and foremost, in a battle, he would devour Meth. His initial comments on the radio were never meant in an ill manner towards Meth but pride skewed it that way.
However.
Joe has no right to disrespect a legend like that. Yes, his 16 would smash Meth’s 16, but its about respecting people who laid out the ground work before your came along. You would never see any rapper worth a damn disrespect Easy-E, or Ice T, even though those 2 arent lyrically dope, but its out of respect. Shit, yes Joe you have the right to have your own opinion, but having that opinion will cause you to be labeled as an asshole. Im a fan of you, but this whole thing makes you an asshole.
June 4th, 2009 at 4:39 am
@ Tony, who said “If he loves rapping so much, why doesn’t he STFU for a minute and start rapping? This dude talks way to much.”
2 Things:
1) Budden just spent the last half of May recording the Slaughterhouse album
2) At the very exact moment you posted that comment, you could’ve gone to http://www.blogtv.com/people/joebuddentv and seen the nigga in the studio LIVE recording for his second (third including SH) album to drop this year.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:02 am
they need to settle it like so called emcees do and just rap it out. done.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:34 am
BATTLE > BEEF
”RAP GAME” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Y’all
June 4th, 2009 at 5:49 am
joey let it go before someone from the WU gives you a buck 50
June 4th, 2009 at 7:41 am
I would like to speak from watching Joe Buddens career from: Pump It Up(which you all know was the hit of the summer for the year) all the way up to now… time after time Joe Budden keeps letting us hear his talent on the mic, This man is so underated that it should be a crime, if everyone could just look over some of his bullshit singles, and listen to the first cd Mood Muzik 1,2,3, especially 2 lol he changed the mix tape game. This nica killed g unit by his damn self when he was with clue and them, but the hype on 50 career wouldn’t let that show, ransom… well that beef spoke for it’s self, and method man, well I’m not takin shit away from Meth cause he is without a shadow of a doubt a legend, but Joey is one of the greats too, but if they were to go mic to mic battle, Joey would win no contest seriously. I heard how he dissed 50, Jay(even though he was ignorant he still went supa hard at’em), Ransom his lyrics are amazing. AND I’M NOT ON HIS DICK I’M ON SILKY (NO HOMO) ON THAT SHIT. I JUST KNOW HIP HOP VERY WELL
June 4th, 2009 at 8:22 am
the only thing crazy about budden is that fucked up shape up he has. Come on u jus a rapper. There is no up roar. Meth probably dont even care no more.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:24 am
p.s, budden said he would chop meths head off, how is that different to busta sayin he should get slapped?
June 4th, 2009 at 8:44 am
sounds like Nine Inch Nails music on the backgroud.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:07 am
Wow, after watching this Joe appears to be the bigger man. He recognizes what type of profession he is in. It’s like a MMA fighter, you have to be the best and believe your the best if you want to stay on top. Constantly training (battling other emcees, writing, collaborating, etc.)
From Meths perspective he see’s rapping as his bread & butter as a hustler, “take this away from me and how am I going to feed my seeds…” Instead of Meth saying, I need to get my skills up to par and knock Joe off his square… Meth showed and proved with this incident that he is a RAP STAR and his Emcee days are over.
Its funny cause Meth was on Jaun Epstein talking about how he was cool with BIG and didn’t understand why Nas, Rae and Ghost had beef with him. Years later he want to smack dudes in the face ’cause Joe told him to “Protect Ya Kneck!”
June 4th, 2009 at 9:19 am
I agree with Joe where in the rap rule book does it say another rapper can’t have an opinion about another rapper. I mean when I heard about this I swore this would be a rap battle worth listening to becauase I swear these two guys are sick when it comes to lyrics. But instead we are getting a “as the world turns” BS. As for Busta he just jumped in to get the people looking at him he should get slapped for speaking on something that doesn’t have anything to do with him even if Meth is is boy.
You know who won this round VIBE!!! I mean think about it if you didn’t read the vibe brackets before after all this you will just to see whats all the ruckus about which generates more sales for Vibe. I bet Vibe execs are like “Yes keep talking about it cuz the more they talk the more pub we are getting and we def need pub before we shut down” I would be surprised if Vibe does a “Best summer song list” just to get more Artist to talk.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:21 am
you gotta respect that dude!
he speaks the truth!
June 4th, 2009 at 9:22 am
The only “flaw” I see in Joe’s “I’m entitled to my opinion” view is that if he didn’t care about public views and having folk co-sign him then why record and post everything online.Yes you can have your opinion but once you throw that opinion out to the public and repeatedly do so it’s more then just merely your opinion.
