The inaugural YouTube Music Awards kicked off on Sunday night at New York City’s Pier 36. Some of music’s biggest stars and upcoming new faces appeared at the first-ever event, curated by director Spike Jonze. Hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman and musician Reggie Watts, the show featured performances from Lady Gaga, Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, M.I.A., Arcade Fire, and more.

Eminem made history, becoming the first “Artist of the Year” winner. Moments after the victory, Marshall Mathers gave the first live performance of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 cut “Rap God.” The new album arrives in-stores on Tuesday.