It’s like 50 said, “If you really were making music strictly for yourself you’d never release it and keep it in your house. You put it out there because you want a response/reaction “
June 4th, 2009 at 9:28 am
INFO…PLEASE…ALL I ASK 4 IS DAT U DONT DROP PART 2 TWO MONTHS FROM NOW LIKE U WAS DOING WITH DA CAM’RON INTERVIEW…..
THANK U CHULA… 😉
June 4th, 2009 at 9:40 am
point blank ya haters joe budden is dead nice like he said he dont want to join the majors so why he need attention he dont make music for punks and dick riders people forget the internet is where rappers have a new outlet to stay irrelevant so why not use it and talk your shit everybody else is quiet why face it too many of these old heads are benched not even given the opportunity to make a jump shot its time for these old school dudes to give it up and support up and coming rappers busta rhymes garbage method man his time is over too theres no more wu
June 4th, 2009 at 11:11 am
First off, Joe Budden is telling it like it is. He has the right to his opinion everyday, all day. Second, these dudes are talking real reckless about getting violent to him. Why? If your mic game is still so supreme, take it to the lab!
If you have a beef with what the man said and feel a way about it, take it to the lab!
If you’re not going to take it to the lab, then you, as a rapper, should shut up! Busta did a track with the man when he first came out, one of his most well known tracks, though far from his best track, yet he can talk about laying hands on the man like they have no relationship at all?
I am a rapper, and I know I don’t just get on tracks with cats just because. That’s a sad thing to see from Busta. You can feel a way about the man’s comments, but to interject yourself into the middle with talk of violence is just bad business, imo.
And just to quote a truly great Rapper.
“Sensitive thugs, You all need hugs!”
June 4th, 2009 at 11:30 am
the only thing crazy about budden is that f’d up shape up.
June 4th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Are we seeing a pattern here??!!! Ransom, that other dude who “hit and ran” from prod, and now meth and busta all these dudes would rather smack and fight Budden than to battle the dude. Atleast Jay Z decided not to say a word but come on this is some puck shit. These dudes swear they are so great why not battle it out?? Busta had no problem getting on a track with 50 & EM to rip JA Rule! It is obvious Joe Budden lyrically has been one of the most feared MCs since the day he came out.
June 4th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
btw does budden have lip gloss on???
June 4th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Why aren’t there any songs ?? This rap today is WWE material…..I am Mef fan and I think line for line ibn a battle Joe would win…but he has a d*&khead personality so anything he says sounds suspect….Every emcee should think they’re the best or no one else will….But Joe it’s something about the dude that makes you don’t like him……If it’s all that put it on wax !!!! PS Whats up with the shiny lips ???
June 4th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
First off: Joe my dude you need a new barber or the barber that gave you that shape up should be shot!!!!
Second is why the fuck you wearing lip gloss?????
I like Joe, but on some real shit he started talkin greasy first “I’ll rip Meth’s head off”…Now it’s kinda like he’s playing the sympathy card… We all know that it was your opinion, it’s the part bout you taking off his head that I’m pretty sure bothered everyone….
So if Joe ment no harm wit what was said bout that then I’m sure Busta ment no harm wit “dude should get smacked”
Ya all grown ass men, I like all parties included in this mess…. Joe, Busta, Meth, Red…….
Hope ya can get passed this bullshit….
And Joe drop that Slaughter House Album Already…..I need to hear Joel Ortiz!!!!!! Homeboy is sick wit his rap game!!!!!!
June 4th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
you know what I don’t get about rap these days, that evryone but the rappers can voice their opinions. How many times do us regular niggas sit in our living rooms debating/arguing about who’s better, who would beat who, but when any rapper does it, even when said in a sportsmanship lever its wrong. Jadakiss hassaid that he’s the best while jay-a claimed the title, did anyone make a fuzz about jada claiming that? No, but when u put aname to that then its a problem. Hip hop is like a sport, you haeto prove your skill constantly, especially when you’re a star

I just ate some john motherfuckin blaze ass curry chicken and rice and peas, with salad and macaroni and cheese with a free grape juice from golden Krust for 5.75 lunch special. I feel so full. that shit was soooo poppin!
I started burpin curry and laughin when I first started hearin Joe Budden talkin about he’s crazy…he’s really crazy. What Joe hit a couple of squirrels with a sling shot when he was away at boarding school? Or, he pulled a couple of fire alarms? He be slappin old people at the bus stop? or snatchin away walking sticks from blind people? LOL
M.C.’s should think they are the best( so he right there) regardless. That’s the competetive spirit in hip hop. If that nigga dissed somebody like freddy fox, he’d be hurt by now. Leave the old school alone.
I feel on the mic them niggas would eat him! Especially Reggie Noble!
They way he’s talkin and sounding borderline violent kinda sorta, them niggas gonna end up fuckin him up! Or, their friends will end up fuckin him up!
Meth on the bench, but Meth got like 3 movies he’s doin’ rite now. So it’s not like the brother aint doin shit, but criticizing other m.c.’s. What else is joe doin? Plus the Blackout two is out now, what joe got out?

Plus the Blackout two is out now, what joe got out???
I put it again cause it told me that my comment was failed to be added:)

Joey makes a good point when he contradicts Meth’s statement about him only doing this because Blackout 2 is coming out. Joe has nothing to promote right now so it’s really not doing anything for him. It was just a statement he made. As far as Busta’s involvement, didn’t Joe have a line praising Busta in “Who” saying with all his material it’s messed up the Busta isn’t mentioned with the G.O.A.T. If anything I think it was Busta who came along and tried to get involved to get his album to sell a little more…

Things to consider:
1. Method Man is a legend, and has done WAY MORE for the rap game than Budden will ever do unless Budden steps up. Method Man actually pushed the boundaries of emceeing and songwriting further. What the hell has Budden done in comparison?
2. Legends fall off. Nobody stays hot forever. I know people who could battle Rakim right now and win. And the bottom line is, “so what?” Ra’s past his prime. That’s like kicking an old man (who used to be a samurai) down and saying: “hah! I can beat you.” Any man who is willing to do that is a serious lame.
3. Method Man and other legends don’t want to admit that they have fallen off. Which is unfortunate. I understand they gotta eat/feed fam but if the music business was straight (and artists respected their own finances), artists wouldn’t have to be record slaves for life. They would be able to move onto other arenas of life when the creative well dries up. Meth could be an A&R, or even *gasp* go back to school and learn some kinda profession, then use his years of recording know-how to go into the business side of music.
4. Artists now should be focusing on advancing the artistry of the rap game, not on petty beefs like Budden. Budden may think he’s the best rapper alive, but he needs to face reality. Besides, it’s not him who will judge it, it’s fans of hip hop. And Budden is NOWHERE CLOSE to being the greatest rapper alive. FACT. So instead of talking greasy, dude should hone his craft and put out legendary material, instead of talking shit all the time. I want Budden to release a highly anticipated and critically acclaimed album before he talks shit. You can’t talk shit about guys like Red/Meth/Busta who have done this and then be surprised why they think you’re a lame.
Like Pun said, you aint even in their clasa.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
I hope Joe Budden and other rappers read these comments thoroughly. But I’m guessing that won’t happen.
June 5th, 2009 at 12:21 am
@Tochi Says:
You’re points are wrong. Actually, most of the points everyone making are wrong. Rappers don’t get “past their prime”, the game evolves and they don’t evolve with it.
If Rakim wrote shit right now and traveled back in time and released it, we would be calling that shit a “classic”.
Method Man debuted during an era in hip hop when his type of music (same type of hip hop that Budden does) could get radio play and run on TV. If “All I Need” was shopped to radio stations today, no one would play it, but if Joe Budden’s “Exxxes” was shopped to radio back in the mid 90s, it would have been considered a classic to this day.
Your 4th point doesn’t make any since AT ALL and I question if you’ve even actually listened to a Budden project. Your comments sound like you judge a rapper’s talent by how famous they are because you’re comment about “legendary material” is a relative term.
Meth, Reds and Busta’s work is “legendary” because of the era that they came up in and i would go as far as saying that Meth, Red OR Busta have never actually released a “legendary” album. Muddy Waters was good, but not great, Busta’s albums are always single heavy with sucky songs and besides Tical, what has Meth actually done outside of Wu?
I’ve been a Meth fan for 16 years, but I know that his simple one syllable rhyme schemes compared to Joe’s dexterity is a no contest. I’m basing this off of THEY’RE TALENT AND NOT THEIR “LEGENDARY STATUS” AND THAT IS WHAT JOE WAS BASING IT OFF OF. I don’t know WHAT is so hard for you guys to get about that.
BTW, Method Man doesn’t have to be an A&R, if you can still spit, you can spit. He sounds NO different in 09 than he did in the early to mid 90s outside of the production, but people are blinded by this farce of “rappers not being in their prime”. Just my opinions.
June 5th, 2009 at 2:36 am
There’s alot of people on here speaking on Joe Budden and clearly have never heard his music. Someone said ‘Why doesn’t he put out Classics??’ Listen to Mood Music 2. And as far as his comments, If Joe Budden and Method Man went to Rucker Park today and battled, Joe Budden will decisively win. That goes for Redman and old-ass Melly Mel. (can Melly Mel rap TODAY??? No.) I have no problem with Joe Budden voicing his opinion. I do have a problem with Method Man avoiding the battle. If you still got it, let’s go 3 rounds with your hottest 16’s. That will settle it.
BTW, I was a 90’s baby. I grew up on Method Man, I have all 6 of his albums (last 2 were trash) but there comes a time when another star will come along and eventually shine brighter than your own. Everyone defending Method Man are defending his place in Hip Hop’s HOF, and not his present-day skills.
June 5th, 2009 at 2:45 am
I laughed at the part where Joe made fun of Busta for saying “he mightah needed to get smacked for that”… Busta 35+ years old, he should talk better than that. Damn, Busta. I guess some people talk dumb to sound cool.
June 5th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Wow @at you lame ass niggaz that clowning on Joey. This nigga is one of the realest, most talented dudes out. Method man has his shine, his days are over. If yall think he’s so hot, then why the fuck dont he battle joe? Joe says he’s nice on the mic and he’s willing to back it up, so why dont these old ass rappers like method man and busta rhymes come out the old people’s home and get on stage and battle the nigga?? You know why they wont do it? Cause they’re old and washed the fuck up. Get over it lmao.

Industry,
You mention that my arguments are flawed yet you don’t even explain yourself, then proceed to make some ridiculous statements.
A) According to you, a classic record is defined by the time period it dropped, not by the fact that it’s actually a timeless record that people still love to hear? you gave the flawed example with Rakim.
Industry, do you seriously believe that “Exxes” is comparable to “All I Need?”, the Puffy and especially the RZA version? Musically, lyrically and all around illness? You must be smoking crack, fam.
Method Man’s verse from Shadowboxin still gives n*ggas chills. AROUND THE WORLD. and what does Joey have in comparison? yeah, I thought so.
B) According to you, ‘legends’ as we consider them now are only legends because they debuted at some legendary influential time during the 90s.
This doesn’t even make sense. A legend becomes one because of the IMPACT he/she brings to the game. A legend advances the art of hip hop or culture in a way that wasn’t around before. They push the boundaries of emceeing, beatmaking, djing, bboying, etc.
Do you know how many rappers came out in the 90s that we don’t check for anymore or care about? TONS. And for the most part, that’s because they were kinda run of the mill compared to the really talented guys.
C) According to you, rappers don’t age and their voices don’t change. They can literally sound exactly the same as when they debuted, despite the fact that the human body actually ages.
Method Man sounds no different now than in the 90s –> seriously? LMAO. Rappers’ voices change, especially if substances and shit are involved. Look at how Prodigy sounded on Infamous compared to now. He even talked about it on one point, how his voice had a higher pitch.
I guess what i’m trying to say is that your points don’t make any sense, and they seem to come from someone who deeply appreciates Joe Budden. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but don’t come at me with skewed logic and expect that I’ll be convinced.
oh… and dont speak blasphemy on rappers who have actually put out incredible catalogue, and then act like their shit didn’t change the game. Not only is it disrespectful, but it smells of someone who doesn’t really know or appreciate their shit to begin with.
June 5th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Read all of your comments and I noticed that you just didn’t “get it”. I’m not saying that an “era” makes you a Legend, I’m saying that they are legends because they thrived in an era that ALLOWED their type of music to thrive and get the radio play that bandwagon ass people can be trained to like it.
And yeah, if All I Need came out right now, the masses wouldn’t have fucked with it even though its dope JUST LIKE 99% OF ALL THE OTHER MATERIAL OUT THERE THAT IS DOPE THAT DOESN’T GET ANY PLAY. Lets stop pretending as though the difference between guys like Royce, Joe etc and guys like Busta, Red, Meth and any other 90s rapper is “talent”. It isn’t in most cases, its the era in which they’re putting the music out in that have the MOST brunt on ANYTHING so when you try to bring up “legendary music”, it doesn’t make any sense at ALL in this discussion.
If LL, Red, Meth, DMX and Canibus dropped 4321 TODAY, do you think that song would get ANY FUCKIN PLAY AT ALL?!?! NO!!! Does that mean that it isn’t a classic song? No. Thats the position that guys like Budden find themselves in right now and thats why you keep hearing them say “I’m in the wrong era”…
And I NEVER SAID that Exxxes was “better”, I said that Joe’s song about a physical representation of his depression as a woman (in case you didn’t know that, thats what the female is in that song) would have been a classic song. If All I Need AND Exxxes debuted during the same era, they BOTH would be “classic” material. Hell, If Joe Budden’s “Secrets” came out during that time, IT would be a classic so that where I disagree with your “make classic material” comment. Your gauge of whats something classic compared to the 90s is flawed from the get go because of the eras involved.
You have the upper hand in this argument because you live in a bandwagon world of what is and I’m coming from a stand point of WHY IT IS.
Method Man’s “Shadowboxing” verse is good, but I HATE when people put it on a pedestal. If you had NEVER heard of Method Man and he dropped today with that same verse, I thought that you would be influenced to say that it “gives you chills” lmao
BTW, I’m not talking about how a rapper sounds LMAO, I’m talking about lyrical ability. Prodigy just fell off because he STOPPED TRYING, but Havoc GOT BETTER! So did Havoc get better when he was “past his prime”? THATS what I mean. I think Rakim is better LYRICALLY NOW than he was THEN, but people are too blinded to see it.
If Rakim had dropped on Aftermath, he would still be selling and we wouldn’t be having this discussion about him being “past his prime”.

Industry,
Why are you bringing up radio play? It’s an almost irrelevant argument.
Bottom line: Meth/Red/Busta are legends because they released legendary material that still holds up on a musical level. ITS NOT ONLY BECAUSE THEY GOT SERIOUS AIRPLAY. So stop bringing up radio like that was the major factor that made them legends.
Why do you think Meth/Red/Bus can tour around the world? Do you really think fans were listening to North American radio and being ‘brainwashed’ or bandwagoned? Half the time, people were seeing music videos or hearing through word of mouth that so-and-so was nice, and then they got into the artist.
Personally, I lived abroad during the 90s. I know what it was like to listen to artists without even knowing what they looked like. I bought Redman’s “Docs Da Name” without even knowing who the hell he was, and I found that I loved “I’ll Bee Dat” as well as his other stuff on there. A friend of mine at the time recommended Mase to me when I didn’t even know who BIG or Puffy was.
Good music stands the test of time. PERIOD. Artists like Joe Budden should stop bitching and start producing it. Budden isn’t overlooked or anything; he just makes boring ass music. You fans get tunnel vision and just look at the lines he spits. Which isn’t bad in itself, but to everyone else, the song as a whole is simply lacking. Which explains his lack of success even among hip hop fans. I know a lot of hip hop heads who simply don’t like joe Budden’s music or wont go out of their way to listen to it. Budden needs to learn how to craft SONGS instead of being MR PUNCHLINE, something that Meth/Red/Bus understood way back then and are now reaping the fruits of that labor.
Shadowboxin is a perfect example. That’s a SONG. You can’t seperate Mef’s verse from the illness of RZA’s beat – the two of them just go perfect. When Method started spitting, it just made sense. Is it the most lyrical verse ever? Hell no. But is it memorable as f*ck? ABSOLUTELY. Mef’s flow and vocals are IMPECCABLE and the rhymes are extremely simple and witty (usually the best kind, instead of punchliney, unfocused and stale).
You can’t beat simple yet profoundly intelligent and poetic lyrics. Ask Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, James Brown, etc.
Song craftmanship is something that newer emcees are having such a difficult time with. Then they complain that we don’t give them the time of day, when they haven’t taken the time to learn their craft.
could Joe Budden beat Mef in a freestyle battle? Maybe. But do I care? Not really. Especially after seeing what Saigon did to him.
June 5th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Tochi, I was enjoying the discussion between you and industry until i came across a disturbing admission. You found out about Mase before Puff and Big!?!?! I’m sorry, but it’s hard for me to take anything you said seriously after that one.
June 5th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
BlacHaze:
I don’t see why that’s so hard to believe. I already said I lived abroad. It’s not like rappers are on TV all the time in the Middle East.
It just so happened that a new friend of mine had just come back from the U.S. and mentioned that he was listening to some dude named Mase who had just come out with Harlem World. This was like ’97. and I said, aight, lemme hear.
It’s not about who you discover first in rap – it’s about where you go from there. Whether or not you do your homework and find out what the really good shit is.
